ZENITH ELEVATES THE DEFY SKYLINE WITH A HIGH-FREQUENCY TOURBILLON

A new star in the DEFY Skyline constellation is born. The ZENITH Manufacture incorporates a new automatic high-frequency tourbillon calibre into the DEFY Skyline Tourbillon, in two versions in steel and black ceramic.

The tourbillon mechanism has long been associated with the upper echelon of fine watchmaking; a testament to the technical prowess of the manufacture and the skilled watchmakers that bring these mechanical wonders to life. Originally conceived at the end of the 18th century to counteract the effects of gravity on the watch’s precision, ZENITH has given it its own modernistic spin to demonstrate the Manufacture’s unrivaled expertise in high-frequency precision across multiple movement types and functions as well as the edgy design of the DEFY collection – all in an execution suited for daily wear in any situation. Like all El Primero calibres, the DEFY Skyline Tourbillon’s movement operates at a high-frequency rate of 5Hz (36’000 VpH), ensuring optimal chronometric performance with a high resistance to shocks.

Housed in a faceted and highly geometric 41mm case and matching bracelet in either stainless steel or black ceramic, the DEFY Skyline Tourbillon melds the distinctively bold and architectural design of the DEFY Skyline with the mechanical animation of a tourbillon mechanism.

Like the core of a galaxy around which countless constellations are strewn, the central kinetic element of the DEFY Skyline is visible through an aperture on the dial’s lower portion. Fixed to a finely mirror-polished bridge with sharp bevels, the tourbillon cage takes on the shape of an open four-pointed star, with the same futuristic lines as those found in other DEFY references with tourbillon mechanisms. Turning ceaselessly around its own axis, the tourbillon completes one revolution every 60 seconds. The case’s water-resistance of 10ATM (100 metres) further affirms the all-conditions endurance of the piece.

The DEFY Skyline’s signature sunray-patterned metallic dial with an engraved starry sky pattern has been adapted specifically for the DEFY Skyline Tourbillon, to accentuate the high-frequency tourbillon. Either in blue for the steel version or black for the ceramic version, the mosaic of engraved four-pointed stars appear to radiate out of the tourbillon at 6 o’clock, expanding as they reach the outer perimeter of the dial. The luminescent applied markers and hands further add contrast to the dial, with rhodium plated indices for the blue dial and rose gold plated indices for the black dial.

Powering the DEFY Skyline Tourbillon is the new El Primero 3630 automatic high-frequency manufacture calibre, with a power reserve of 60 hours. Mirroring the expansive decoration of the dial-side that emanates from the tourbillon, the côtes de Genève stripes on the bridges are arranged in a sunray pattern that appear to dart out of the tourbillon. The open star-shaped rotor allows for an open view of the contemporary movement architecture.

Like all DEFY Skyline models, the DEFY Skyline Tourbillon comes on a stainless steel or black ceramic bracelet, with a second strap in blue or black rubber with folding clasp supplied that can easily be switched using the case back’s quick strap-change mechanism requiring no tools.

The DEFY Skyline Tourbillon is available at ZENITH physical and online boutiques as well as authorized ZENITH retailers around the world.

HUBLOT SPIRIT OF BIG BANG DEPECHE MODE

Designed in collaboration with Depeche Mode, the new Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode pays tribute to the British band’s latest album and world tour, Memento Mori, vouching to live fully in the present and reflect on the value of time. This concept is symbolised on the watch by a skull motif embellished with an hourglass.

Fourteen years have already passed since Hublot and Depeche Mode announced their first collaboration, dedicated to raising public awareness and funds for several environmental and humanitarian causes. Since then, this partnership has been renewed with each of the British band’s subsequent tours and has raised over USD $2.3 million for the Teenage Cancer Trust and charity:water.

In March 2023, Depeche Mode announced its big comeback with the release of Memento Mori , its 15th studio album, along with a worldwide concert tour. Still in collaboration with the band, which has sold over 100 million albums, Hublot is helping to raise funds and awareness for Conservation Collective, a global charity that unites a network of regional philanthropic foundations working to protect, conserve and restore natura l environments. Thanks to Depeche Mode & Hublot funding, the first round of projects tackling plastic pollution at the grassroots in 2023 supported seven impactful initiatives across seven countries, with three more rounds of funding set to empower even more positive change. The projects aim to turn the tide on plastic by driving locally led waste management, plastic-free and clean-up initiatives.

It was against this backdrop that Hublot and Depeche Mode teamed up again in Berlin, 11 years after their first joint event in the German capital, to release a new limited-edition watch: The Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode. The Spirit of Big Bang’s signature tonneau shape is designed with Hublot’s iconic All Black aesthetic. Created in collaboration with Depeche Mode, the design combines the skull motif—an emblem seen in the video announcing the band’s return—with an hourglass to symbolise the passage of time. The centre of the dial is filled with small black ceramic spheres that symbolically flow back and forth as the wrist moves, conveying the concept of Memento Mori. This Latin phrase, meaning ‘remember you must die’, is intended to prompt reflection on the transience of life. Alongside the dial, the initials DM, the British band’s logo, appear at 6 o’clock. The indices take the form of pyramid-shaped studs, a motif echoed on the black ceramic bezel.

Measuring 42 mm, the barrel-shaped case is made of sand-blasted and polished black ceramic. It houses a self-winding HUB1710_SD calibre movement with a 50-hour power reserve. Each of the Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode comes with two straps, which are easily interchangeable thanks to the patented One Click system. The first is made from recycled materials and Velcro, in line with Conservation Collective’s plastic pollution initiatives. The second, in black rubber, closes with a black titanium folding clasp. It includes the pyramid-shaped studs already featured on the bezel and dial, creating an exceptionally ‘rock’ vibe.

Each of the 100 pieces in this limited edition will come in a special box containing a wonderful surprise: a 10” vinyl single of Depeche Mode’s Wagging Tongue, only available as part of this package, and produced using green energy and recycled PVC!

“Memento Mori encourages us to be more mindful of just how fragile our existence is. This is why joining forces once again with our trusted friends at Hublot makes so much sense. Together, we can raise public awareness of environmental issues and support Conservation Collective in their efforts to protect our planet and life in all its forms” – Martin Gore, Member of Depeche Mode

“For almost 14 years now, Hublot has been working alongside Depeche Mode to protect Humankind and our environment. Memento Mori makes us conscious of the passing of time. This is something that we, as watchmakers, are naturally aware of. This is a serious issue, but one that we approach with joy and energy inspired by the music of Depeche Mode.” – Ricardo Guadalupe, HUBLOT CEO

“We are delighted and hugely grateful to have the support of Hublot and Depeche Mode as we work to turbocharge environmental restoration efforts in a growing list of places around the world. Conservation Collective now comprises twenty locally focused environment foundations, and each one of them is providing support to grassroots organisations which are creating cascading positive change in each of those places. This new funding from Hublot and Depeche Mode is a gamechanger for these efforts.” – Ben Goldsmith, Conservative Collective

CONSERVATION COLLECTIVE

Ben Goldsmith founded Conservation Collective in 2020 to open new channels of philanthropic funding to boost and amplify the impact of local environmental initiatives.

Environmental philanthropy faces two key challenges: persuading people to direct money to the biggest issue of our time and getting that money to the most effective environmental initiatives.

Conservation Collective has a proven and winning formula for both.

We build clubs of donors linked to places they care passionately about, to open new channels of funding for nature restoration. We have seen that people are instinctively ‘place-based’, and that when it comes to conservation and philanthropy, we are all more likely to want to protect the places we know and love.

We set up, incubate, and support local environmental foundations. All over the world, people are working tirelessly to protect the places they love from the impacts of climate change and the biodiversity crisis. Those most affected by environmental problems are often best placed to tackle them, and grassroots action is our most powerful weapon.

Our member foundations unlock new funding for the best and most effective grassroots projects dedicated to preserving, protecting, and regenerating biodiverse ecosystems on land and below water and to slowing down and adapting to climate change.

We’re encouraging more and more effective environmental philanthropy. Our growing network of foundations has already raised millions of pounds for impactful initiatives, and we’re only just getting started…

HUBLOT

Hublot is a Swiss watch manufacturer founded in 1980 and based in Nyon. For its first ever timepiece, this fundamentally disruptive company combined gold with a rubber strap in a case with a design inspired by a ship’s porthole (hublot in French). Thus, the Art of Fusion was born, blending tradition, innovation, craftsmanship, worlds and talents. It became the brand’s aesthetic and technical signature.

This identity was strengthened in 2005 with the Big Bang, which attested to an unrivalled know-how in terms of complications, manufacture movements and state-of-the-art materials. Carbon, titanium, ceramic and sapphire have been developed on this model to technical extremes.

This ground-breaking, high-quality approach to watchmaking is summed up in its philosophy ‘Be First, Unique and Different.’ It gradually led to other collections with innovative designs: Classic Fusion, Spirit of Big Bang, Square Bang and Manufacture Pieces. These draw on high levels of craftsmanship, both in terms of the materials so dear to Hublot (such as Magic Gold, brightly-coloured ceramics and sapphires) and its manufacture movements (Unico chronograph, Meca-10 and high complications such as the Tourbillon, the Cathedral Minute Repeater and the specific Manufacture Pieces movements).

Hublot’s world extends to powerful partnerships including football. ‘Hublot Loves Football’ has become the slogan at the world’s biggest sporting events (such as the FIFA World CupTM, Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA EUROTM) and through its ambassadors. This love of football continues in art, design, music, sport, fine dining and sailing. Lastly, Hublot’s implication in joint environmental projects with SORAI and Polar Pod reflects its concern for the issues of the day.

Over 130 boutiques around the world share Hublot’s fervour and values, alongside the Hublot.com e-commerce site.

JAQUET DROZ PAYS TRIBUTE TO CHINESE CULTURE’S MOST SACRED CREATURE: IMPERIAL DRAGON AUTOMATON RED GOLD – CUPRITE

A masterpiece of art and engineering, this unique animated piece brings to life the mythical creature at the heart of Chinese culture. Meticulous attention paid to its minute details makes for a truly stunning representation. This unique piece combines the talents of John Howe and the master sculptors, painters and engravers at Jaquet Droz to create a Dragon animated by nine different movements.

The Dragon is an animal with historic links to Jaquet Droz. The Atelier’s founder was one of the earliest official suppliers to the Imperial Court of China, 280 years ago. Today, Jaquet Droz still regularly explores the symbolism of the Dragon in collaboration with John Howe, conceptual designer for the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy and one of its most consummate connoisseurs.

The Imperial Dragon Automaton Red Gold – Cuprite embodies this narrative continuity, and continues to enrich it with the deeply disruptive approach of the new Jaquet Droz. It is a modern piece, powerful and unique. It captures the past with both deference and creativity. Respectful yet audacious.

Its dial is made from cuprite, a stone symbolising strength, energy and vitality, with its bright red colour representing the Dragon’s characteristic fire. However, not many people are aware that the Dragon is also associated with rain, which is why the Jaquet Droz Artisans have surrounded its head and tail with clouds painted in shades of gold and ochre. This dragon features all of the distinguishing traits from Chinese culture: two moustache tendrils pointing upwards, a full beard, gently rounded teeth – the Dragon was not necessarily menacing, often representing a benevolent force. Each scale on its body is hand-shaped and hand-patinated. Its toes and claws are disturbingly life-like, which is only accentuated by the movements they make.

At 6 o’clock, the animal grasps a ball of red jasper, chosen for its properties of attracting success and abundance, and protecting and promoting openness to the world. On it, the Jaquet Droz Artisans have trapped fragments of gold dust beneath a layer of transparent varnish. To showcase the animation, discreet openings cut into the dial above the ball and at three o’clock allow a part of the magic – created by 19 moving parts in total – bringing the nine different animations on the piece to life to be glimpsed. These include the undulating of the sacred animal’s spine, the opening and closing of its jaw and eye, the movement of its tongue, the raising and lowering of its crest, and its claws grasping the jasper, which also rotates constantly. The sequence of the animation changes each time it is activated, to retain the magic and mystery for its one and only future collector.

ZENITH ADDS TWO NEW MODELS TO THE CHRONOMASTER SPORT LINE

ELEVATED FREQUENCIES: ZENITH ADDS TWO NEW MODELS TO THE CHRONOMASTER SPORT LINE WITH THE FIRST GREEN CERAMIC BEZEL AND INTEGRATED RUBBER STRAP AS WELL AS THE FIRST GEM-SET REFERENCE

In the three years since its introduction, the Chronomaster Sport has made its mark and solidified its position as a leading contender among sporty chronographs. The heir to a long legacy of ZENITH chronographs that began prior to the game-changing El Primero’s launch in 1969, the Chronomaster Sport is the culmination point in the Manufacture’s pursuit of precision, performance and design. Now, the award-winning Chronomaster Sport takes on a chromatic striking green ceramic bezel and dial, while debuting the line’s new integrated rubber strap.

ZENITH also presents an exceptional rendition of the Chronomaster Sport exclusively for its boutiques. It combines the 1/10th of a second chronograph with expert gem-setting in the firstever bejewelled Chronomaster Sport, crafted in rose gold and embellished with terrestrial gemstones and cosmic metal.

ZENITH’s exemplary Chronomaster welcomes two different editions – and they couldn’t be more striking. For the first time in the Chronomaster Sport core collection, the engraved 1/10th of a second bezel on top of the 41mm steel case with pump-style pushers is crafted in green ceramic. Fitted with a three-link steel bracelet with adjustable clasp, the green aesthetic explores a different side of sportiness with vibrant chromatics. This play on tones and contrasts extends to the dial, which is done in a green lacquer matching the tone of the ceramic bezel. Unmistakably a Chronomaster, it features ZENITH’s signature tricolour counters in shades of grey and blue. The date wheel has also been colour-matched to the dial.

Two references are available: one with the three-link stainless steel bracelet, and the second with ZENITH’s new rubber strap developed specifically for the Chronomaster Sport. Crafted from soft yet durable FKM rubber, the strap is designed to be perfectly integrated with the case and its colour matched to the bezel.

For those seeking something more dazzling, ZENITH presents the fanciest iteration of the Chronomaster Sport yet. Eye-catching and inherently precious, the Chronomaster Sport is crafted in a radiant rose gold case and bracelet, with a dazzling bezel featuring expertly set baguette-cut white diamonds, black spinels and grey as well as blue sapphires on the bezel. The El Primero’s trademark tricolour scheme takes on a new context here, embellishing the Chronomaster Sport to new heights while remaining instantly recognizable.

The dial is just as exceptional in this special execution of the Chronomaster Sport, which deftly combines innovative watchmaking with gem-setting. Crafted from a slab of meteorite, the dial is meticulously hand-finished then given a golden colour that reveal the meteorite’s unique Windmanstätten pattern with a warm, solar glow. Adding to the complexity of working with an extraterrestrial material, the dial is set with baguette-cut diamond hour markers and applied chronograph counters in the traditional shades of grey and blue. As the finishing touch of harmony, the date wheel is done in a gold tone matching the dial.

The latest in a long line of ZENITH chronographs that have raised the bars of performance and precision, the Chronomaster Sport is equipped with the latest version of the El Primero calibre, dubbed the El Primero 3600. With its high frequency of 5 Hz (36’000 VpH), the movement offers a true 1/10th of second indication. Its autonomy has also been rendered more efficient, with an extended power reserve of 60 hours. The sapphire display back provides an unobstructed view of the movement’s contemporary, architecture features a sleeker and more open design, revealing a blue column wheel and open rotor marked with the five-pointed star Zenith.

The gem-set Chronomaster Sport is exclusively available at ZENITH physical and online boutiques around the world, while the Chronomaster Sport in green dial is available at ZENITH boutiques as well as authorized retailers.

ZENITH AT LVMH WW 2024: EL PRIMERO TRIPLE CALENDAR

The El Primero Triple Calendar returns with style with an all-new calibre in the Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar

The long-awaited ZENITH triple calendar chronograph makes its grand return – and its sharper than ever before. One of the most emblematic variations of the El Primero for over 50 years, ZENITH’s triple calendar chronograph is instantly recognizable for its clean and balanced display of information. In the new Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar, ZENITH is combining the cutting-edge performance of its legendary automatic high-frequency chronograph calibre’s latest incarnation with a triple calendar and moon phase, all in a compact and historically inspired design that’s unmistakably Chronomaster.

One could say that the Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar has been 55 years in the making. A little-known fact that attests to just how advanced ZENITH’s groundbreaking automatic high-frequency chronograph calibre was at the time of its launch in 1969, the El Primero was initially designed to accommodate the triple calendar and moon phase functions right from the very beginning. A series of 25 prototypes was produced in 1970 as a proof of concept, using the same round case as the A386. But given the success of the core chronograph version, it was decided to wait a few years before releasing the first version of the El Primero triple calendar in a watch, which by the 1970s took on a much more space-age design.

With a host of functions, the Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar is possibly the most versatile and functional line within the Chronomaster collection. While the 1/10th of a second chronograph is as prominent and legible as the standard Chronomaster Original, the inclusion of the complete calendar is executed in a manner that makes it intuitive to read without cluttering the dial. The days of the week and months are displayed in symmetrically positioned windows above the chronograph counters, while the date window is positioned in the traditional El Primero position of 04:30. The moonphase display is placed with the chronograph’s 60-minute counter at 6 o’clock.

The Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar’s compact 38mm case in steel isn’t just vintage inspired, but in fact based on the exact blueprint and proportions of the A386 from 1969. With its bezel-less construction and featuring a raised and domed sapphire crystal, the incorporation of a complete calendar with moonphase mechanism to the automatic high-frequency 1/10th of a second chronograph calibre without altering the case’s proportions are a true feat of ingenious design.

The Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar comes in two distinct dial versions: A sportier silvery-white “panda” opaline dial with black counters and 1/10th of a second scale, and an opulent opaline slate-grey dial with silvery-white counters and scale that is directly inspired by the small series of El Primero triple calendar prototypes from 1970. Both versions are highlighted by rose gold-tone applied baton markers and hands, adding a warm contrast that brings out the polished rose gold moon set on a metallic blue sunray-patterned disk with five-pointed stars. A third dial variant, exclusively for the Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar Boutique Edition available only at ZENITH physical and online boutiques, is done in a sunburst olive-green tone with golden applied markers and hands. In each version, the calendar wheels match the dial colours.

A new variant of the latest generation El Primero automatic high-frequency chronograph calibre, the Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar’s El Primero 3610 operates at a rate of 5 Hz (36’000 VpH) to deliver a true 1/10th of a second chronograph function. Even with the addition of the complete calendar, its efficient transmission allows for a power reserve of approximately 60 hours. The sapphire display back provides an unobstructed view of the movement’s contemporary architecture, with a sleek and open design revealing the blue column wheel and open rotor marked with the five-pointed ZENITH star.

The Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar comes with either a three-link steel bracelet with the same alternating brushed and polished finishes as the case, or a calfskin strap in black for the panda dial, blue for the slate-grey dial and green for the Boutique Edition dial.

The Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar with silvery-white and slate-grey dials are available from all ZENITH boutiques and authorized retailers, while the Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar Boutique Edition is available exclusively from ZENITH physical and online boutiques worldwide.

Both are adorned with rhodium-plated and 18K 5N pink gold plated indexes accentuated by a sumptuous red lacquer creating a harmonious blend. The distinct red “azuré” subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock add a captivating contrast with the dial, mirroring the emblematic reverse panda design.

The discreet yet significant calligraphic dragon character at 6 o’clock serves as an emblem of tradition but also exemplifies TAG Heuer’s commitment to honoring heritage within a contemporary design. The caseback design is fully customized to reveal a printed Chinese Dragon figure around the sapphire glass. Around it, are special engravings to indicate the watch’s limited release, “Limited Edition” along “One of 300” for the steel version and “One of 50” for the more exclusive 18K 5N pink gold version.

The Manero Peripheral Perpetual Calendar by Carl F. Bucherer

A REVOLUTION IN WATCHMAKING AND A LEGACY FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS: The Manero Peripheral Perpetual Calendar, accurate until the next century, is a constant companion for the journey through time.

Distinctive color-blocked designs set in 18 K rose gold cases create a striking aesthetic that’s ideal for contemporary urban lifestyles. Within, a movement featuring unimaginable accuracy, combining – for the first time – a perpetual calendar, a moon-phase display and a peripherally mounted automatic winding system. With eye-catching visual appeal from the front and unobstructed views of the movement through the case back, thanks to CFB’s signature peripheral technology, these timepieces balance modern style with exemplary workmanship.

The Manero Peripheral Perpetual Calendar is an astonishing feat of horological mechanical engineering, displaying the leap year, date, day, month and moon phase in a small window and four subdials. Its signature complication – from which it draws its name – means it can maintain the correct date for decades to come, without the wearer ever having to make corrections between months of varying lengths.

Even taking leap years into account, the timepiece will remain accurate until the year 2100 before requiring a small adjustment – and then will require further adjustments only every century. That lends the timepiece unmatched power – not just to become a treasured companion throughout the wearer’s lifetime, present at every major life event and richly imbued with their personal story, but a legacy with the potential to become a family heirloom passed down the generations.

Profound finesse

That precision is complemented by the Manero Peripheral Perpetual Calendar’s moon-phase complication – an exquisite piece of craftsmanship in itself. It is comprised of hand-engraved hemispheric rose gold moons on aventurine.

One final complication: A peripherally mounted automatic winding system. With a bidirectional oscillating weight that turns on three frictionless ceramic ball-bearings housed in shock-absorbing mountings, this ensures that the view of the movement from the caseback is never obscured and is one of CFB’s signature peripheral technologies. Integrating all these components and boasting a 55-hour power reserve, the CFB A2055 caliber movement exemplifies the watchmaking finesse of Carl F. Bucherer.

Unmistakable style

The movement lies beneath designs finished in bold colorways that stand out for their innate confidence and unmistakable style. Available in black, green and taupe, the Manero Peripheral Perpetual Calendar embodies the Manero product family, created for those living in our most vibrant and fashionable cities. Also available – exclusively through Bucherer 1888 and limited to just eight pieces – is a version in an arresting rose hue.

Each Manero Peripheral Perpetual Calendar features a sunray-brushed dial center and opaline index zone, with rose-gold-plated wedge index marks to complement the case. Dials are color-matched to calfskin straps that feature a Milky Way texture, quick release system and 18 K rose gold pin-lock folding clasp. These designs represent CFB’s embrace of fashion and a passion for color – a marker of its widening appeal as it evolves beyond the traditions and conventions of high-end watchmaking.

Dakar 2024: Rebellion Timepieces reveals limited edition series

A tribute to endurance: Timekeeping crafted for the extreme

As the event’s Official Timekeeper since 2019, Rebellion Timepieces accompanies the competitors in the world’s most prestigious endurance race from start to finish. And, just like in previous editions, one-of-a-kind limited series are showcased a few hours before the 46th Dakar kicks off.

With 7,891 km of gravel-filled tracks and tons of sandy dunes, 778 drivers all categories combined, a 48-hour monster-marathon “chrono stage”… it goes without saying, the 46th Dakar programme lives up to its word! When it comes to hitting the finish line, riders will need to give it their all. From 5 to 19 January 2024, from AlUla, through Riyadh, then back to Yanbu, Rebellion Timepieces will be hellbent on recording their performances as they speed along dusty Saudi Arabian dirt-tracks and roads. As the legendary rally-raid’s Official Timekeeper for the 6th year in a row, the Swiss brand will be putting its expertise to work for the greatest adrenaline-boosting competition ever. At the end of the 12 stages, the winners will be presented with exclusive commemorative watches. For this Dakar edition, two unparalleled creations, in the shape of limited series boasting just 15 pieces, are powerfully infused with the Dakar spirit.

The Predator Chrono Dakar 2024

Incomparable, ambitious, uncompromising… in a nutshell, Rebellion-created watches with motorsport get-up-and-go! First up, the Predator Chrono Dakar 2024 conjures up the Rebel watchmakers’ undying passion for the Dakar. This piece spotlights the perfect high-tech and stylistic fusion of the race and cutting-edge watchmaking. Its exquisitely-sophisticated black DLC-dressed dial invites to take to the wheel and sprint off to adventure. Time data’s ever-so easy to read in this model’s openworked scenescape. Warm, sunny nuances echoing sandy desert hues stand out on the honeycomb-mesh design. The chronograph counters and sequential small seconds set off with dashes of red breathe life into a dynamic scenography where each component plays a leading role. The Super-LumiNova®-topped golden hands and markers heighten wearer-friendliness of the watch, imagined like a can’t-do-without instrument in the cockpit of a Dakar racer.

Carbon fibre, the must-of-all-musts in developing and fine-tuning high-performance sports prototypes cut out to conquer, flaunts first-class mechanical properties, trumps for watchmaking: lightness and incredible hardness. This multi-layer, resin-coated fabric is also armed with a weight/resistance ratio beyond compare. What’s more, this composite material, 75% lighter than steel and 10 times more resistant, accentuates a watch’s character with its highly-original striated pattern that brings out impressive design. Thanks to all its assets, carbon has become Rebellion Timepieces’ high-tech and stylistic signature by diffusing no-compromise creation into its masterpieces.

As such, the Predator Chrono Dakar 2024 dazzles with superlative manufacturing quality, centre staged through its sculptural 48 mm-diameter case, waterproof to depths of 50 metres, protected by a bezel also crafted in carbon. This state-of-the-art material’s random pattern exalts the watch’s exclusive identity. And, to underpin its sporty look even more, this edition comes complete with a Cordura® textile strap whose colour matches the tones that fashion Dakar’s desert panoramas.

All the time data, including the date, is accurately driven by a Swiss Made calibre. This self-winding movement delivers a power reserve of 48 hours when the timepiece isn’t being worn. The honeycomb-forged, twirling and whirling oscillating weight catches the eye through the iconic Dakar logo-decorated sapphire-crystal caseback.

This same vibrant colour graces the stylized markers, the date aperture and the trio of hour, minute and second hands, as well as the minute tracker running round the flange. NEW HAMILTON VENTURA MODELS DEMONSTRATE UNCONVENTIONAL AND BOLD SKELETON DESIGN

Since its release in 1957, the Hamilton Ventura has been a model of design and watchmaking, demonstrating the extraordinary power of innovation and futurism. As the Year of the Dragon approaches, Hamilton Ventura opens a new chapter in its legend, featuring an unconventional and bold skeleton dragon dial design that celebrates the prestige and strength symbolized by the legendary creature.

The Dragon has many beautiful meanings in Eastern culture, in addition to strength and luck; it also represents a strong enterprising spirit, so it is often a symbol of opportunities and success. As an icon of futuristic invention for more than a half-century, the Hamilton Ventura is the perfect combination of esthetic and technical ingenuity.

Today, as the Year of the Dragon approaches, our new Ventura Dragon Skeleton starts a new chapter of the revolutionary story, with an unconventional and bold skeleton dragon face design on the dial, paying tribute to the dragon’s spirit and celebrating good fortune for everyone.

The striking cutaways on the dial reveal a dragon’s face full of power and courage. The dragon’s face is 90° clockwise on the dial, which perfectly fits the Ventura’s iconic and avant-garde, geometric shield shape.

The Ventura Dragon Skeleton is available in two impressive versions. The first features a rose gold PVD coated case and black skeleton dial, framing the dragon’s piercing green eyes.  The second model highlights the dragon in black PVD with flaming red eyes. A dramatic red second hand sweeps across the all-black dragon’s face, as if its gathered energy is about to be released.

Under the dial beats the H-10-S movement with an 80-hour power reserve, an equally uncompromising piece of engineering, with a Nivachron™ balance spring for better resistance against magnetic fields, temperature variation and shocks.

The sapphire glass with anti-reflective coating and the white Super-LumiNova® coated hour and minute hands makes the watch fit to wear from day to night, while the black rubber strap with a 3D dragon scale pattern adds the finishing touch to this bold watch.

As a symbol of luck and strength, the Ventura Dragon Skeleton will help you push the boundaries of every opportunity.

Hidden in plain sight: Zenith Defy Extreme Mirror

An unexplained watchmaking phenomenon has entered our atmosphere. ZENITH unveils an unprecedented and conceptual take on its staple 1/100th of a second chronograph, reimagined as a mirroring camouflage: Meet the DEFY Extreme Mirror.

The ultimate ultramodern camouflage watch has arrived. A monolithic object that reflects all light and colours – yet has no colours of its own. A form so geometrically outstanding but finished in such a way that it blends right in with its surroundings. An engine that operates at such a high-frequency rate, it’s nothing short of astounding. The DEFY Extreme line is not only inspired by the elements but also built to adapt and blend into them. With the DEFY Extreme Mirror, ZENITH is exploring a totally new expression of its most rugged chronograph to date that seemingly blends reality and our perception of our surroundings.

Shrouded in mystery and intrigue, the DEFY Extreme Mirror evokes some kind of UFO that has masked its arrival on our planet. With its fully mirror-polished metal exterior, the earth, the sky and the entire horizon are reflected without distortion. Paradoxically, the DEFY Extreme Mirror is at once eye-catching and stealthy. It doesn’t attempt to hide in its surroundings but blends in completely by reflecting it entirely from its gleaming surface. The highly angular case, as well as its integrated bracelet, are crafted in stainless steel, which are then immaculately mirror-polished all over for a chrome-like appearance.

And it’s not just the case that’s mirrored. The open multi-layered dial features a central element in sapphire crystal with a metallic mirrored finish that’s translucent yet reflective. The 1/100th of a second chronograph scale features satin-brushed metallic elements, keeping the dial easy to read while maintaining the fluid, all-metal theme.

Partially visible through the open dial as well as the sapphire case back is the world’s fastest automatic high-frequency chronograph calibre in production, offering 1/100th of a second time measurements by means of two independent escapements beating at the rates of 5Hz (36’000 VpH) for the timekeeping part and 50Hz (360’000 VpH) for the chronograph function. For the DEFY Extreme Mirror, the star-shaped winding rotor is finished in a silvery-grey metallic tone to match the case and dial elements.

Completing the look of this intriguing piece are the supplied durable black Velcro strap and rubber strap, which can be easily swapped with the steel bracelet using the quick strap-change mechanism on the back of the case.

The DEFY Extreme Mirror is available at ZENITH physical and online boutiques as well as authorized retailers around the world.

Because innovation is synonymous with responsibility, the ZENITH HORIZ-ON initiative affirms the brand’s commitments to inclusion & diversity, sustainability and employee wellbeing. It is an honour to be collaborating with Hublot and to get the opportunity to showcase my take on Arabian heritage infused into luxury watchmaking. Inspired by my deeply rooted appreciation for our language and culture, it is a joyous experience to draw inspiration from various words & phrases and to design two exquisite timepieces. – WISSAM SHAWKAT

Paying homage to Arabian heritage, the two timepieces have been designed with sourced inspiration from deeply rooted passion for heritage and culture – drawing inspiration from various phrases and words from the Arabic language. Both timepieces feature exquisite calligraphy inside their dials, a true testament to the fusion of art with exceptional watchmaking. The calligraphy, meticulously created by the celebrated artist Wissam Shawkat, introduces vibrant and contrasting colors that beautifully complement the sleek black cases and dials. The calligraphy reads “Al Zaman” and “Al Waqt” – both words meaning time in Arabic – to symbolize the fusion between the watch brand, Arabian culture, and calligraphy. The rich, bright colours set against the black background create an eye-catching and distinctive aesthetic that embodies the spirit of Dubai.

The Classic Fusion Black Magic Dubai Watch Week sits in a 42-mm case with a matching Hublot black ceramic bezel featuring a unique twist in the dial. Highlighting Arabic calligraphy in rich bright orange, blue, green, and red, the mechanics of the HUB1110 self-winding movement and its 42-hour power reserve mark the time. The alligator strap with a black steel deployant buckle extenuates further the robust contrast between the flushed calligraphy and black ceramic. Encased is Wissam Shawkat’s stunning calligraphy, which weaves its way around the dial, reminiscent of the mesmerizing landscapes of Dubai’s dunes and urban skyline.

For those seeking a touch of opulence, the Classic Fusion Black Magic Diamonds Dubai Watch Week 38-mm elevates the experience with the addition of 36 black brilliant-cut diamonds set on the polished black anodized aluminium bezel. Wissam Shawkat’s calligraphy in this timepiece is a true work of art, with the sparkling diamonds accentuating every curve and stroke, showcasing the perfect synergy between horology and artistic expression.

These calligraphic timepieces are sure to strike their mark on Dubai Watch Week and on the wrist!

His teen summers were spent lettering for a local sign shop before he began studying for a degree in Civil Engineering at Basra University, graduating in 1996. The life as a Civil Engineer, though, was not Shawkat’s destiny and the point where his affinity for letterforms would wait no longer quickly came. In recent years, Shawkat has become known for a new calligraphic style, Al Wissam, which references several traditional scripts bringing them together with modern design.

He has received numerous prizes for his calligraphy and has participated as both an artist and committee member at multiple editions of the local and International Calligraphy Exhibitions.

He is based in Dubai, where he is engaged full-time as an artist, designer and Arabic typographer. His work is regularly featured in books on Arabic calligraphy and typography, His work is found in private collections, as well as museum collections around the world.

These draw on high levels of craftsmanship, both in terms of the materials so dear to Hublot (such as Magic Gold, brightly-coloured ceramics and sapphires) and its manufacture movements (Unico chronograph, Meca-10 and large complications such as the Tourbillon, the Cathedral Minute Repeater and the specific Manufacture Pieces movements).

Almost 130 boutiques around the world share Hublot’s fervour and values, alongside the Hublot.com ecommerce site.

Zenith & Time+Tide unveil their second collaborative series, the Defy Skyline Skeleton Night Surfer El Primero

Zenith CEO Julien Tornare and Time+Tide Founder, Andrew McUtchen have come together to proudly unveil the second chapter of their highly sought-after collaboration.

After the DEFY Classic Skeleton Night Surfer limited edition of 100 pieces released in 2021, which captured the magnificence of the darkening night sky and the ocean in a microblasted titanium case paired with a liquid blue gradient dial, the Manufacture and Australian tastemakers present the DEFY Skyline Skeleton Night Surfer El Primero, a limited edition of 200 pieces.

An evolution of the DEFY Classic Skeleton, the DEFY Skyline Skeleton takes both the design and performance to new heights. Bolder, bluer, more geometric lines and the latest generation of the high-frequency automatic El Primero calibre, the DEFY Skyline Skeleton Night Surfer El Primero is both a sequel and evolution of the original. For Time+Tide, the objective was to retain all the elements that made the original Night Surfer so outstanding while incorporating all the improvements that the DEFY Skyline Skeleton offers.

A first for the DEFY Skyline Skeleton model, the entire angular 41mm case with its dodecagonal bezel and integrated bracelet are crafted in microblasted titanium, lending it a homogenous, subdued grey tone with minimal light reflection. The addition of a screw-down crown ensuring a water-resistance of 10 ATM (100 metres) makes this version more water sports-ready, as does the interchangeable strap system. A second textured blue rubber strap is included, which requires no tools to be swapped.

“These key upgrades to the Night Surfer Skeleton El Primero make it a totally different timepiece to both the first Night Surfer and the Skyline Skeleton collection in general,” Andrew McUtchen, founder of Time+Tide says. “But perhaps the most exciting new feature is the El Primero movement that drives it. The buttery smooth 1/10th of a second counter on the dial is the proof that you have a truly high performance machine on your wrist, wherever you take it; in the water, or out.”

The gradient night sky dial concept returns in the DEFY Skyline Skeleton Night Surfer El Primero, but takes on a new form and more dramatic execution. The open dial features a large central four-pointed star element, which is perfectly incorporated into the skeletonisation of the movement’s blue bridges and main plate. The dial’s metallic blue colour darkens from the bottom to the top, evoking the fading light on the horizon right after sunset. As a nod to the original Night Surfer, which featured the ZENITH applied star logo in Super-LumiNova, the entire four-pointed star on the dial is highlighted with luminescent lines that come to life in the dark, making the star that much more visible and brighter. Positioned at 6 o’clock, the dial features a unique feature among skeleton watches: a running 1/10th of a second indicator.

This highly animate feature in the DEFY Skyline Skyline Night Surfer El Primero is delivered by the El Primero 3620 automatic high-frequency manufacture movement, beating at the rate of 5Hz (36’000VpH). This rate allows for the 1/10th of a second indicator to be directly driven by the escapement. Its efficient automatic bi-directional winding mechanism with a blue star-shaped rotor delivers a power reserve of approximately 60 hours.

The DEFY Skyline Skyline Night Surfer El Primero is a limited edition of 200 pieces, available exclusively on Time+Tide’s online store and ZENITH’s online boutiques around the world.

ZENITH Unveils the Chronomaster Aaron Rodgers Editon

ZENITH IS PROUD TO UNVEIL THE CHRONOMASTER SPORT AARON RODGERS EDITION, THE FOOTBALL LEGEND’S FIRST EPONYMOUS WATCH

As an exemplary figure living ZENITH’s “Time to Reach Your Star” philosophy to the fullest, legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers proudly took on the role of brand ambassador in 2021. ZENITH and Aaron Rodgers celebrate a new milestone in their relationship with the launch of the Chronomaster Sport Aaron Rodgers edition- the first timepiece he has designed, limited to 250 pieces.

A living legend on the field, ZENITH ambassador and 4-time MVP Aaron Rodgers has come a long way in reaching his star. His passion, perseverance, and discipline have made him one of the greatest athletes to ever play the game. His commitment to excellence and precision and unique understanding of what a difference a single instant can make have made Aaron Rodgers the perfect ambassador for ZENITH, the renowned LVMH-owned Swiss watch manufacture.

Over the course of his relationship with ZENITH, Aaron has developed a particular affinity for the Manufacture’s Chronomaster Sport, which features the latest generation of the renowned El Primero column-wheel chronograph caliber that’s able to measure and display 1/10th of a second. A model that exudes performance, agility and elegance while also highlighting ZENITH’s unique mastery of the chronograph, the Chronomaster Sport has been a natural choice.

Every meticulous detail of this chronograph resonates with the profound connection that Aaron Rodgers shares with timekeeping and precision. The intricate design, the exquisite craftsmanship, and the carefully selected materials all bear witness to the profound journey of self-expression that Rodgers undertook in the design of this timepiece.

ZENITH CEO Julien Tornare shared, “I’m absolutely thrilled that our first-ever Chronomaster Sport limited edition was made in honor for our cherished brand ambassador Aaron Rodgers. It is a testament to his unstoppable spirit and determination. He continuously reminds us that the drive to reach your star should never be let go, even in times of challenge. And when you finally reach your star, aim for the next one. We had a wonderful time designing this special edition with Aaron and we are even more pleased to finally be able to share it with the world.”

Aaron Rodgers added, “I’m so thankful to ZENITH for giving me the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream of designing my very own watch. As a history buff I have immense respect for ZENITH’s history and visiting their Manufacture last year gave me an even deeper appreciation of their craftsmanship and dedication to excellence. Working with their team to incorporate all the different elements I wanted to include was a fun adventure and I couldn’t be happier to see our vision come to life in this watch”.

Using the steel Chronomaster Sport as the foundation, Aaron Rodgers wanted his limited edition timepiece to heavily feature the color that has accompanied him throughout his phenomenal career. Exceptionally for this edition, the engraved bezel with a 1/10th of a second scale has been crafted in green ceramic. The dial is fashioned in the same shade of green as the bezel and, for the first time in the Chronomaster Sport collection, the hour markers featured are applied luminescent Arabic numerals, resembling jersey numbers. The tricolor dial configuration has been reinterpreted in shades of anthracite, light grey and silver. A three-link steel bracelet with fine-adjustment clasp complete the sporty look and feel without compromising comfort.

The latest in a long line of ZENITH chronographs that have raised the bars of performance and precision, the Chronomaster Sport is equipped with the newest version of the El Primero caliber.  With its high frequency of 5 Hz (36’000 VpH), the movement offers a true 1/10th of second indication, for those moments when every fraction of a second can make a difference. Its autonomy has also been rendered more efficient, with an extended power reserve of 60 hours. In further celebration of ZENITH’s collaboration with Aaron Rodgers, the sapphire display back is emblazoned with his “AR” logo.

The Chronomaster Sport Aaron Rodgers is a limited edition of 250 pieces and is available for purchase via ZENITH’s physical and online boutiques around the world starting November 2, 2023.

Komen® and which marks the first new dial colour for the steel Chronomaster Sport since the collection’s launch in 2021.

A bold colour with a strong message. The Chronomaster Sport Pink limited edition is the latest in a long series of ZENITH special and unique watches created to raise awareness on breast cancer. A worthy cause that falls within the ZENITH HORIZ-ON initiative’s main pillar of women’s empowerment, ZENITH supports Susan G. Komen®, the world’s leading breast cancer organization and its mission to raise global awareness about the impact of breast cancer. Alongside numerous activities to be hosted in major cities across the world this October, ZENITH is furthering its commitment during Breast Cancer Awareness Month by using its most popular model, the Chronomaster Sport, to support the cause. The Chronomaster Sport Pink limited edition of 500 watches marks the latest action by ZENITH in support of the foundation, with a portion of the sales donated to reach more women and offer access to education, support and hope.

On ZENITH’s continued support for the Susan G. Komen foundation, CEO Julien Tornare shared “The Chronomaster Sport is definitely our most emblematic modern El Primero chronograph today, and I’m so happy to see it serve as a vessel to promote the fight against breast cancer and raise awareness. The Chronomaster Sport Pink limited edition reimagines ZENITH’s award-winning 1/10th of a second chronograph with a striking pink dial. Its radiant sunburst metallic dial reflecting a range of intense pink hues, while its oversized chronograph counters and even the date wheel have been coloured to match.

In a first for the steel version of the Chronomaster Sport, the engraved 1/10th of a second bezel is crafted in steel instead of ceramic. With its polished surface and black filled engraved markers, it takes on a slightly retro vibe, recalling the El Primero “Rainbow” models of the 1990s. Paired with the three-link steel bracelet, the pink dial truly stands out.

Visible through the sapphire display back is the latest version of the El Primero calibre. With its high frequency of 5 Hz (36’000 VpH), the movement offers a true 1/10th of second indication. The contemporary and efficient construction allows for a power reserve of 60 hours.

The Chronomaster Sport Pink is limited to 500 pieces and available from ZENITH physical and online boutiques as well as authorized retailers around the world. 20% of the proceeds from the sale of the Chronomaster Sport Pink will directly be donated to Susan G. Komen, supporting its efforts to make a positive impact on their community by allowing patients everywhere to live better, longer lives.

HUBLOT BIG BANG TOURBILLON SR_A BY SAMUEL ROSS

Art, creativity, design, a never-ending story of renewal. An organic and cyclical process in which Ross, the radically distinct, generational artist, continues to grow his own creations. Like living materials, Dr. Samuel Ross’s creativity and thoughts are constantly shaping, reshaping, improving, imagining and reimagining things. For his next development on the Big Bang Tourbillon SR_A by Samuel Ross, Ross has brought subtle yet insightful details. Precision, clarity and choice are integrated through SR_A’s signature industrial language.

Constantly pushing new boundaries in terms of materials, fusion and aesthetics, Hublot has been loving Art for more than 10 years, working closely with daring, unconventional artists and designers to envision watches from new creative angles. The collaboration between Hublot and Ross began in 2020, in a three-year engineering process leading to an entirely new development, from case to crown, to dial, strap and bezel: the Big Bang Tourbillon SR_A by Samuel Ross. Just as with living materials, Ross’s creativity is constantly shaping, reshaping, improving his own thoughts, building on his first watch design to turn the watch case into a gray monochrome outfit to be worn on of the three rubber straps ranging from vivid green to black or white. A new iteration to which he has brought some subtle yet insightfully rethought details.

So, what’s new?

To assert its industrial look, Ross has opted to attire all the watch case components in shiny micro-blasted titanium, extending this to the clasp which also features a rough laser engraving of the Hublot logo. To enhance the overall gray monochrome look, the crown is overmolded in gray rubber, while the tourbillon bridge now appears in a neutral shade enabling the watch to be easily paired with one of the three smooth full rubber straps in black, white or the pop vibes of vivid green.

We are focused on crafting refined, minimal and expressive timepieces. SR_A, looks to expand, re-define and establish timeless icons of design, reflecting a spirit of innovation, optimism and craft. I firmly believe we need all three properties to usher in the next chapter of luxury. – Dr. SAMUEL ROSS Artist and Designer

From sculpture to wearable wrist sculpture

Applying Samuel Ross’s artistic language to Hublot watchmaking is exactly how he envisioned the sculpture that marked the start of his creative collaboration with Hublot in 2020 : encapsulating materials in aerodynamic, simple and striking shapes incorporating imprints of Nature’s sacred geometry to tell 40 years of Hublot history. Building on the perfect hexagonal pattern, Ross knows how to contrast hyper-technical with traditional elements to ensure a perfect fit with Hublot’s Art of Fusion vision. Just as in the sculpture he created for Hublot, Ross takes on the Big Bang tourbillon by playing on transparency with holes in the structure, as well as referencing the origins of Fusion by mixing rubber with manufactured metal. By juxtaposing contrasting materials, he has created a balance between the organic and the industrial, forged through innovation.

What defines the true nature of a collaboration between an artist and a brand? It is bringing together the best of two worlds while deeply respecting and building on the true nature of two visions. The Big Bang Tourbillon Samuel Ross, launched in 2022, has ticked all the boxes of a successful and genuine collaboration, yet one in which Ross had left a powerful imprint through his aesthetic, functional and purposeful take on our watch, remaining true to who we are while shedding light from a different angle. His new iteration represents the next steps of a never-ending story demonstrating how creativity and engineering must never be taken for granted in consistently pushing existing boundaries to enhance our own creations. – RICARDO GUADALUPE HUBLOT CEO

Mingling sacred and industrial, organic and synthetic influences

With the hexagonal honeycomb shape and its perfect six equal sides, Ross has chosen the dominant governing pattern in the natural world recalling the functionality of a watch. Exactly like every single object he has designed, the watch is conceived as a durable, ergonomic and incredibly lightweight object – in this case made to be wristworn. Transposing this sacred geometry of Nature into the watch, Ross envisioned titanium plates to be polished, brushed, hammered and perforated in order to create a lean and imposing silhouette inducing a sense of motion.

The Big Bang Tourbillon SR_A by Samuel Ross is driven by the accuracy and technical design of the 282-component Manufacture HUB6035 caliber beating at 3 Hz during its 72-hour power reserve. Just as the first release, this new iteration is produced in a 50-piece limited edition.

Ross’s story to date

Artist and Designer Samuel Ross has defined his perspective through the arts; painting, sculpture, furniture, industrial design and fashion in particular.

Through founding both companies A-Cold-Wall*, since 2015, and SR_A since 2019 Dr. Ross has pioneered a signature design language that has translated to immersive, radical collaborations, developing and establishing a global cult audience, through multi-year design partnerships with Beats, Nike, Timberland, Converse Dr. Martens, Mackintosh, RideCake, Absolut, Acqua Di Parma and Hublot.

Developing a new millennial perspective in luxury goods, through his latest and most refined brand SR_A , founded in the same year he was awarded the Hublot Design Prize, has naturally occurred.

This polymathic creative force was named on the Forbes “30 under 30 Europe” list in 2020, has won numerous distinctions including GQ Fashion Awards and British Fashion Awards, received the Hublot Design Prize in 2019 as well as been a finalist for both the LVMH Prize and the ANDAM Award. Alongside his creative collaboration with Hublot, he has made a lasting imprint through his take on brands including Dr Marten’s, Mercedes-Benz, Nike, and Oakley. His designs have been worn by celebrities like Lewis Hamilton, Idris Elba, Daniel Kaluuya, Lebron James, Jay Z, Swizz Beats, Nick Jonas, Sophie Turner, BTS, Central Cee. As an active artist, Ross has been exhibiting in various museums around the world (Victoria & Albert Museum, London, UK., National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh, Design Museum, London, UK, Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, TX, Denver Art Museum, Denver, CO, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX) as well as galleries with solo exhibitions (White Cube, Friedman Benda, Design Miami).

This ground-breaking, high-quality approach to watchmaking is summed up in its philosophy ‘Be First, Unique and Different.’ It gradually led to other collections with innovative designs: Classic Fusion, Shaped Collection (Spirit of Big Bang, Square Bang) and Manufacture Pieces.

HUBLOT – A FUSION OF JEWELLER’S DESIGN AND CRAFTSMANSHIP

Hublot combines iconic design and craftsmanship with its Classic Fusion High Jewellery 2023 watch, a stunning piece of high jewellery with 431 dazzling baguette-cut diamonds.

The latest addition to Hublot’s High Jewellery collection of watches is a Classic Fusion High Jewellery 42 mm in white gold set with baguette-cut diamonds. It fits effortlessly into the brand’s High Jewellery collection alongside other iconic models such as the Big Bang, the Spirit of Big Bang and the Square Bang Unico, adorned with white gold, diamonds and even rainbow-coloured gemstones. The Classic Fusion High Jewellery 42mm combines iconic design with the most remarkable gem-setting techniques. This Classic Fusion, embellished with baguette-cut diamonds and enhanced with sleek lines of white gold, has become a true Hublot icon. An exceptional accolade for a timeless watch.

The highest form of sophistication is simplicity, so Hublot has chosen to go back to basics and to the very shape that epitomised its creation in 1980. The result is now one that offers an acclaimed expression of high jewellery, accentuating the timeless purity of the Classic Fusion model. What a stunning piece! Master gem-setters have brought this new Classic Fusion High Jewellery 2023 to life with no fewer than 431 baguette-cut diamonds—around 14.6 carats in total. These gemstones adorn the watch’s case, bezel, dial and clasp. On the dial alone, it took 120 hours of painstaking, meticulous work to set the 241 baguette-cut diamonds. That’s almost three weeks of full-time work! Then came the task of setting the 60 additional diamonds around the bezel.

The 42-mm case is set with 94 baguette-cut diamonds and contains the HUB1710 calibre, which is visible from the back of the watch through the sapphire glass. The self-winding movement oscillates at a frequency of 4 Hz (or 28,800 alterations per hour), offering a power reserve of no fewer than 50 hours.

Of course, watchmaking of this quality must be perfect in every detail: even the black rubber-lined alligator strap features a deployant buckle adorned with 36 baguette-cut diamonds.

All in all, it takes over 200 hours to set all the 431 diamonds that grace this exceptional piece of high jewellery, the perfect fusion of watchmaking excellence and jewellery artisanship.

“This wonderfully radiant piece celebrates and icon of the maison. The jeweller’s artistic creativity and our watchmaking expertise intertwine to create a work of art that is both a watch and a jewel!” – RICARDO GUADALUPE, HUBLOT CEO

ZENITH ADDS CHRONOMASTER SPORT LINE IN STEEL WITH A METALLIC BLUE DIAL

Blue like the vast night sky and all the stars and aspirations it holds. ZENITH is now adding its signature colour to the dial of its most popular modern El Primero chronograph, the Chronomaster Sport. More than just a dial change however, the newest version of the Chronomaster Sport also takes a page from the “DeLuca” and “Rainbow” references of the 1980s and 1990s with a blue dial and polished steel bezel.

Winner of the 2021 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève “Chronograph” prize, the Chronomaster Sport is the culmination of ZENITH’s unrivaled legacy in crafting automatic high-frequency chronographs. Pushing the boundaries of high-frequency precision, it features a 1/10th of a second chronograph function, with the elapsed time graduated over 10 seconds on the bezel. Sporty, contemporary and unmistakably a ZENITH El Primero, the Chronomaster Sport now comes in an all-steel exterior with a striking blue tricolour dial.

Featuring elements inspired by the most emblematic El Primero references and even ZENITH chronograph references produced before the calibre’s introduction in 1969, the Chronomaster Sport with blue dial heavily draws inspiration from two particular El Primero references: the “DeLuca” from the late 1980s and the “Rainbow” of the early 1990s. For the first time in the Chronomaster Sport steel core collection, the engraved 1/10 th of a second bezel on top of the 41mm steel case with pump-style pushers is crafted in stainless steel instead of ceramic. With its polished surface and black filled engraved markers, it takes on a decidedly retro look, recalling those older El Primero models. The three-link steel bracelet with adjustable clasp completes the sporty-chic look.

Metallic blue with a sunburst finish, the dial of the newest Chronomaster Sport masterfully blends contrasts, textures and depths. And yet, it is not out of historical context. Both the DeLuca and Rainbow were made with blue dial options. One of the most iconic El Primero design features – the tricolour dial – is highlighted in a new context. The chronograph counters in shades of grey and blue are as outstanding as ever, with a difference in tone and finish between the blue counter and the blue dial. The date wheel has also been matched to the dial.

The Chronomaster Sport in steel with blue dial joins the core collection and is available at ZENITH boutiques as well as authorized ZENITH retailers around the world.

Girard-Perregaux Neo Constant Escapement – The Master of Energy

Neo Constant Escapement

In 2013, Girard-Perregaux released the Constant Escapement L.M. to critical acclaim and won the ‘Aiguille D’Or’ at the GPHG (Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève) in the same year. The model included a constant force escapement, a mechanism that delivered remarkable rate stability irrespective of the available energy.

The Neo Constant Escapement is the latest evolution of the Maison’s groundbreaking approach to master energy, incorporating an array of aesthetic and technical advancements. While it took 250 years to develop the Swiss lever escapement, Girard-Perregaux perfected its Constant Escapement in just 20 years, a testament to its inventive spirit. Moreover, this new timepiece upholds Constant Girard’s original idea of showcasing the beauty of functional elements, but expressed in a contemporary way.

A new expression of fine watchmaking

The Neo Constant Escapement wholeheartedly embraces avant-garde styling, forgoing a conventional dial in order to reveal an array of components usually hidden from view. On one hand, this latest addition to the Bridges collection is ultra-modern while on the other hand it is inspired by a prize-wining pocket watch created by Constant Girard in 1867. This won a first-class prize at the Neuchâtel Observatory in the same year and its precision remained unequalled for 17 years. Moreover, this watch, subsequently housed in gold, won a gold medal at the Universal exhibition in Paris. Constant’s pocket watch famously transformed three bridges from being merely functional components into artistic elements, a design philosophy that has also been applied to the Neo Constant Escapement.

Building on the success of the Constant Escapement L.M

After several years of research, Girard-Perregaux unveiled a concept watch in 2008 that incorporated a unique silicium blade. This know-how was perfected over the years and a production version of the watch, the Constant Escapement L.M., was released in 2013. It won the prestigious prize ‘Aiguille D’Or’ at the GPHG (Grand Prix d’Horologerie de Genève) in the same year.

The Neo Constant Escapement is an evolution of this former model, incorporating several new technologies. Indeed, 30% of the patents employed on this latest model, 13 in total, are new. The new movement features fewer components than the 2013 model (266 compared with 280 parts previously), a clear example of optimisation over complexity.

Constant force

A problem that afflicts most watches is that when fully wound the force from the spring barrel, ultimately serving the regulating organ, is excessive. This potentially impairs precision and can cause harm to the movement. Conversely, as the energy within the barrel diminishes, prior to the point of total exhaustion, the regulating organ receives insufficient force that again impairs precision.

The Constant Escapement addresses such problems, providing a uniform supply of force to the regulating organ and, by default, extraordinary rate stability. Moreover, the watch is a certified chronometer (COSC), providing independent assurance of its timekeeping prowess. This is reminiscent of when the Manufacture submitted its pocket watches for chronometer testing in the 1860s and won the Neuchâtel Observatory Centenary Prize.

Product highlights

The Neo Constant Escapement proffers an array of features and attributes:

  • The escapement, the mechanism that controls the flow of time, is a unique design based on the elastic and bi-stable properties of a buckling silicium blade. This component delivers a linear supply of force to the balance irrespective of the available energy within the twin barrels.
  • The silicium escapement spring, with an ultra-fine buckling blade at its centre, is made in a laboratory setting using a technique called ‘photolithography’. This elaborate process has allowed Girard-Perregaux to create intricately shaped components not achievable using traditional milling or stamping techniques. In this instance, Girard-Perregaux has exploited the high elasticity of silicium, the only material that allows the blade to repeatedly buckle and, in so doing, serve the balance with a constant force.
  • The escapement spring is 120 microns thick, while the blade is a mere 14 microns wide. By comparison, a human hair is typically 50 – 90 microns in thickness.
  • The ultra-fine silicium blade buckles back and forth, serving the regulating organ with a uniform pulse of energy. The silicium escape spring, with its buckling blade positioned centre stage, is formed of a single piece of silicium. Beyond its functional role, this component is instantly recognisable and its symmetrical appearance resonates with Girard-Perregaux, a Maison synonymous with the Laureato’s octagonal shaped bezel and the legendary Bridges.
  • The Neo Constant Escapement is a certified chronometer (COSC).
  • The movement, the Calibre GP09200, has a linear power supply of at least 7 days, courtesy of twin barrels.
  • The model is housed in a 45mm case formed of Grade 5 titanium.
  • The dial sits beneath a sapphire crystal ‘box’, a feature that invites light to flood the display while granting lateral views of various dial elements.
  • Skeletonised dauphine-style hour and minute hands, featuring rhodium treatment, articulate the prevailing time and, courtesy of luminescent material, remain visible in restricted light.
  • A black track, positioned on the flange, is endowed with white markings and incorporates prominent, luminescent hour markers that arc outwards, seemingly floating above the main dial area.
  • The Neo Constant Escapement is fitted with a fabric effect rubber strap secured with a titanium triple folding buckle incorporating a micro adjustment system, allowing the wearer to fine-tune the strap for the optimum wrist fit.

The relentless quest for advancement

The Neo Constant Escapement incorporates numerous examples of the Maison’s inventive spirit, manifest with the model’s 13 patents. It incorporates fine materials, neoteric styling and ultra-refined finishing, inspired by Haute Horlogerie. The watch goes on sale in January 2024 and will be available worldwide in all authorised Girard-Perregaux retailers. However, by virtue of its protracted creation, the Neo Constant Escapement will be produced in limited quantities, conferring a notable degree of exclusivity.

About Girard-Perregaux

Since 1791, Girard-Perregaux has been embracing the rhythm of ever-elusive time. Cradled in the Jura mountains in the heart of La Chaux-de-Fonds, it is a pioneer in the world of Haute Horlogerie: an independent Manufacture which has retained this status for over two centuries, successfully keeping all production in-house and passing down exceptional horological skills throughout the generations. The preservation of this savoir-faire, along with a sincere passion for beauty and for the art itself, has remained the key to Girard-Perregaux’s ability to continuously innovate.

Always seeking the perfect balance of beauty and functionality, fans of fine watchmaking will instantly recognise the house signatures, such as the iconic octagonal bezel of the Laureato and the legendary Tourbillon with ‘Three Gold Bridges’. From seeking to create industry references in timepieces to making the invisible visible through the art of precision engineering, Girard-Perregaux never ceases to change the course of time via pieces that are the first of their kind. This place at the vanguard of horological innovation is solidified by over one hundred recorded patents for original designs, like the movement of three arrow-shaped bridges, registered in the USA in 1884, as well as prizes like the ’Aiguille d’Or’ in 2013 and distinctions like the Gold Medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1889.

Rooted in its heritage, Girard-Perregaux is driven by the instinct to always look ahead, embracing new technologies, utilising state-of-the-art materials, and finding inventive ways to bring joy by reimagining iconic shapes. To this end, Girard-Perregaux has remained a human-sized Manufacture, and in 2022 became part of an independent collective of Haute Horlogerie Manufactures alongside sister Maison Ulysse Nardin.

Every timepiece produced is conceptualized, developed and hand-assembled in its own facilities in Switzerland – with many watches powered by CFB’s own movements, all designed and built entirely in-house. The brand is also the market leader in peripheral technology, having patented not only a peripheral winding system but a ‘floating tourbillon’ in a peripherally supported cage and a peripherally guided minute repeater regulator.

Since the very start, CFB has adopted an international mindset and a forward-looking attitude, exploring time through the perspectives of watch aficionados everywhere. Today, it showcases its expertise, refined over generations, with a major retail presence spanning four continents. This global network continually reminds the world what remains so special about the craft of Swiss watchmaking.

TRILOBE Nuit Fantastique

A bridge between tradition and modernity

Trilobe unveils Nuit Fantastique, Guilloche Edition: a timepiece that subtly blends heritage and innovation. This creation, a fine line between rupture and continuity, combines a contemporary design with traditional watchmaking know-how. At the heart of this new creation, and for the first time on a Maison Trilobe model, is a guilloché technique known as “Barley Grain“, which is the aesthetic focus of the piece. The design of this ancient motif has been reworked exclusively for this new edition, in alignment with Maison Trilobe eccentric displays.

When opposites meet: a creation marked b y duality. The ambivalence of this piece is conveyed through the relief of the dial, which unites two traditional decorative watchmaking techniques. The Clous de Paris guilloche, with its incisive rectilinear pattern, contrasts with the spheres of the Grain d’Orge guilloche, formed by interlaced curves. The Grain d’Orge guilloche takes as its starting point the center of the minute window and highlights the Trilobe time display. Trilobe called on a guilloche craftsman to shape the intricate Grain d’Orge pattern on the fixed part of the dial.

A veil be tween light and dark:“On Nuit Fantastique Brume”, the fixed part of the dial and the hour ring feature an ambiguous shade between gray and brown that oscillates with light. Just like ”mist”, the English translation of the name of this model, the classic hue evokes infinite timelessness. Subtlety shines through the pigment, adding to the refinement of our Maison’s latest creation.

A new interpretation of time signed by Trilobe: Drawing inspiration from the minimalist design of the Nuit Fantastique collection, the elegant guilloche and grained dial is a major technical achievement that emphasizes the watch’s elegance. It defies the laws of symmetry; made up of four parts, three of them permanently rotate: the largest wheel for the hours; the minutes wheel that appears within an aperture and the seconds wheel, which alternates between a “Clous de Paris” centre and an azured ring.

A piece signed “Paris-France”: Nuit Fantastique Brume is equipped with the X-Centric calibre, an automatic movement designed and developed exclusively by Trilobe. For the first time, it bears the words “Paris – France“, a symbol of the development of our Maison, which recently inaugurated its own watchmaking workshop in Paris. In this workshop, our expert watchmakers carry out the final stages of manufacturing Trilobe timepieces. Each piece is entirely assembled and cased-up by a watchmaker, who works with rigor and precision to guarantee an impeccable finish, in line with the Maison’s high standards.

ZENITH UNVEILS THE CHRONOMASTER ORIGINAL

TRICOLOUR TO THE CORE: ZENITH UNVEILS THE CHRONOMASTER ORIGINAL WITH A BLACK TRICOLOUR DIAL

The modern successor to the ZENITH A386, one of the first round-cased steel El Primero reference from 1969, the Chronomaster Original now reinterprets the iconic tricolour dial in black – a first for the historical 1969 case. Equipped with the latest generation of the El Primero high-frequency automatic chronograph calibre that features a 1/10th of a second chronograph function, the Chronomaster Original with black tricolour dial stands out as a thoroughly contemporary take on one of the most emblematic El Primero references.

In the newest addition to the Chronomaster Original line, one of the most distinctively El Primero design elements is inverted: the traditionally creamy-white dial bearing three counters in shades of grey and blue is rendered black for a more dramatic look. It marks the first time that a black tricolour dial appears in the 38mm steel case originally designed for the A386 in 1969. Much like the Chronomaster Sport line, which features both white and black tricolour dials, the Chronomaster Original line is now completed with a historical white tricolour dial and a bolder, more modern black tricolour dial. By making the base black, the other elements also had to be inverted form white to black and vice-versa, including the date wheel in the trapezoid window at 04:30, as well as the 1/10th of a second and 10-second chronograph scales.

Without disrupting the unique aesthetic of the A386 and its multiple scales, the Chronomaster Original perfectly integrates a 1/10th of a second chronograph into the design. Truly like no other chronograph, the Chronomaster Original features a central red chronograph second hand that completes one rotation of the dial in 10 seconds. The chronograph hand steadily advances every 1/10th of a second, allowing for intuitive fractional time measurement.

Sharing the same overall silhouette and proportions as its historical predecessor from 1969, the Chronomaster Original is crafted in a 38mm round bezel-less steel case with a raised and domed crystal. The pump-style chronograph pushers, the faceted lugs and the mix of radial brushed and polished surfaces throughout are indistinguishable between the past and present models. The steel bracelet has also been redesigned, replacing the open “ladder” design of 1969 with solid links.

After over 50 years since changing the trajectory of mechanical chronographs forever, ZENITH continues to develop and evolve the El Primero calibre into new iterations that push the limits of performance. It remains the benchmark of precision among automatic chronograph movements. The Chronomaster Original is equipped with the latest version of the El Primero calibre, dubbed the El Primero 3600.

The Chronomaster Original with black tricolour dial joins the line as a permanent part of the collection, available at ZENITH boutiques and authorized retailers around the world.

MP-15 TAKASHI MURAKAMI TOURBILLON ONLY WATCH A UNIQUE PIECE AND HUBLOT’S FIRST CENTRAL FLYING TOURBILLON

A UNIQUE PIECE AND HUBLOT’S FIRST CENTRAL FLYING TOURBILLON

“Only Watch was created in 2005 and our manufacture was founded just four years later, in 2009. We are both of the same generation. We have grown very quickly and have pushed the boundaries in our respective fields: Hublot in High Watchmaking and Only Watch in philanthropy. Whenever Only Watch founder Luc Pettavino needs us, we will be there. Hublot has never shirked its moral and social obligations, nor will it ever do so.”

Ricardo Guadalupe HUBLOT CEO

The central tourbillon could be interpreted as Hublot’s intention to put Haute Horlogerie back in the spotlight. Or, its round case might be seen to resemble a child’s drawing of a 12-petalled daisy, tipped with green as a sign of hope. Either way,the strength of the MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon Only Watch lies in the fact that everyone will see it as symbolic of what they value. It will blossom around as many values as there are colours, whether these are high-tech, exquisite, playful, unique, hypnotic… Haute Horlogerie meets Haute Joaillerie on this highly creative timepiece inspired by Takashi Murakami’s iconic smiling flower.

Floral composition is central to the work of Takashi Murakami. This Japanese artist has risen from humble origins to become one of the most sought-after artists in the world, and he has been a Friend of Hublot since 2020. These co-creations have always been produced in limited-edition series. This timepiece is even more limited – it is truly unique. Unique in its nature (only one piece has been created), but also in its construction. What sets the MP-15 apart from any other piece that the manufacture has ever created in its forty-plus years of experience, is its central tourbillon.

Hublot’s first central tourbillon

This central tourbillon represents the fusion of art and horological design. An idea that is echoed by Hublot’s dedication to Haute Horlogerie and by the world of Takashi Murakami. The idea is certainly to have Haute Horlogerie take centre stage physically, but not only that. The idea is also to show that the tourbillon – the beating heart of the watch – represents the heart of the person who buys it at the auction in aid of research against Duchenne’s disease, and also the hearts of those children fighting the disease.

Imagining this piece, Takashi Murakami explicitly requested the inclusion of a central tourbillon. A challenge in and of itself, this would become Hublot’s very first central tourbillon. This was a difficult challenge because, it becomes very complicated to indicate the hours and minutes which compete for the same central position. By accepting Takashi Murakami’s challenge, Hublot would have to make the right choices in order to integrate the aesthetic components of the central tourbillon to the technical requirements.

In this design, the cannon pinion and the hour wheel had to be pivoted around the tourbillon support by creating a co-axial construction. This was made possible thanks to the central flying tourbillon that is seemingly suspended in mid-air with two hands passing under its cage to indicate the hours and minutes. These hands gravitate towards 12 luminescent indices that echo the colours of the 2023 edition of the Hublot for Only Watch, as well as keeping the exact proportions required by the design so dear to Murakami, and which Hublot R&D had to follow to the letter.

Thanks to its two barrels, the manual movement offers a 150-hour power reserve (almost a whole week) – a very rare feature for such a construction. Mounted in series but on a single plane, these generously proportioned barrels can be admired through the case back which is made entirely from sapphire.

Superflat Floral Poetry

From the tourbillon and the indices to the petals, fans of Takashi Murakami’s colourful poetry will follow his rhythm on this MP-15, from the interior to the exterior, where 12 petals richly set with 444 gemstones give the piece a bright, joyful aesthetic. Like a real flower, these petals are angled towards the centre of the movement. The clear and bold demarcations of colour are representative of the 2023 Only Watch. The idea was not to offer a traditional rainbow gradient effect, but rather to play with the brightness of the shades and the brilliance of the gemstones, like a child playing with their crayons, creating a bright piece of Superflat Art for the wrist.

But that is not all: true to Murakami’s universe, under its domed sapphire crystal this MP-15 Only Watch reveals a fine laser engraving depicting a broad smile, complete with two smiling eyes. This colourful piece offers an escape into Takashi Murakami’s lively imagination, and the watch’s bright energy is an ode to the incredible power of a child’s wonder and their endless curiosity.

Collector’s item: unique calligraphy created by Takashi Murakami’s own hand

With its MP-15, Takashi Murakami has created the ultimate gift for anyone purchasing it. And who better to explain it than Takashi Murakami himself? “I decided to pick up calligraphy again. My mother used to love it and I took many classes in this art from the age of five to seventeen. I progressed to a very high level, attaining the 7th dan, which is equivalent to assistant instructor. When I went to art school, my calligraphy practice became more sporadic. But my mother brought it up whenever I spoke to her! So, I decided to return to it, working directly on my used coffee filter paper, which is a very good base for the ink. This enabled me to create unique calligraphy, “Time of Rainbow”, inspired by the unique watch I have designed with Hublot for Only Watch 2023.”

A TRILOGY OF UNIQUE MINUTE REPEATERS BY CARL F. BUCHERER

SUPREME RARITY TO MARK THE PASSAGE OF TIME: A TRILOGY OF UNIQUE MINUTE REPEATERS PAYING TRIBUTE TO THE RICH HISTORY OF  ON ITS 135TH ANNIVERSARY.

The Manero Minute Repeater Anniversary is quite simply the pinnacle of CFB’s watchmaking prowess and a powerful expression of the company’s rich history, engineering talent and pioneering spirit. Equally technically ambitious and aesthetically exacting, this trio of watches epitomizes how CFB ’s watchmaking skills and ability have been refined since 1888.

Each watch, limited to one piece only, features CFB’s three highest complications, all peripherally mounted: an automatic winding system, “floating” tourbillon and minute repeater regulator – which controls the speed at which hammers strike melodic gongs to tell the time with sound. Entirely designed, developed and manufactured in-house, the movement took six years to perfect and consists of 617 individual parts.

From a creative perspective, each watch is also one of a kind, demonstrating the highest quality materials and decorative competencies of the in-house artisans, expressed in three dramatically contrasting appearances. As such, they evoke the progressive attitude of a wholly family-owned business that, over three generations and 135 years, has continually pushed the boundaries of watchmaking.

Classical elegance, ultimate precision

The first in the Manero Minute Repeater Anniversary trilogy presents the stunning intricacy of an 18K gold dial finished in a moss green guilloche, hand- milled by experienced artisans using a 200-year-old lathe. It comes in an 18K yellow gold case and is complemented by gold index marks and a matching moss green nubuck leather strap. The result is arguably the most classic watch in the collection, exuding stately, sophisticated elegance.

Contemporary style, flawless details

The second in the series showcases an 18K white gold dial overlaid with light blue mother-of-pearl, the color exactly matching 40 ice blue, baguette-cut sapphires arranged around the bezel – all contained in an 18K white gold case. The dial finish uses naturally occurring white mother-of-pearl – the rarest form – which has been delicately hand-painted from the rear to preserve its translucent and luminous qualities. All the sapphires, chosen for their brilliance and purity, are naturally occurring and naturally colored – that they all match perfectly in cut, color, clarity and luster is itself an exquisite achievement. A hybrid rubber strap helps convey a distinct contemporary style.

Celebratory panache, beautifully colorful

The final watch in the trilogy is characterized by a cascade of color – an 18K rose gold case is framed by a full-spectrum bezel containing 40 baguette-cut gemstones including tsavorites, sapphires and rubies. Again, these naturally occurring, naturally colored gemstones were all chosen for their brilliance, purity and cut. Here, the challenge was to ensure the smoothest transition between colors to create an incredible rainbow effect, and to ensure the gemstone index marks match perfectly with the corresponding gemstone on the bezel. A black sunray dial and hybrid rubber strap make the colors shine in an unashamedly bold, free-spirited and celebratory design.

Collectively, these three timepieces characterize CFB’s exceptional technical proficiency, refined over generations, as well as its evolving sense of style. The trilogy is just as representative of the brand’s origins in 1888 as it is with the ever- more colorful, genderless collection of 2023 that is redefining CBF for a new generation of watch aficionados.

CFB’s most complex movement

At the heart of all three watches is the impressive CFB MR3000 caliber movement. Each one takes the most experienced watchmakers many weeks to assemble, complicated by the fact that assembly itself can distort its delicate parts. The 33- jewel movement was patented in 2021 and is a COSC-certified chronometer.

It owes its complexity to three peripherally mounted technologies: these minimize the thickness of CFB’s watch cases, despite the additional complications, and maximize the view of the movement through case backs.

First is an automatic winding system, featuring a bi-directional oscillating, 18K gold weight. Next comes a “floating” tourbillon cage, neither mounted in the movement’s main plate nor attached to overlying bridges but supported peripherally and appearing to float in space. CFB’s tourbillons are displayed in a distinctive style at 12 o’clock, rather than 6 o’clock.

Finally, a peripherally mounted minute repeater regulator controls when hammers strike two gongs to sound hours, quarter hours and minutes. Unlike most such mechanisms, CFB’s components are visible in the dial: the regulator at 6 o’clock; the hammers at the base; and the circular gongs running around the inside edge of the case. Arranging these components in such a fashion was both a bold design decision and a feat of micro-engineering – not least as the company’s designers and watchmakers had to work closely with acoustic specialists to ensure the case and gongs formed the perfect sound chamber. One final detail: a space between the gongs can be engraved, perhaps to signify how the wearer intends to enjoy #ExploringTime.

ZENITH LAUNCHES NEW DEFY SKYLINE SKELETON BOUTIQUE EDITION WITH TOUCHES OF GLEAMING GOLD

Expanding on the DEFY Skyline Skeleton that made its debut at the start of the year, ZENITH adds contrasting tones of grey and gold for the Boutique Edition of the world’s first and only skeleton watch to feature a 1/10th of a second indicator.

Far more than an open-worked watch, the DEFY Skyline Skeleton brings forth an entirely new design language to the world of skeleton watches. Keeping with the enduring DEFY legacy of sturdy and singularly futuristic timekeepers that began in 1969, the DEFY Skyline collection was conceived for an ever-fast-moving world where every fraction of a second can be a decisive one. Now, the DEFY Skyline Skeleton takes on a new chromatic palette of grey and silver with golden highlights as a boutique-exclusive edition.

Drawing inspiration from modern cityscapes where structures and light are bound in a constantly moving interplay, the DEFY Skyline Skeleton seamlessly integrates the open dial with an openworked version of the El Primero high-frequency automatic. A work of perfect symmetry seldom found in skeleton watches, the open dial takes on the form of a four-pointed stars, recalling the ZENITH “double Z” logo of the 1960s. For the Boutique Edition, the dial takes on a silvery-grey colour, with a darker chapter ring featuring applied gold-plated baton hour markers filled with Super-LumiNova and matching hands for effortless legibility. A constantly running 1/10th of a second counter at 6 o’clock makes steady jumps in fixed increments, completing one revolution every 10 seconds. This unprecedented feature is unique to the new generation of the El Primero automatic high-frequency calibre.

An evolution of the unique octagonal geometry established by the earliest DEFY wristwatch models of the 1960s, the angular steel case of the DEFY Skyline Skeleton retains the same DNA of robustness and durability as its predecessors while bringing an edgier and more architectural aesthetic. The 41mm stainless steel case with sharply defined edges is topped by a faceted bezel, inspired by those from early DEFY models and reimagined with twelve sides that are positioned as extensions to the hour markers. With an emphasis on performance in the largest possible range of activities and situations, the screw-down crown emblazoned with the star emblem provides a water-resistance of 10 ATM (100 metres).

Visible through the open dial as well as the sapphire display back is the openworked version of the high-frequency automatic El Primero calibre, the 3620 SK. Built with a similar architecture as the El Primero 3600 1/10th of a second chronograph, this automatic manufacture movement drives the 1/10th of a second hand directly from the escapement, which beats at 5Hz (36’000 VpH), thus making it a “natural” fraction-of-a-second indication. It is also endowed with a stop-second mechanism for precise time-setting. Efficient in its performance, the automatic winding mechanism with bi-directional rotor with a star motif delivers a power reserve of approximately 55 hours. For the Boutique edition of the DEFY Skyline Skeleton, the movement is finished in a luminous rhodium grey tone.

The spirit of HUBLOT; the embodiment of Sang Bleu.

For the 7th year and third collaboration with Hublot, Maxime Plescia-Buchi is channelling the Spirit of Big Bang through the Sang Bleu prism. Just as his tattoos create new identity, revealing new shapes and new perspectives, the celebrated typographer, tattooist, artist and founder of Sang Bleu injects a new spirit into the Spirit of Big Bang collection. The Spirit of Big Bang Sang Bleu stays true to the series’ characteristics while remaining highly distinctive. With a faceted, structured 42 mm diameter, this watch has an enhanced three-dimensional and ergonomically-enhanced design. There are three limited editions to adorn your wrist – 200 units in titanium, 200 in All Black ceramic and 100 in King Gold. In addition, two models are set with 180 diamonds in titanium and King Gold.

Launched in 2014, the Spirit of Big Bang retained all of the Big Bang’s original features in a barrel-shaped case. A reinterpretation of Hublot’s DNA, simultaneously identical yet so different. For this third collaboration, Maxime has infused it with a new spirit without changing its soul, introducing the Spirit of Big Bang Sang Bleu. He achieves this same transformation, injecting the concepts of the Big Bang Sang Bleu I & II, by redefining the lines of the Spirit of Big Bang. Without losing what makes our barrel watch so distinctive, he gives it a new identity, a spatial redesign and a more architectural dimension, revealed by the Sang Bleu geometry and symmetry. A fusion that exceeds perfection. The symbol of a collaboration that highlights the best features and unique potential of each design. In our watches and in our collaborations, one philosophy underscores the vision of everything we do: to adapt to the container while always focusing on the quality of the content. – RICARDO GUADALUPE, HUBLOT CEO

Identical or different? Both… But always unique!

Ensuring consistency while remaining innovative. Keeping the spirit while creating a unique, exclusive and distinctive object. This is the subtlety of the art behind the Hublot and Maxime Plescia-Buchi collaboration. The talented tattoo artist has reimagined the strokes of the Spirit of Big Bang with stretched, elongated bevelled features and measured, perfectly proportioned angles that fit together to create a timepiece where the Sang Bleu signature is instantly recognisable. Like each of his tattoos, the line adapts to the case, to its distinctive characteristics, reliefs, curves, and texture, while retaining what is essential: its spirit. This is the same philosophy that inspired the Spirit of Big Bang.

Hublot x Sang Bleu: Seven years of artistic and creative collaboration

First introduced in the 2016 Hublot – Sang Bleu series, 2023 saw the third edition unveiled at the Salone del Mobile in Milan. The tattoo artist has stamped his indelible, distinctive, and assertive line on a new collection. After the Big Bang, his signature now adorns the Spirit of Big Bang. As usual, he traces his three-dimensional geometry in perfect symmetry with a mysteriously magnetic architecture, playing with relief and depth through polished, satin finished, engraved, chiselled, bevelled and faceted materials. Hexagons, diamonds and triangles appear and overlap, redefining shapes and volumes line by line.

My collaboration with Hublot is like constructing a house, an architectural project in itself. The Spirit of Big Bang Sang Bleu is the third wall of this shared structure. It signifies a landmark, as the house we are building now stands firmly and coherently in its own right. After having made my mark on the Big Bang, my creative process has taken on a new form. This is the new collection, and the barrel shape of the Spirit of Big Bang. I have been able to question and review each component, from the case to the crystal, the bracelet to the clasp, considering each shape and proportion through a holistic reflection. The aim is to incorporate the DNA of the Big Bang Sang Bleu II into the Spirit of Big Bang Sang Bleu. The result is a similar geometric aesthetic with a new interpretation of shapes and volumes. This creation is guided by perfectly proportioned shapes that interact and overlap to create a unique, distinctive design while enhancing the ergonomics for the wearer. – MAXIME PLESCIA-BUCHI, SANG BLEU FOUNDER, HUBLOT AMBASSADOR

The result: The Spirit of Big Bang Sang Bleu

A 42 mm-diameter case, crafted in a choice of three materials: Titanium (200 units), All Black ceramic (200 units) or King Gold (100 units), as well as two models set with 180 diamonds weighing approximately 2.4 carats, in titanium and King Gold. Geometric tattoos alternate and overlap from the case to the bezel. A sapphire dial displays the HUB4700 automatic skeleton chronograph movement through disc hands bearing the characteristic geometry of timepieces made in collaboration with Sang Bleu. A watch that, even with its ultra-generous proportions and prominent shape, offers a perfect ergonomic fit across all wrist sizes, for both men and women, with or without a bezel. The geometry of the Big Bang Sang Bleu II has been retained while also optimising the dynamic nature of the barrel shape. In terms of design, to ensure that the watch perfectly fits the curves of the wrist and is flush with the body, the back of the case and the sapphire crystal have been arched at several points. In terms of dial legibility, the structure of the hands has been enhanced and the hour and minute markers have been refined. By transposing his line onto a different volume, the barrel shape of the Spirit of Big Bang, Maxime has given new perspective to each component, shape and proportion. It is these details that give the Spirit of Big Bang a new dimension, just as Hublot gave a new spirit to the Big Bang codes by unveiling the Spirit of Big Bang in its barrel shape back in 2014.

Hublot – Sang Bleu – Trilogy

Hublot & Maxime Plescia-Buchi have art in their blood and are “inking” the art of tattooing into watchmaking. In 2016, the first Big Bang Sang Bleu saw the three-dimensional geometry of the famous tattoo artist imprinted on its design, revealing a perfectly proportioned structure inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man. This quest for perfection and the use of symbols is the hallmark of all of Sang Bleu’s creative work. In 2019, with the Sang Bleu II, the tattoo artist x watchmaker collaboration was expressed as a “full body” tattoo across the entire Big Bang model, including the case, the hexagonal bezel, the sapphire crystal, the hands, and the bracelet. A three-dimensional style that has been entirely revamped in 2023 to embody a new “tattooed” collection – the Spirit of Big Bang. In perfect fusion with the way Hublot launched the Spirit of Big Bang in 2014, incorporating Hublot’s DNA and the distinctive codes of the Big Bang (its 6 H-shaped titanium screws running through the watch bezel, sandwich construction with endless combinations of materials and colours, signature lugs on each side of the case, and a screwed crown over moulded with rubber), Maxime has revisited each component of the Spirit of Big Bang.

Laureato Green Ceramic Aston Martin Edition by Girard-Perregaux

Girard-Perregaux unveils the Laureato Green Ceramic Aston Martin Edition, the first time a Laureato has featured a green ceramic case and bracelet. This is the latest collaboration between the Swiss Maison and the British marque, two companies that have designed products that have stood the test of time. While some of the materials used for these new co-branded watches may be ultra-modern, the essence of the inaugural Laureato has been respected. Offered in a choice of two case sizes (42mm and 38mm), each reference is a limited edition and thereby destined to remain a rare sight.

A productive relationship

Some of the finest luxury products are crafted with time-served hands. These scarce human skills, often amassed over many years, imbue an item with a distinctive character and an enduring quality. Such products are created free of concessions, using the finest components and they inevitably take an inordinate amount of time to make.

Both Aston Martin and Girard-Perregaux operate within this rarefied world of excellence, constructing rare objects that confer lasting appeal. In 2021, these two prestigious marques entered into a multi-year collaboration agreement and have since created a number of limited-edition, co- branded products.

British Racing Green

In 1900, a race took place in France, the Gordon Bennett Cup. Cars would negotiate public roads between Paris and Lyon. Initially, various colours were assigned to cars based on the nationality of the driver, however, this would subsequently change and eventually the hue of the car‘s bodywork was determined by the nationality of the racing team. As a result, French cars were presented in blue, Italian cars were red, Belgian cars were yellow, German cars were white/silver and British cars were dressed in green. This latter hue has since graced many British race cars and is now employed on present-day Aston Martin cars. It therefore seemed logical that a co-branded model should be dressed in green, a colour that evokes thoughts of performance and success.

Technical ceramic, a complex attire

Launched in 1975, the first Laureato featured an octagonal bezel that sat atop a circular plinth which in turn was positioned above an angular tonneau-shaped case. The new Laureato Green Ceramic Aston Martin Edition respects these timeless elements but employs ultra-modern ceramic for the bracelet and case. This lightweight material comprises zirconium oxide and metallic oxides (the latter imbues the material with its distinctive green hue). The zirconium oxide selected by Girard-Perregaux is composed of an extremely fine powder, made of micro-beads, each measuring mere fractions of a micron in diameter (1 micron ( ) = 0.01mm). By using this specific grade of micro-bead, the structure of the bracelet and case exhibit a notably homogenous appearance. This latter attribute allows the craftspeople at Girard-Perregaux to finish the ceramic components with a combination of polished and satin finished surfaces, an endearing characteristic common to all Laureato models.

The green ceramic components are particularly hard, up to seven times harder than steel, delivering incredible scratch resistance, a quality that will ensure the watch retains its showroom-fresh appearance for years to come. Another attribute of the green ceramic components is that they will never age or fade with the passage of time. Furthermore, ceramic is unaffected by changes in ambient temperature, it’s light, hypoallergenic and proves remarkably smooth, all factors that deliver extraordinary wearer comfort.

A shared philosophy

Sleek, contemporary and notably elegant, the design of the Laureato Green Ceramic Aston Martin Edition encompasses some elements inspired by Aston Martin cars. Powerful engines, sleek contours and lightweight construction are virtues synonymous with the British firm’s products. It is this latter trait which encouraged Girard-Perregaux to equip this new model with skeletonised ‘baton’ type hour and minute hands, both light and functional. The watch dial is presented in a cross-hatch design, a diamond-like pattern found on the ‘AM’ logo (1921-1926) as well as the quilted seats found in some of the car marque’s high-performance vehicles.

The timeless design of the Laureato has attracted the admiration of enlightened commentators and watch aficionados alike. Likewise, Aston Martin has repeatedly shown its prowess for sculpting iconic shapes that have never lost their eye-appeal. Whether it’s a DB4 of the early 60s, a DBS V8 of the 70s or a modern-day Vantage, all models share the same attributes of elegance, quality and performance.

Patrick Pruniaux, CEO of Girard-Perregaux, remarked “From the outset, the design of the Laureato was distinctive, yet cohesive. Its styling encompassed geometric, clean-cut lines while exhibiting a slightly gentle character. Contrasting polished and satin finished surfaces, an ergonomic integrated bracelet and, of course, as always, an in-house movement… these are the essential ingredients which have made the Laureato a remarkable success. The same ingredients are much in evidence with the new Laureato Green Ceramic Aston Martin Edition along with the addition of an interesting, highly contemporary material.”

Marek Reichman, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, Aston Martin Lagonda, added: “Our goal was to conceive an advanced luxury product. Patrick and I spent a lot of time talking about the folklore of the Laureato and the design play between shape and proportion of its iconic bezel. When he shared GP‘s exploration into the optical properties of technical ceramics, micro beads and microns, I became quite enchanted by this idea of the past becoming the future. We‘re always exploring combinations of technology, colour, and materials in Aston Martin sports cars to enrich performance, functionality and owner enjoyment. Together we’ve fused these ideas and attributes to generate this cool new Laureato Green Ceramic Aston Martin Edition”.

Behind the green

Both versions of the Laureato Green Ceramic Aston Martin Edition are housed in a slender case. The 42mm model is fitted with the Calibre GP01800, while the 38mm version is equipped with the Calibre GP03300. Both in-house movements are self-winding and can be admired though a see-through case- back, personalised with the Aston Martin logo.

Consistent with the Maison‘s reputation for making wonderful expressions of Haute Horlogerie, each movement is beautif ully appointed. Circular graining features on the main plate, while other components are endowed with bevelling, mirror-polishing, satin finish, snailing, sunray finish and various engravings. The bridges are decorated with straight Côtes de Genève and the oscillating weight is embellished with circular Côtes de Genève. Lastly, the movements have a power reserve of at least 46 hours (38mm) and 54 hours (42mm).

The Laureato Green Ceramic Aston Martin Edition (42 mm & 38 mm) will go on sale in June 2023 and will be available worldwide in selected Girard-Perregaux retailers.

Watches and Wonders opens its doors to the public and launches In the City!

Geneva, 17 January 2023, From 27 March to 2 April, the heart of Geneva will beat to watchmaking rhythms. The Salon will open its doors to the general public over a weekend. Visitors will therefore be able to discover the wonders that the 48 watch brands and manufacturers will be unveiling and dive into the world of exceptional watches. For the first time this year, Watches and Wonders will also take place ‘In the City’. Watchmaking Boutiques are already preparing for this highly anticipated event.

Watches and Wonders will be inviting the inhabitants of Geneva, both novices and enthusiasts and all visitors to enjoy an immersive experience at the heart of a Salon, designed as a sumptuous village with its squares, alleys, restaurants and watchmaking worlds. In total, nearly 50 Maisons and watch manufacturers will be exhibiting their wonders in Geneva.

The curtain will rise on this exhibition of exceptional pieces on 27 March of this year. At this event, eagerly awaited by the main players in the watchmaking industry, the Maisons will unveil their latest creations. The first days are reserved for business visitors, while the general public is expected on 1 and 2 April, when they can take a  journey into the heart of time.

More than just a trade show, it will be a passionate experience to be enjoyed in person or online via the watchesandwonders.com platform. Watches and Wonders  is also a place where you can listen to and learn from the professionals. An extensive  programme of talks has been specially organised for the general public on 1 and 2 April. Around six talks and discussion panels will be held each day in the Auditorium. Renowned experts and speakers have been lined up to analyse watch trends, explain what makes a watch valuable, or how to start a vintage watch collection. Topical subjects will also be discussed, such as the metaverse, NFTs, blockchain and circularity.

Watches and Wonders is devoted to time: first, the past, through objects crafted respecting a centuries-old tradition, then the present, with timepieces which are revolutionising this art, and finally, the future, which will be discussed in the LAB, an area dedicated to innovation and new technologies, driven by projects from the exhibiting Maisons which are looking to introduce the future into the heart of watch movements.

The Salon has a number of wonders for visitors to explore, including the ‘What time is it?’ photographic exhibition presented by Karine Bauzin. It investigates our relationship with time and how it is perceived. This Swiss press photographer asked people she met in 20 different countries ‘What time is it?’. Their answer can be summed up in one hand gesture, the same one repeated all over the world and which watchmakers themselves used when they invented the wristwatch. It took her ten years to complete this ethnographic work.

While the Salon is the highlight of this annual rendez-vous, the whole of Geneva will  hum to the rhythm of watch movements for a whole week. The major watch stores on Rue du Rhône and Rues Basses will also open their doors In the City in order to  unveil special designs, ornate pieces and rare watch complications during a skilfully orchestrated rally. Each of the participating brands’ boutiques has planned specific activities to welcome visitors and showcase their expertise. A special evening event dedicated to watchmaking will be held in the Rues Basses on Thursday, 30 March from 5 to 9 pm. This will be an opportunity to be drawn into the wonderful world of watchmaking, amidst concerts, street entertainment and famous artists. Those who wish to prolong the experience can attend the talks on ‘Geneva and watchmaking’ at the Pont de la Machine. This venue will also serve as an information centre throughout the week.

Whether you are an amateur or an enthusiast of beautiful watches, Watches and Wonders is a rare event not to be missed: online ticketing opens on 1 February  at noon on the watchesandwonders.com platform.

As a result of their new collaboration, Hublot and Takashi Murakami present thirteen new NFTs and thirteen unique timepieces featuring the iconic smiling flower that is central to the Japanese artist’s work.

“Our partnership with Takashi Murakami is allowing us to construct a history that interlinks all the works we have released with Takashi, both digital pieces and the watches themselves. Faithful to its history, Hublot is once again first, unique and different in how it rewards its collectors, providing them with privileged access to both ownership of and trade in unique artistic pieces. Hublot Loves Art!” RICARDO GUADALUPE HUBLOT CEO

“When my collaboration with Hublot was announced, we made it known that we would be adopting new forms of artistic expression. After creating all the timepieces together, as well as the digital works of art, we are now imagining new ways of accessing contemporary art.” TAKASHI MURAKAMI

At an exclusive event which took place at the Glass House in New York on February 2nd, Hublot and Takashi Murakami announced their fourth joint artistic project: the launch of thirteen new NFTs and thirteen unique timepieces. This announcement represents a continuation of past projects, by rewarding the first buyers of the watches and collectors of the first NFTs through an exclusive approach.

The thirteen unique NFTs are inspired by Japanese video games & TV from the 1970s as well as the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami All Black, the first collaboration between the Swiss watchmaker and Takashi Murakami launched in January 2021. These NFTs are linked to a limited edition of 13 new and unique Classic Fusion watches that will be at Watches & Wonders 2023 in Geneva. Twelve of these watches will be available for purchase exclusively online on hublot.com, which can only be accessed by owners of at least one of the 324 NFTs issued in April 2022 as part of the third collaboration between Hublot and Takashi Murakami. These 324 NFTs were originally offered to owners of one of the two Hublot x Takashi Murakami watch models (Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami All Black & Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Sapphire Rainbow), before they were allowed to be exchanged on the decentralized NFT trading platform, OpenSea. The period between the announcement of the project in New York in February 2023 and the start of sales in early April 2023 in Geneva will allow any collector interested in one of the new watches to collect one of the NFTs available on OpenSea. Each buyer lucky enough to purchase one of the 12 new unique watches will receive a corresponding exclusive NFT.

Hublot and Takashi Murakami take the watch as a work of art to a new level, by bridging the art of fine watchmaking with digital art. The 13th watch of the collection, unveiled in New York, is the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow and it is also the masterpiece. Taking inspiration from the two previously launched pieces, this watch reinterprets t he iconic emblem of Takashi Murakami: the smiling flower. Here, the 12 petals of the flower form a perfect gradient of rubies, sapphires, amethysts, tsavorites and topaz. Thanks to an ingenious ball bearing system developed by Hublot’s engineers the petals create a dizzying spectacle of colour as the y spin on an axis with each movement. The kinetic effect of the petals creates a striking effect against the 45mm black ceramic case. The center of the smiling flower is placed on top of the sapphire glass to create a three-dimensional effect.

The twelve other references, which will be available for purchase by holders of the NFTs on the dedicated ecommerce platform, recall the master flower and represent one of the petals. Twelve references for twelve hours on the dial, and twelve NFTs. The heart of the watch beats with the manufacture Unico calibre set in the emblematic Classic Fusion design a unique movement that offers a 72 hour power reserve. As the third watch collaboration between Hublot and the Japanese artist, this launch is proof of the incredible collectability of this partnership.

As the second step, collectors will then have a period of one year during which they will have the opportunity to trade the twelve NFTs on the OpenSea platform. In April 202 4 at the end of this period, only the collector who has managed to collect all 12 of the new unique NFTs will be eligible to purchase the thirteenth and most sought after watch: the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow In the event that no single person has managed to gather all twelve NFTs the watch will be auctioned by Hublot to raise funds for charity.

A STATE-OF-THE-ART ADDITION TO THE JAZZMASTER FACE 2 FACE SERIES

DOUBLE-FACED EXCELLENCE BY HAMILTON

A new chapter of technical virtuosity: reinterpreting the idea of rotating case design, the Jazzmaster Face-2-Face III limited edition brings flair and sophistication to the namesake series. Pushing watchmaking expertise and design creativity to the fore, this new two-faced timekeeper adds an understated twist to one of the most prominent of Hamilton’s complication watches.

Upon its release in 2013, the Jazzmaster Face 2 Face has been considered a pioneer of the new watchmaking ground for Hamilton: the concept of a double-sided dial, essentially giving two distinct personalities to the single horological creation. Establishing itself as a combination of avant-garde and classic aesthetics, the collection welcomes the Jazzmaster Face 2 Face III, the third edition limited to 999 pieces.

Equipped with a round rotating 44mm case, the inventive Jazzmaster Face 2 Face III boasts two dials – one a time-telling face comprising chronograph functions, the other featuring measurement scales and an exhibition movement. Built within a multi-layered architecture, the main watch’s dial has a complexity matching its inner mechanics. While the time is displayed on the outer ring, the three chronograph counters keep track of elapsed hours, minutes and seconds. These overlapping sub-dials are placed on the top of the exposed date wheel, forming a three-dimensional structure. Reinforcing the concept of duality, the anthracite dial elements are complemented by blue accents of the hour counter and passing through seconds hand.

Flipping the case over, the second dial features the tachymeter and pulsometer scales, allowing active lifestyle enthusiasts to measure speed and keep track of their pulse.

Hamilton’s watchmaking know-how comes into the spotlight thanks to the skeletonized dial design offering a glimpse of its H-41 automatic chronograph movement with 60 hours of power reserve.

Blending the unconventional and the classic, the Jazzmaster Face-2-Face III is paired with a patina-look brown leather strap accentuated by blue stitching on both sides for a striking contrast and sporty feel.

Marked by complex dial aesthetic and versatile look, the Jazzmaster Face 2 Face III rewrites the rules by fitting out of the box innovation into a more traditional watch case. A true conversation starter, this dual personality timepiece is made for watch extroverts.

ZENITH THE DEFY REVIVAL A3691

ZENITH THE DEFY REVIVAL A3691 MARKS THE RETURN OF THE FIRST DEFY MODEL WITH A VIVIDLY COLOURED DIAL

After revisiting the very first DEFY wristwatch last year, ZENITH is unveiling the second model in its collection of faithfully reproduced iconic DEFY pieces with the DEFY Revival A3691 Revival, an important 1971 reference that took the audacious design a step further by initiating the collection’s historically extensive use of striking colours.

Returning to the essence of the DEFY collection and the historical references that continue to serve as a source of inspiration for the contemporary collection of the same name, ZENITH is unveiling the second DEFY Revival model with a remake of the A3691, based on the 1971 reference. With its vibrant red gradient-effect dial and rugged geometric case, the DEFY Revival A3691 becomes the first DEFY Revival model in the permanent collection.

1969 will forever be remembered as a major turning point for ZENITH. Not only did the Manufacture unveil the venerable El Primero calibre, but it also debuted the DEFY collection of wristwatches. Taking a firm stance against the onset of quartz watches that threatened to put traditional Swiss watchmaking in peril, ZENITH stood its ground by creating a timepiece with a singularly edgy design and ensured robustness that mass-produced electronic watches of the time simply could not rival.

One of the first models of this DEFY collection was the A3642, fittingly nicknamed the coffre-fort in French, which translates to “bank vault” or “safe-deposit box”. About two years later, ZENITH built on this daring design and introduced new colourful dials with a marked “vignette” effect that darkens towards the edges, including the A3691 with a deep red dial.

Reproduced in stunningly accurate detail using the historical production plans, the DEFY Revival A3691 brings back all the details and singular design elements that made the first-ever DEFY wristwatch model such an outstanding reference of its era; one which established the codes that continues to inspire the DEFY collection today. This includes a faceted octagonal case paired with a fourteen-sided bezel, a deep glossy red dial with a prominent vignette effect that darkens towards the edges, unusual applied square hour markers feature horizontal grooves, and the now-iconic Gay Frères steel “ladder” bracelet, which has now been updated with a more modern and ergonomic folding clasp.

In fact, the only cosmetic differences between the Revival and its progenitor are the sapphire crystal, the display case back and the type of luminescent pigments. The water-resistance of 30ATM (300 metres) has also been maintained from the original, even with the addition of a display back.

The other main difference beats away inside. Instead of the original’s solid case back emblazoned with a four-pointed star that became one of the brand’s logos and recurring design element for years, the DEFY Revival A3691 features a sapphire display back showing the automatic Elite 670 manufacture movement, operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 VpH) and providing an autonomy of 50 hours.

To the delight of collectors and unlike the DEFY Revival A3642, which was produced as a numbered limited edition, the DEFY Revival A3691 version is joining the permanent DEFY collection and will be available from ZENITH boutiques and authorised retailers around the world.

HUBLOT CELEBRATES THE YEAR OF THE RABBIT

In order to mark the arrival of the Year of the Rabbit, Hublot collaborated with Chinese Artist Wen Na in creating a unique painting for the dial of the Spirit of Big Bang Black Ceramic Rabbit

As the Lunar New Year is approaching, Swiss luxury watchmaker Hublot has invited Wen Na to craft a new Year of the Rabbit painting and present the Spirit of Big Bang Black Ceramic Rabbit. The fusion of traditional Chinese culture with Contemporary Haute Horlogerie has given rise to new ideas: Wen visualised 12 double-hours from the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches and combined them with traditional elements of the Lunar New Year. We therefore can find festive lanterns, firecrackers and lion dance in the artwork, to create an intriguing world to usher into the new year. The time is brimming with wonder and excitement at each double-hours, giving full expression to Hublot’s Art of Fusion spirit.

In traditional Chinese culture, the rabbit is considered sacred and auspicious, and thus the Year of the Rabbit 2023 is recognized as “the lucky year”. Hublot wanted to give green light to an artist in order to celebrate this Lunar New Year. Wen Na created a New Year-themed painting in her vibrant artistic language, using unbridled imagination to visualise 12 double-hours in a unique way. A group of charmingly naive rabbits, which are having fun with a lion dance, or holding firecrackers or indulging themselves in other traditional Chinese activities, marking the wonderful moments as time goes by. This scene depicts a vigorous and prosperous Year of the Rabbit and also conveys the atmosphere of the Lunar New Year, an occasion for family reunion.

Enlighted by Hublot’s Art of Fusion brand concept, Wen drew inspiration from the ancient calendar of Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, an old and mysterious Chinese cultural treasure. The 12 double-hours are fused with the images of rabbits to deliver a sense of joy and reunion. Meanwhile, she believes that refined arts in our world come in diverse forms, of which the essence lies in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. In her painting, a group of quick-witted rabbits bring to life the traditional customs associated with the Lunar New Year, including performing dragon and lion dances, putting up or changing door gods, hanging up festive lanterns, and giving and receiving red packets (a Year of Rabbit gift with money stuffed into red envelopes). There always is something to enjoy at each double-hours – from the Zi Hour to the Hai Hour. The twelve Earthly Branches are also used to record the year and the month, thus implying that every day and every month is a good time in the world of Hublot time.

Moreover, in Wen’s mind, rabbits are not just gentle and cute. She gave rabbits a more modern look by presenting them in a slightly playful style. While in keeping with the theme of the Year of the Rabbit and the quintessence of traditional Chinese culture, she changed the usual image of the gentle rabbits and recreated amusing rabbits that are energetic at different double-hours in an artistic way, injecting fresh vitality into the new year and aptly interpreting Hublot’s innovative and pioneering spirit of “be different”. A contemporary reinterpretation of the classics.

The whole visual is thus captured in her mind, which is then realised in the canvas, with powerful images interpreting the rhythm of minutes and seconds, and conveying joyful emotions in a new year. The creation is the result of a fusion between Haute Horlogerie know-how and traditional art and culture, between the essence of Eastern and Western cultures, and between the past and the present.

Coming from China, Wen Na is acclaimed as one of the leading young contemporary Chinese artists for her distinctive artistic style. She graduated with a major in printmaking and developed an indissoluble bond with “fusion of arts” during her university years. From mural paintings to sculpture and from art to music, Wen has constantly experimented with the fusion of various art forms, leveraging unique aesthetic concepts to inspire new thinking about modern art. The “fusion of arts”, which Wen believes is the driving force behind inspiration and imagination and also is in line with Hublot’s Art of Fusion brand concept. With its ingenuity and craftsmanship, Hublot has combined seemingly diametrically opposed materials and joined hands with the most talented practitioners in alternate fields to push the boundaries of what is technically and aesthetically possible to set new trends for watchmaking.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with a young artist like Wen Na who is a master of traditional Chinese culture to craft a new Lunar New Year painting and present the Spirit of Big Bang Black Ceramic Rabbit. Everyone who saw Wen Na’s mural work was shocked as she has fused her strong imagination with rich colors and lines. More interestingly, these images are not replicas of existing traditional symbols, but a combination of her use of the place where the murals are located, history, and her strong imagination. Her unique artistic style perfectly embodies the bold creative vision that we have at Hublot. Meanwhile, Hublot loves Art has been demonstrating through various forms of expression and creations how the brand loves to fuse different artistic inspirations and styles. Hublot Loves Art!”  – RICARDO GUADALUPE HUBLOT CEO

“The partnership with Hublot is a very pleasant surprise. It is also an interesting combination to integrate the ancient representation of time in traditional Chinese culture, the sexagenary cycle, with Hublot and its pioneering watch. More importantly, Hublot’s presentation of the animation also amazed me, and the whole creative process made me feel very smooth and happy as well.”  –WEN NA CONTEMPORARY ARTIST

Inspired by Hublot’s Art of Fusion brand concept, Wen Na interpreted the twelve Earthly Branches, a symbol from the traditional Chinese calendar, with artistic imagination to depict the distinctive 12 double-hours. A group of charming rabbits having fun with a lion dance, holding firecrackers or indulging in other activities, mark the wonderful moments of each of the double-hours. This timepiece represents a fusion of the essence of Chinese culture and innovative watchmaking concepts, while demonstrating the connection between Eastern and Western cultures with a unique artistic language.

A Year of the Rabbit-themed painting is vividly rendered into a festive scene on the dial with playful rabbits at different double-hours, thanks to the brand’s exquisite craftsmanship. Hublot artisans use a variety of brushes to paint the dial, with some details presented in hair-thin fine strokes. Each hand-painted dial is created through a complicated process that takes over 40 hours. Each dial of the 12 pieces is different from the others, therefore all are unique artworks that showcase the brand’s exceptional watchmaking expertise. In addition, the representation of hour markers has adopted an artistic expression that derives from the traditional twelve Earthly Branches, representing a tribute to profound Chinese culture and Hublot’s efforts of taking its pioneering philosophy of fusion to a new height.

This timepiece adopts the tonneau-shaped case, a signature design code of the Spirit of Big Bang collection, and incorporates all the classic design elements of Big Bang watches: the six H-shaped screws on the bezel, the lugs either side of the case, the over-moulded rubber screw-down crown decorated with the iconic H, and the sandwich type construction. Additionally, the Spirit of Big Bang Black Ceramic Rabbit is made of black ceramic to provide a perfect contrast with the gorgeous image on the dial where rabbits are celebrating the Lunar New Year. Housed within the 42mm-diameter case is the HUB1710 self-winding movement with a 50-hour power reserve.

HUBLOT BIG BANG ZERMATT: BACK TO THE MATTERHORN

For the fourth time, Hublot celebrates its special relationship with Zermatt, the iconic Swiss Alpine resort town nestled at the base of the Matterhorn. Two original new creations were  released to mark this special occasion.

“The connection between Hublot and Zermatt is more than symbolic. We share the same terroir and, the same roots, and we carry these qualities far beyond our borders. But I believe the quality that best defines Hublot is loyalty. The Big Bang Zermatt models that we have released since 2017 are a mark of the friendship and authenticity that we share with our fans and collectors.” – RICARDO GUADALUPE HUBLOT CEO

Matterhorn, carved out in rock over hundreds of millions of years. On the other, the mastery of perfect, modern lines by a contemporary manufacture. Yet, once again, Hublot has fused the elements and brought to life a creation that glorifies the silhouette of Switzerland’s most famous mountain within its legendary Big Bang.

However, this is not just any representation of the Matterhorn. It is depicted as it appears from Zermatt, because the Matterhorn has been the main witness to the union between Hublot and the iconic Alpine resort. For the last five years, the two entities have joined forces to celebrate their “Swissness”. For example, Hublot has set up the most traditional of its boutiques at the heart of the resort, made entirely from wood in the purest respect for local architectural traditions. The Hublot boutique has since become an integral part of the charm and the magic of the area.

Of course, Hublot, as an advocate for emotions and meaningful connections, was always going to take it to the next level! To reach the summit of the Zermatt ski resort, visitors now take the Hublot-Express (Gant-Blauherd), one of the resort’s most modern cable cars, built in 2016, and reaching an altitude of 2600 metres. The goal? To carve through fresh snow, or powder for more accomplished skiers, and arrive at Chez Vrony, the century-old family restaurant for whom Hublot is also the “Official Timekeeper”.

The new Big Bang Zermatt is part of this local dynamic, combining the best of Swiss tradition with modern watchmaking. The latest pieces in a collection created in 2017, the two new Big Bangs explore the two faces of watchmaking, like a climber scaling the two iconic faces of the Matterhorn.

Each version is available in a steel case – a return to the basics that has not been used by Hublot in a Zermatt special edition since 2018. The material, which features alternating polished and satin-finished surfaces, echoes the unique reflection of schist, the typical Swiss stone similar to slate which forms a large part of the Matterhorn. The sunray finished dial will illuminate this with an ever-changing light, like the faces of the Matterhorn under the continuously shifting sun.

These two editions both boast the special Big Bang Zermatt feature of which collectors are so fond: the Matterhorn at 9 o’clock on the men’ model, and at 3 o’clock on the ladies’ model. The latter boasts a bezel set with 36 diamonds which also punctuate the hour indices. Each bezel is equipped with screws made from titanium, a material inspired by the needs of mountaineers, whose equipment must be both light and strong. Once again, Hublot has mastered the fusion of substance and shape, colour and material, Alpine and watchmaking symbols.

Both versions are powered by a self-winding chronograph and complimented by two nubuck straps: the first in slate grey, the second in snow white, in a dual tribute to the iconic colours of Zermatt.

De Bethune DB27 TITAN HAWK JPS

The Latest Version of the Iconic De Bethune Titan Hawk

The dramatic contrast between black and gold gives the new DB27 Titan Hawk JPS a clean but subtly elegant technical feel, echoing the influence and heritage of competitive motorsports, as well as the advanced features of the caliber AUTOV2.

The DB27 Titan Hawk JPS is the newest member of the Titan Hawk family and continues the line’s combination of advanced technical features, practicality and wearability, and clean, distinctive styling in a timepiece that pays homage to the golden age of competitive motorsports of the 1970s.

The heart of the DB27 Titan Hawk JPS is the caliber AUTOV2. Like the engines found in the most cutting-edge racing cars, the AUTOV2 has been optimized for strength, precision, and performance and takes advantage of the most modern materials and methods to create a movement intended to be the last word in performance watchmaking.

The caliber AUTOV2 offers a sixty-hour power reserve from a single mainspring barrel, and features De Bethune’s signature titanium balance, with white gold inserts. The balance, as the element which regulates the precision of the entire watch, must possess certain technical features including optimum mass at the periphery as well as low mass elsewhere – a goal which De Bethune has explored and mastered over two decades of refining the design of this most essential element. Combined with the patented De Bethune balance spring, and a balance bridge fixed at two points on the movement plate for maximum strength and stability, the AUTOV2 is a sophisticated expression of both striking aesthetics and precision engineering.

The case of the De Bethune Titan Hawk JPS is in black zirconium, a high-tech, high-strength, hypoallergenic and lightweight material offering superior technical advantages in comparison to standard sports watch stainless steels. The wearability of the watch is further improved by the signature De Bethune articulated “floating lugs” with their ogival tips, which allow the watch to conform perfectly to the owner’s wrist whether large or small. Finally, the design of the case and dial expresses De Bethune’s long-standing commitment to both technical and aesthetic excellence, with yellow titanium accents contrasting with the black zirconium case body, in an echo of the John Player Special Formula One livery used by the F1 Lotus team.

The Origin of the DB27

It was in March 2018 that De Bethune’s manufacture introduced the latest in-house self-winding caliber; the AUTOV2, the beating heart of a timepiece with a modern twist. Indeed, the DB27 Titan Hawk JPS draws its inspiration from the design and technology of its predecessors while adding an innovative touch. Slim lines, a black microlight dial, sandblasted titanium minute hands with hand-polished tips, a microlight case middle, and brushed lugs and tinted open back are all key elements of the design – making for a watch that stands out not only for its sleek design but also for its entirely in-house movement.

If the inspiration of the original DB27 Titan Hawk model is very quickly perceived, each detail is rethought and reworked to find the elegance and readability of an object above all designed for maximum functionality. Juxtaposing Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minute track, the reading of the time is given around rings located at the periphery of the dial.

AUTOV2

Focusing on the essentials, the DB27 Titan Hawk JPS is equipped with the AUTOV2 caliber, hour, minute, second, which features a single barrel providing 60 hours of power reserve. The last titanium balance with white gold inserts remains visible on the back of the watch.

Thanks to the technique still developed in-house, the movement is equipped with an optimized oscillating weight for the automatic winding system, made of titanium and white gold allowing it to power with maximum efficiency, and with the visual elegance so characteristic of De Bethune’s watchmaking – combining a deep celestial blue with the cool gleam of white metal, a signature De Bethune design code for many years.

A Tribute to an Iconic Color Scheme in the World of Motorsports

Constantly refining the structural nuances hovering between dark grey and deep black, while sparingly adding golden accents that are in fact yellow titanium – was a new opportunity to demonstrate De Bethune’s expertise in working with the oxidation of titanium and its color palette.

De Bethune blue, the brand’s historic and pioneering signature, is now succeeded by a golden yellow color, for which the creative process required new assembly techniques and new texturing skills – all of which Denis Flageollet and his team have developed to bring the project to fruition and thus pay tribute to this formidable era of high-tech discoveries.

Ergonomics and Comfort

Finally, the DB27 Titan Hawk JPS meets De Bethune’s sporting, technical, and aesthetic aspirations. All the aesthetic codes of the Manufacture can be found in this model: the patented floating lug system with its famous cone-shaped tips that are more prominent than ever, comprising polished yellow grade 5 titanium inserts recalling the side of the case, the 12 o’clock position of its crown, a microlight decoration on the case middle, and the black microlight dial (microlight is a form of decoration unique to De Bethune, which improves on traditional guilloche to produce unique visual and optical effects).

Machined in a 43 mm case in black zirconium with a microlight decoration on the middle, accompanied by a black canvas strap, the DB27 Titan Hawk JPS is also an exception expression of the De Bethune rule of wearer comfort.

The result is a construction that adapts particularly well to the size of each wrist and the way it moves.

The DB27 Titan Hawk JPS is available as a limited series sold exclusively through De Bethune.

THE BIG BANG UNICO SORAI TIME FOR RHINOS

In the battle against extinction, time is everything and every second counts.

Hublot has been supporting SORAI Save Our Rhinos Africa India since 2019. An organisation founded by Hublot ambassador and former international cricket star Kevin Pietersen. His work helps keep rhinos threatened with extinction safe from poachers. As with the two previous limited editions, part of the proceeds from the sale of the 100 Big Bang Unico SORAI will be donated to the organisation. The colours chosen for the third limited edition are those of sunset recalling the heightened danger faced by rhinos as night falls. Here, the sun is a symbol of hope of a new dawn.

“If purchasing a watch can buy time, then it is a small gesture with huge implications. Saving the rhino is an urgent matter for both the planet and future generations. When brand ambassador and former international cricketer Kevin Pietersen launched SORAI in 2018, we felt it was entirely natural to join forces with him in his race against time to beat the poachers. We have used our limited editions to help him gain access to more state of the art technologies on the ground, put together more surveillance teams, as well as rescue injured or orphaned rhinos, with the single shared aim of shielding this endangered species.” –  RICARDO GUADALUPE HUBLOT CEO

A watch made to support rhinos.

  • Because the rhino’s only predators are humans.
  • Because every day, every minute and every second counts.
  • Because each Big Bang Unico SORAI will buy time for endangered rhinos.
  • Because, on the ground, we need to be faster than the poachers.
  • Because poaching is one of the greatest threats to biodiversity and risk for species extinction, second only to the destruction of natural habitats.

One of the “BIG FIVE” and the second largest mammal after the elephant, the rhino has seen its numbers drop by 90% over the last ten years. On average, three wild rhinos are killed every day, leaving fewer than 30,000 rhinos currently alive across the world. And while trade in rhino horn has been banned internationally since 1977 by CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora), poachers continue to hunt and kill rhinos for their horns, whose price is worth more per kilo than gold.

Since 2018, SORAI has supported projects to protect endangered animals, identify new technologies to combat poaching (thermal cameras, GPS tracking of animals) and raise awareness of the need to protect these endangered species. In line with its motto, “BE THE CHANGE”, SORAI is pushing change and working to prevent poaching and hunting. There are many ways to combat poaching (raising public awareness, education, law enforcement, transmitters for tracking animals, increasing ranger numbers and creating sanctuaries for injured or orphaned animals). However, prevention and active rangers on the ground remain the most effective tools Proceeds from the sale of the Big Bang Unico SORAI will go directly to projects supported by SORAI to equip helicopters with cameras, raise awareness in schools about the consequences of poaching and to provide backup to rangers on the ground. These strategies are implemented where the need is biggest and most pressing South Africa. South Africa is home to more than 80% of the world’s total population of rhinos, with the majority of poaching taking place in Kruger National Park as it has the largest population of wild white rhinos left on earth.

Our actions on the ground (surveillance teams and equipment to prevent poaching, rhino sanctuaries and refuges) are vital. However, in order to act, we first need to raise public awareness, increase publicity and make this a visible cause. Hublot is helping us on the ground by donating proceeds from the sale of the Big Bang Unico SORAI and by lending the brand’s voice to our cause to bring it to global attention. In the three years since we began this joint venture, it has yielded concrete results.

Almost 130 boutiques around the world share Hublot’s fervour and values, alongside the Hublot.com e-commerce site.

SAXEM, ACT II: THE BIG BANG TOURBILLON AUTOMATIC NOW IN NEON YELLOW SAXEM

Hublot continues its exploration of SAXEM – a material often used in satellites and some lasers – allowing the Manufacture to obtain unprecedented translucent colours, of which neon yellow. A first for Hublot and for watchmaking.

“It has taken us almost three years of research, after the MP-11 Emerald Green, to develop a new colour fit for our Big Bang and that would be totally transparent and completely resistant. Once again, Hublot is pushing the possibilities of technology and aesthetics and fuses them to create a unique neon yellow manufacturer piece. – RICARDO GUADALUPE (HUBLOT CEO)”

Reproducing a translucent case in a bright, fluorescent shade of neon yellow may seem like a simple idea. But, in fact, it was incredibly complex to achieve. The yellow is a powerful, bright neon colour which almost seems to glow from the inside, like a fluorescent material. An intense fluorescent shade of acid yellow, citrus-like in its quality. To meet this highly technical challenge, Hublot had to search for a solution in space technology. In fact, SAXEM was developed in the field of satellite technology. A unique material that had also been used in 2019 for the Big Bang MP-11.

At the time, Hublot had crafted it in emerald green. This time, the goal was to achieve a brand-new neon yellow colour. It also had to meet the strict requirements of the Nyon Manufacture for its sapphire watches: complete transparency and incredible resistance. After three years of research and development, the challenge was met and overcome with the Big Bang Tourbillon Automatic Yellow Neon SAXEM.

What is SAXEM? It stands for “Sapphire Aluminium oXide and rare Earth Mineral”. It is an alloy of aluminium oxide, the basic component of sapphire, with rare earth elements like thulium and holmium as well as chromium. The resulting material is ultra-resistant and endowed with a brilliance that is greater than that of sapphire. The absence of tension within the material ensures greater stability in terms of shaping, whereas the cubic crystalline structure guarantees the same shade and intensity of colour, regardless of the angle from which the case is viewed. The fully polished neon yellow SAXEM offers a bold contrast with the bezel’s six H-shaped screws and with the crown, all in polished and micro-blasted titanium.

In terms of movement, the Big Bang Tourbillon Automatic Yellow Neon SAXEM is powered by the HUB6035 self-winding Manufacture calibre. Hublot has chosen the most difficult technical route, self-winding using a micro-rotor, the only way to avoid concealing the back of the movement as a conventional rotor would have done. On top of that, the Manufacture has chosen to skeletonise the entire calibre. This is a stratospheric feat of watchmaking which pushes open-worked materials to the limits of their functional resistance, almost nothing remains that would conceal the calibre. Entirely visible and fully laid bare, even its bridges are made from sapphire so that only the beating heart and soul of the watch remain. This heart is the tourbillon, which appears to be suspended in mid-air. This architecture serves to free the piece from any visual clutter. Positioned at 6 o’clock, it offers the technical and hypnotic spectacle of a high-precision Haute Horlogerie piece, designed as a 21st-century interpretation: modern, disruptive, dazzling.

Finally, to make it suitable for daily use, the Big Bang Tourbillon Automatic Yellow Neon SAXEM offers a guaranteed 72-hour power reserve – making the piece perfectly weekend-proof.

This timepiece, which will be exclusively available as a limited edition of 50 pieces, comes with a neon yellow textured rubber strap, tailor-made for this watch, complete with a titanium deployant buckle and equipped with the One Click system so that it can be changed immediately with no need for tools.

ZENITH Defy Skyline Skeleton

ZENITH UNVEILS THE DEFY SKYLINE SKELETON AT LVMH WATCH WEEK AS THE WORLD’S FIRST SKELETON WATCH FEATURING A 1/10TH OF A SECOND INDICATOR

One year after the launch of the acclaimed DEFY Skyline collection, ZENITH is presenting its most elaborate skeleton watch to date and the only one in the world to feature a 1/10th of a second indicator at the annual LVMH Watch Week, which is taking place in Singapore for the first time.

More structured, more open, more stellar: ZENITH is expanding the DEFY Skyline collection with a new skeleton line that goes far beyond openworked. Introduced last year as the latest chapter in the enduring DEFY legacy of sturdy and singularly futuristic timekeepers, the DEFY Skyline collection was conceived for an ever-fast-moving world where every fraction of a second can be a decisive one. Drawing inspiration from modern cityscapes where structures and light are bound in a constantly moving interplay, the DEFY Skyline Skeleton reaches even further towards the light on the horizon and opens a whole new world of possibilities to what a skeleton watch can be.

The previous generation of the DEFY Skeleton had quickly risen to become one of ZENITH’s most sought-after creations, outstanding with its star-shaped open dial and incredible symmetry. Pushing the resolutely contemporary openworked design further and housed within a new more angular case, the DEFY Skyline Skeleton seamlessly integrates the open dial with an openworked version of the El Primero automatic movement in a most striking manner. Harmoniously symmetrical, the open dial takes on the form of a four-pointed stars, in a nod to the ZENITH “double Z” logo of the 1960s. The chapter ring’s applied baton hour markers as well as the central hour and minute hands are filled with Super-LumiNova for easy legibility; something that is usually sacrificed in skeleton watches. A constantly running 1/10th of a second counter at 6 o’clock makes steady jumps in fixed increments, completing one revolution every 10 seconds, a feature that’s unique in watchmaking to the new generation of the El Primero automatic high-frequency calibre. The open dial comes in black or blue, with the skeleton movement finished in the same colour as the open dials for a cohesive and architectural look.

Drawing inspiration from the unique octagonal geometry of the early DEFY models of the 1960s, the angular steel case of the DEFY Skyline Skeleton retains the same DNA of robustness and durability as its predecessors while bringing an edgier and more architectural aesthetic, as well as a host of new functions to the metropolis-ready companion. Fixed atop the 41mm stainless steel case with sharply defined edges, the faceted bezel is inspired by those from early DEFY models, reimagined with twelve sides that are positioned as extensions to the hour markers. With an emphasis on performance in the largest possible range of activities and situations, the screw-down crown emblazoned with the star emblem provides a water-resistance of 10 ATM (100 metres).

Visible from the front as well as the sapphire display back is the openworked version of the high-frequency automatic El Primero calibre, the 3620 SK. Efficient in its performance, the automatic winding mechanism with bi-directional rotor with a star motif delivers a power reserve of approximately 60 hours.

With versatility at its core, the DEFY Skyline Skeleton comes on a steel bracelet with a satin-brushed surface with chamfered and polished edges, seamlessly flowing with the sharply faceted lines of the case. It also comes with a rubber strap and steel folding buckle with a starry sky pattern in continuity with the dial, made in blue rubber for the blue dial version and black rubber for the black dial. The wearer can easily switch between the steel bracelet and rubber strap without any tools, using the DEFY case’s ingenious quick strap-change mechanism consisting of secure buttons on the back.

Bringing a new dimension to the DEFY line and reimagining the possibilities of skeleton watches in form as well as function, the DEFY Skyline Skeleton is available at ZENITH boutiques and authorized retailers around the world.
