Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon and 910P

Piaget unveils the ultimate expression of elegance and innovation with two new Altiplano models in gold and khaki green. Blending ultra-thin mechanical mastery with its jeweler’s artistry, Piaget introduces the Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon and the Altiplano 910P.

In an audacious new expression of its dual mastery of watchmaking and jewellery, Piaget proudly introduces two extraordinary timepieces that redefine the limits of elegance and innovation: the Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon and the Altiplano 910P.

Since the introduction of the legendary 9P movement in 1957, followed by the groundbreaking 12P in 1960, Piaget has set the standard for ultra-thin watchmaking. The Altiplano collection, born from this spirit of innovation, has become synonymous with mechanical elegance, technical audacity, and timeless purity. With these latest creations, Piaget writes a new chapter in this storied tradition, merging Maison’s horological expertise with its deep- rooted artistry in jewellery and design. Today, the Altiplano continues to break records and push boundaries, most recently with the Altiplano Ultimate Concept winning the prestigious Aiguille d’Or at the 2020 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. These new Altiplano creations mark the pinnacle of a nearly seven-decade journey—an audacious evolution of a modern watchmaking icon that continues to redefine the boundaries of elegance, innovation, and craftsmanship.

THE ALTIPLANO ULTIMATE CONCEPT TOURBILLON: A SOPHISTICATED ULTRA-THIN UPDATE

Following the 2024 debut of the Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon 150th Limited Edition, Piaget introduces a new interpretation, distinguished by a sophisticated color palette of khaki green and yellow gold. The cobalt alloy case is still 2.0mm thin. As has always been the case at Piaget, technical innovation is not an end in itself, but a means to achieve aesthetic purity. Here, ultra-thin watchmaking becomes a vehicle for expressing something greater, a vision of elegance where mechanics disappear into design. In the AUC Tourbillon, there is no separation between case and movement – each element is engineered with the same uncompromising precision. The caseback itself serves as the movement’s mainplate, a feat of integration where not a single millimeter is wasted in Piaget’s relentless pursuit of ultra-thin perfection.

Crafted from cobalt alloy, a material known for its resistance, the 41.5 mm case of the AUC Tourbillon also adds a sapphire caseback for the first time, giving full view of the caliber 970P-UC. The caliber now features a variety of satin-brushed and polished finishes, bringing a more sophisticated, contemporary character to the piece. The caseback bears two engraved tributes: the brand’s motto, “Always do better than necessary”, and “La Côte-aux Fées,” the name of the historic village where Piaget was founded and continues to craft its most exceptional pieces. In a nod to the Altiplano’s design  heritage, Piaget has subtly reinterpreted its signature cross-shaped motif, historically seen on the Altiplano, now replicated across the ratchet wheel, balance wheel, and screw arrangement. This symbolic touch reinforces the connection between heritage and innovation. The AUC Tourbillon is paired on a matching khaki green calfskin strap featuring a newly developed pattern called “Polish Mesh” that evokes Piaget’s goldsmithing savoir-faire.

The AUC Tourbillon will now join the AUC and the Andy Warhol collection as part of Piaget’s Infinitely Personal program. Clients will be invited to co create their own AUC Tourbillon through a dedicated online configurator, working alongside sales advisors to select custom finishes, materials, and engravings, transforming this groundbreaking timepiece into a unique expression of personal style, true to a long-held ideal that each Piaget piece should be as unique as the individual wearing it. The Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon stands as the ultimate expression of Piaget’s identity – where the ingenuity of the watchmaker and the artistry of the jeweler converge in a singular, ultra-thin masterpiece designed for everyone.

THE ALTIPLANO 910P: AN ICON FOR EVERY DAY

Complementing the Tourbillon is the Altiplano 910P – a no less distinctive interpretation of Piaget’s ultra-thin legacy. Measuring just 4.3 mm thick, the 41 mm case is made for the first time in yellow gold, creating a radiant contrast with the rich khaki green dial and matching alligator strap. While Piaget’s goldsmithing is celebrated in its bracelets and High Jewellery, here it seamlessly intertwines with the Maison’s other great triumph—ultra-thin watchmaking—to create a timepiece where technical precision and precious metal artistry are one and the same. The ultra-thin caliber 910P isn’t just an engineering feat—it’s a visual statement, with bridges finished in khaki green and a peripheral rotor rendered in slate grey and green tones, designed to complement the warmth of the yellow gold case and provide visual interest while preserving the watch’s svelte proportions. This new edition of the Ultimate Automatic draws direct inspiration from the AUC Tourbillon, with the same subtle cross-shaped pattern appearing on the dial screws—a bridge that ties both models together in form and philosophy.

HIGH WATCHMAKING MEETS HIGH JEWELLERY

Together, the Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon and Altiplano 910P embody the essence of Piaget’s dual identity: a pioneer of fine watchmaking and a virtuoso of goldsmithing and jewellery design. Conceived as expressions of elegance for both men and women, these timepieces transcend conventional boundaries through their balanced proportions, sophisticated palette, and uncompromising focus on form and function. With their ultra-thin profiles and artistic detailing, they appeal to a new generation of collectors who value both mechanical excellence and distinctive design as only Piaget can. It is style and substance–ultra-thin audacity wrapped in the ultimate aesthetics.

The Maison has long treated the watch not only as a precision instrument but as a canvas for artistic expression. These new Altiplano editions reaffirm that philosophy, combining technical ingenuity with precious materials and finishing techniques traditionally reserved for jewelry. The khaki green and yellow gold colorway, specially developed for this collection, is at once refined and bold—evoking natural elegance and contemporary flair. From the meticulously brushed surfaces of the AUC Tourbillon’s cobalt case to the golden glow of the Automatic’s case and peripheral rotor, every detail speaks to Piaget’s commitment to Extraleganza—a distinctive fusion of extravagance and elegance. With these additions to the Altiplano Ultimate collection, Piaget manages to strike a delicate balance of daring innovation and enduring beauty, where every fraction of a millimeter reveals a universe of craftsmanship. The Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon and Altiplano 910P are not merely worn; they are a tribute to past triumphs and an invitation to imagine the boundaries yet to be redefined. Piaget epitomizes daring creativity a quality that has continued to permeate through the Maison since its beginnings in 1874. From his frst workshop in La Cote- aux- Fees, Georges-Edouard Piaget devoted himself to crafting high-precision movements in a feat that formed the very foundations of our pioneering name. In the late 1950s, Piaget unveiled the ultra-thin movements that would later become the Maison’s trademark and the cornerstone of the Altiplano collection. As a true innovator of the watch and jewellery world, Piaget strongly believed in creativity and artistic values. It is within the walls of our Ateliers de l’Extraordinaire where master artisans continue to harness rare skills that have been preserved and perfected from generation to generation, transforming gold, stones and precious gems into dazzling works of art. Through its pursuit of masterful craftsmanship, the Maison has created emblems of daring excellence channeled into its collections including Alt plano, Piaget Polo, Limelight Gala, Possession, Piaget Sunlight, Piaget Rose and Extremely Piaget.

The Rise of the Indian Female Watch Collector: Capturing Minds, Hearts, and Market Share

The landscape of luxury watchmaking in India is experiencing a seismic shift. What was once considered a gentleman’s domain is now witnessing unprecedented female participation, with women emerging not just as buyers, but as discerning collectors and brand ambassadors. This evolution presents challenges and golden opportunities for luxury brands seeking to capture this dynamic market segment.

The Numbers Don’t Lie: A Market in Transformation

The demographic transformation driving India’s luxury watch market is nothing short of remarkable. India’s luxury goods market, valued at USD 10.01 billion in 2024, is projected to reach USD 17.94 billion by 2033—representing a robust 6.37% CAGR (IMARC Group, 2024). What makes this growth particularly compelling is its composition: women now account for 53.9% of India’s luxury market share, fundamentally reshaping how brands approach this demographic (IMARC Group, 2024).

The statistics paint a compelling picture when you turn towards the watch industry for women in India. Female labour force participation has nearly doubled from 23.3% in 2017-18 to 41.7% in 2023-24 (Periodic Labour Force Survey, Government of India), creating a new class of economically empowered women who view luxury timepieces as both professional accessories and investment assets. While 28% of luxury watches sold globally are purchased for women (Deloitte Swiss Watch Industry Study, 2024), brands like Jaeger-LeCoultre command a striking 24% share of their overall sales in India from female consumers. This gap—four percentage points below the global average—represents untapped potential worth millions in revenue for luxury maisons.

This disparity signals a massive opportunity: India’s female luxury consumers are ready to spend, but brands haven’t fully adapted their strategies to capture this sophisticated demographic.

What’s driving this trend? The answer lies in understanding the unique preferences, aspirations, and cultural context of Indian women in luxury consumption. Unlike their global counterparts, Indian female watch enthusiasts often seek pieces that seamlessly transition from boardroom to ballroom, embodying both professional success and personal style.

Strategic Brand Movements: The New Wave of Female-Focused Initiatives

Piaget’s Celebrity-Driven India Strategy

Piaget, one of the most iconic watchmakers of the past century, is making calculated moves to enter the Indian market later this year with a focus on celebrity endorsements and haute horlogerie pieces that blur the lines between timepieces and jewelry. Their strategy recognizes that Indian women appreciate watches as fashion statements—sculptural pieces that tell stories of achievement and aesthetic sensibility.

Piaget’s Sixtie collection of watches for women reinterprets the brand’s 1960s designs with a modern twist. The collection features a trapeze-shaped watch with a supple bracelet, blending geometric design with precious metals. The name also suggests a connection to the 1960s, a period when Piaget was known for its ultra-thin movements and bold designs.

Van Cleef & Arpels: The Poetry of Time Arrives

Van Cleef & Arpels is planning to enter the Indian market soon, bringing its “Poetry of Time” philosophy to a market hungry for narrative-driven luxury.

At Watches & Wonders 2025, Van Cleef & Arpels unveiled four new Pont des Amoureux variations featuring precious bracelets with diamonds and sapphires, capturing dawn, morning, dusk, and moonlight—time told through the poetry of love (Van Cleef & Arpels Press Release, April 2025). The maison also introduced the Lady Arpels Bal des Amoureux Automate, where lovers meet and kiss at noon and midnight beneath a starlit Parisian sky. These romantic narratives resonate deeply with Indian sensibilities, echoing the brand’s historic connection to India through legendary patrons like Sita Devi, the Maharani of Baroda, whose 1950s collaborations with Jacques Arpels created iconic pieces using emeralds from the Baroda royal treasure.

Cartier: The Crown Jewel’s Dominance

Cartier continues to outperform its Richemont siblings for the second consecutive year, posting robust growth while other luxury watch brands face sluggish performance (Richemont Q3 2024 Financial Report). This success stems from Cartier’s jewelry-forward approach to watchmaking—a strategy that resonates powerfully with Indian women who view luxury timepieces as extensions of their jewelry collections rather than purely functional accessories.

This trend signals a broader industry truth: jewelry-focused watch brands are thriving in markets where women drive luxury consumption. The lesson for other maisons is clear—technical prowess alone isn’t enough; emotional connection through design and heritage storytelling becomes paramount.

Digital Disruption Meets Traditional Craftsmanship

The rise of social media influence cannot be ignored. Indian women are increasingly discovering luxury watches through digital platforms, with online retail growing at double digits in the luxury segment (Bain & Company Luxury Report India, 2024). Brands must master the art of storytelling across both digital and physical touchpoints, creating immersive experiences that translate craftsmanship into compelling narratives.

The Path Forward: Actionable Strategies for Luxury Brands

Embrace Cultural Storytelling: Indian women respond to narratives that honor both heritage and innovation. Brands must weave their history with contemporary relevance.

Invest in Experience: Physical boutiques remain crucial. The tactile experience of trying luxury timepieces cannot be replicated digitally, especially for first-time buyers.

Celebrity Partnerships Matter: Strategic celebrity endorsements, when authentic, can drive significant awareness and aspiration among Indian consumers.

Digital-First Discovery: While purchase decisions happen in-store, discovery increasingly happens online. Brands need compelling digital narratives that drive foot traffic to authorized retailers.

Customization and Personalization: Indian luxury consumers value exclusivity. Offering personalization options—from dial colors to engraving—creates emotional connections that drive both purchase and loyalty.

The Indian women’s luxury watch market isn’t just growing—it’s evolving. Brands that recognize women as sophisticated collectors rather than occasional buyers, that understand the cultural nuances of luxury consumption in India, and that invest in authentic storytelling will capture the hearts, minds, and wallets of this influential demographic. The question isn’t whether this market will mature—it’s which brands will be bold enough to lead its transformation.

Piaget Polo Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin: Where Time Becomes Art

In the ever-evolving world of haute horlogerie, few creations command both respect and awe in equal measure. The Piaget Polo Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin Watch is one such creation—a masterstroke that represents decades of craftsmanship, innovation, and dedication to pushing the boundaries of form and function.

This isn’t merely a timepiece. It is a sculpture for the wrist, a calendar of the cosmos, and a conversation starter that bridges centuries of horological tradition with today’s luxury lifestyle.

A Legacy Reimagined

Piaget, a name synonymous with ultra-thin movements and jeweled elegance, has long stood at the crossroads of high watchmaking and high jewelry. Since its foundation in 1874 in the Swiss Jura mountains, Piaget has carved a distinct identity—one that values elegance without compromise, complexity without excess.

The Piaget Polo collection, introduced in 1979, became the maison’s sporty-luxury answer to the dynamic lifestyles of modern watch connoisseurs. And in 2024, with the introduction of this 42 mm Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin model in 18K white gold, the Polo legacy enters an entirely new realm of technical and aesthetic brilliance.

Design That Transcends Fashion

The first impression of this watch is an intoxicating visual blend of symmetry and boldness. Crafted from polished and satin-finished rhodiumized 18K white gold, the 42 mm case is at once confident and refined. It doesn’t shout—it commands.

With a thickness of just 8.65 mm, this ultra-thin construction is nothing short of engineering magic, especially considering the complex movement it houses. The white gold is complemented by a rich blue obsidian dial—deep, radiant, and dynamic under changing light.

Signature horizontal guilloché lines add texture and subtle depth to the dial. The perpetual calendar sub-dials are arranged intuitively—month at 3 o’clock, day of the week at 9 o’clock, date at 12, and a mesmerizing moon phase at 6 o’clock—creating a visual symmetry that echoes Piaget’s aesthetic sensibilities.

Whether paired with the interchangeable blue rubber strap or the additional blue alligator strap included, the watch feels equally appropriate on the French Riviera as it does in a Manhattan boardroom.

A Masterpiece in Motion

What powers this mechanical marvel is just as impressive as its surface. The in-house Calibre 1255P is an ultra-thin automatic movement, developed specifically for Piaget’s most refined watches. Measuring only 4 mm thick, it integrates the perpetual calendar complication in a remarkably compact form—an engineering achievement only a handful of watchmakers can match.

This movement, composed of 238 individual parts, keeps track of the correct date, day, and month for every leap year cycle up to the year 2100 without requiring manual correction—a testament to the complexity and foresight embedded in its creation.

With a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and a power reserve of approximately 42 hours, the 1255P isn’t just accurate—it’s resilient. Flip the watch over, and a sapphire case back reveals the beautifully finished movement, including Geneva stripes and polished bevels, speaking volumes about the watch’s pedigree.

The Emotional Quotient of Time

Owning a watch like this transcends utility. Of course, it tells time and tracks the calendar with unerring precision—but what it truly offers is a sense of permanence in a world of flux.

The perpetual calendar complication, tracking time across decades and leap years, reminds its wearer that craftsmanship is timeless. The ultra-thin profile is a subtle nod to the effortlessness that only true mastery can achieve. The Piaget Polo Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin isn’t for those who want to show off—it’s for those who want to belong to something eternal.

It evokes the quiet confidence of a discerning collector, someone who appreciates the past and invests in the future. It’s not just about heritage—it’s about evolving that heritage with grace.

Wearing the Future of Horology

A piece like this redefines the expectations of a “luxury sports watch.” It is equally capable in formal and casual settings, thanks to its versatile design and interchangeability of straps. And while it is water-resistant to 30 meters (3 ATM), it’s best appreciated in settings that allow its beauty and brilliance to shine.

Whether attending a black-tie gala, negotiating a high-stakes deal, or simply enjoying a contemplative moment alone, this watch is a reminder that true luxury lies in details—those invisible nuances that most will never see but that the wearer will always feel.

Price and Prestige

At $104,000, the Piaget Polo Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin is firmly placed within the realm of elite haute horlogerie. But this isn’t just about the price tag—it’s about value. The rarity of ultra-thin perpetual calendars, especially from a maison with Piaget’s credentials, means this watch is likely to become a future classic.

It’s not mass-produced, and it’s not chasing trends. It’s crafted—patiently, passionately, purposefully—for those who appreciate artistry over attention.

Final Thoughts: Time, Perfected

The  is more than an accessory—it’s a philosophy on the wrist. It speaks of time, not just as hours and minutes, but as heritage, innovation, and the promise of enduring beauty.

In a world obsessed with fleeting moments, this watch is a quiet, confident reminder that time—when crafted right—is forever.

Hublot, renowned for its innovation and avant-garde approach to watchmaking, collaborates with Chinese artist Chen Fenwan to create a masterpiece that seamlessly blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary artistry. Each element is meticulously positioned to create a paper-cut-out representation of this mythical creature. The Dragon’s head, comprised of five layers alternating between hands, wheels, and H-shaped screws, seamlessly extends into its body and scales, which intricately adorn the accompanying strap. 9. Bovet – The Récital 26 Chapter Two Golden Dragon

China’s most significant cultural icon, the Dragon, takes centre stage in Bovet’s masterpiece, the Récital 26 Chapter Two. Far from Western fire-breathing monsters, the Chinese Dragon embodies benevolence and magical powers, symbolizing courage, confidence, and success. Born in the Year of the Dragon, individuals like John Lennon, Bruce Lee, and Martin Luther King Jr. are believed to inherit these remarkable traits. Integrating a solid 18K gold dragon into the award-winning timepiece presented unique challenges for BOVET. Amidst complications like the Hour and Minute domed Dial, World Time Hemispheric Dial, and the patented BOVET flying tourbillon, the Technical Office carefully delineated the Dragon’s space. A commissioned sculptor and in-house hand-engravers worked meticulously, taking 40-50 hours to craft intricate details, including eyes, scales, claws, and whiskers. A fiery-red ruby set into the eye adds a final touch to the hand-engraved sculpture.

Dragons, rooted in mythology and symbolizing unity, trace back over 5,000 years to China’s Neolithic Age. The Year of the Dragon in 2024, from February 10th to January 28th, 2025, is anticipated to bring luck and power. The Récital 26 Brainstorm® Chapter Two, featuring Bovet’s patented double-sided flying tourbillon, celebrates the Year of the Dragon with exquisite craftsmanship and mechanical excellence. Limited to 12 pieces worldwide, it reflects the 12 months of the Dragon Year, inviting enthusiasts to dance with the Dragon’s symbolic power.

The LAB, which serves as a window into the future of the industry, will take on a new dimension at the heart of the Salon, symbolically representing the importance of technological innovation within the manufactures. Here, startups, schools and engineers will reveal the secrets of tomorrow’s watchmaking. It’s an immersive, tactile and sensory experience for the curious and especially relevant to younger enthusiasts with career aspirations.

The heart of the City will be ticking even louder to the rhythm of watch movements, with a dynamic In The City program. A new Village Horloger will be created to showcase the wonders of fine watchmaking, its crafts, savoir-faire and talents. Major brands will also be joining the festivities with in-store activities featuring presentations and special exhibitions of their finest creations. The evening celebration – with its free concert – will be held on April 11 on the Quai Général-Guisan.

Watches and Wonders Geneva is aimed at all audiences and all ages, with a particular focus on younger generations who have shown a growing interest in the industry. The countdown begins as the whole city is getting ready to once again welcome the watchmaking event of the year!

Altiplano Ultimate Concept

Not fully green, not blue…. This new expression of the now iconic Altiplano Ultimate Concept is one-of-a-kind. Playing on subtle cobalt-alloy variations on the main plate and dial, Piaget brings a fresh, unexpected texture and depth to this innovative design.

Still ultra-thin and a landmark in its category without ever making compromises on the comfort and the watchmaking standards like the water resistance in an open-work watch.

And just like the Piaget Polo Perpetual Calendar in steel or pink gold, green is this season Piaget’s new shade of bold.

Altiplano Ultimate Automatic

The heir of Piaget’s watchmaking legacy and creativity is now bracing for a new look. Nestled between the bustling daily life and the black tie attire, this navy blue self-winding watch subtly contrasts its blue bridges and the pink gold case and screws. A graphic way to shed new electric light on the bold fusion of the case and the 910P ultra-thin movement that earned raging reviews at the 2021 GPHG Awards.

High Jewellery Watches

A watchmaker who became a jeweller. A posture that is unique in the industry which defined the distinctive and recognizable Piaget signature. Palace Decor, ornamental stones, diamonds and sapphires. This year more than ever, the Maison returns to its roots, nodding to its most exuberant and evocative designs from the 1960-70s.

Here, mastery and artistry meet creativity and audacity with new timepieces that pulse with the Piaget spirit: bold, distinctive, and original.

Limelight Gala – High Jewellery

A one-of-a-kind high jewellery watch that combines Piaget’s creative heritage and haute couture inspiration in one rare specimen.

Twirling under the eyes in a joyful mix of brilliant and marquise-cut gemstones, a splash of rubies, spessartites, and diamonds carefully sourced to create a beautiful harmony sheds new light on another one of Piaget’s iconic signatures: the hand-engraved Palace Decor dial.

An innovative design that breaks the tradition with style.

Limelight Gala – Malachite

From the delicately woven Milanese mesh bracelet to the hypnotic malachite dial, this Limelight Gala brilliantly reflects the spirit of audacity, ingenuity and innovation that turned Piaget’s jewelled watches from the late ’60s and 70s into thrilling contemporary objects of desire for the jet set.

Today, within the walls of the in-house ateliers, master artisans continue to harness rare skills preserved and perfected from generation to generation. Still showcasing its iconic aesthetic, with the asymmetrical lugs and cambered case, this 32mm automatic watch combines boldness with attitude.

High Jewellery Aura Watch

From 1957, when Piaget decided to work only with precious materials and devote equal passion and attention to High Watchmaking and High Jewellery, the Maison has excelled in creating elegant yet dramatic High Jewellery watches. Piaget has always anticipated the shifts in fashion and in the 60s, dthe Maison focused on the cocktail or dress watch to coordinate with jewellery for evening wear.

Back in 1989 Piaget launched the ultimate High Jewellery watch – Aura. A diamond studded bracelet fully integrated with a gem-smothered case and bracelet. The invisible setting of the diamonds enabled ripples of light to move across the dial and around the wrist thus giving the watch its name.

Now get ready to make time stand still with the all new High Jewellery Aura Watch from Piaget! Featuring an ultra-thin hand-wound mechanical movement encased in a gem-smothered bracelet, this High Jewellery watch is the perfect combination of sophistication and timelessness. This beautiful, diamond-encrusted watch features an integrated gem-smothered case and bracelet, enabling light to ripple across the dial and adorn your wrist. It also houses an ultra-thin hand-wound movement and will keep you on time with its perpetual calendar feature. With diamonds set in near-invisible settings for added luminosity, the High Jewellery watch is designed to last forever.

The contemporary classic in a modern context embodies Piaget’s twin passions, the Maison’s matchless gem-setting skill and their ultra-thin hand-wound mechanical movements. The Aura today is a show case of craftsmanship that is unsurpassable. The custom-cut baguette diamonds flow uninterrupted into shaded icy-light to midnight blue meticulously calibrated sapphires and at the heart of which is diamond-set dial in a radiant sunburst pattern.

High Jewellery Cuff Watches

It’s thrice the charm for Piaget with their three cuff watches relaunched, which in the 60s and 70s were a hallmark of the Maison’s audacity. The then highly innovative hyper-naturalism of free form design and the oval dial seemingly covered by the gold that grew over the ornamental dials from the bracelets were a total embodiment of the naturalistic theme.

The cuffs are very individualistic and each has distinct hand-graved patterns and textures highlighting Piaget’s expertise in the art of engraving and dedication to Métiers d’Or. The very divergent engraving speaks about the artistic skills of each artisan.

Piaget Swinging Sautoir – Gold

The mystical and mesmerizing gold has always been a preoccupation for Piaget, as the Maison reveres and celebrates the noble art of the goldsmith.

Now the masterworks unveiled at Watches and Wonders, inspired by Piaget icons and signatures, pay homage to these gold-working traditions and superb hand skills, the Métiers d’Or, most notably of chain-making and engraving. Inspired by an original 1969 model in Piaget’s daringly avant-garde 21st Century collection, this pendant watch features a horizontal oval case rimmed in diamonds within a gold ropework surround, the dial decorated with Palace Decor, suspended on an intricate, hand-made chain, draped through diamond circular links.

For the chain, the gold thread, custom-milled to the exact thickness, is meticulously worked by hand, twisted and intertwined into delicate links.

The tassels of unequal lengths, a Piaget signature from the 1960s and 70s, are composed of the same gold chain, accented with diamonds, to echo and balance the case. Supremely fluid and flexible, the sensual, seductively playful tactility of the tassels is made possible by unrivalled expertise.

Piaget Swinging Sautoir – Emerald

This sautoir watch, contemporizing one of Piaget’s most distinctive signatures from the 1960s and 70s, is centred on a spectacular and rare 25.38-carat oval cabochon Zambian emerald.

The draped chain is entirely hand-made from immaculately-formed twisted gold circular links, connected by diamonds and interspersed with emeralds; the chain alone took 130 hours of meticulous work. The oval case, another Piaget signature, vertically positioned to echo the cabochon emerald, is framed in a twisted gold wire and rimmed in diamonds and emeralds.

The malachite dial pays homage to Piaget’s 1960s ground-breaking creations and showcases the Maison’s incredible skills. The sautoir is finished with a three-strand fringe, a silky cascade of diamonds tipped with cabochon emeralds.

Possession

The Possession collection revolves around a spinning movement and a shape. Unique and playful, Possession is an invitation to turn life on. More than a collection, Possession is an invitation to express our personalities freely.

Both simple and sophisticated, it invites creativity and stands as a rallying sign for a community eager to experience, explore and have fun while being given a chance to tell its own story with style.

Day 4 at Watches and Wonders

Our Watches and Wonders journey has been full of novelties and surprises! We’ve seen a plethora of unique timepieces from renowned brands.

ARNOLD & SON – Ultrathin Tourbillon Gold

The Ultrathin Tourbillon collection offers a new execution in 5N red gold with a subtle silver opaline dial and a refined mother-of-pearl subdial.

To give Ultrathin Tourbillon Gold a unique and refined design, Arnold & Son has focused on materials and techniques that highlight the precious appearance of this finely honed tourbillon.

CHARLES ZUBER- Perfos Karl

Charles Zuber presents a very high-quality aerial and contrasting creation: the PERFOS KARL. A skeletonised watch realised in collaboration with the Genevan guardian of traditional material work, Cédric Johner. True to the brand’s spirit, this exclusively limited edition offers 8 pieces of 39mm in 18-carat pink gold – all unique. Each watch is full of emotion and characterised by the uniqueness of its finishes.

Set with 84 saffron orange baguette-cut sapphires, totalling 2.42 carats, each movement has been entirely transformed by hand. The PERFOS KARL, with its meticulously chosen openwork, is pierced by emptiness and bathed in sunlight thanks to the warm-coloured precious stones. Sandwiched between two sapphire crystals, like two wide-open windows on the transformation of the 01 calibre, one can glimpse the mechanical anatomy that has been revealed under the bold and expert hands of Cédric Johner: the gear train is visible.

One can make out a ballet of chamfered, satin-finished and polished-angled components. Mechanical, with automatic winding by means of a bidirectional oscillating micromass in platinum set with 39 brilliant-cut orange sapphires totalling 0.1 carats, this three-hand calibre, initially made with 164 components and 33 jewels, naturally lent itself to future developments, such as skeletonisation. Several components have been modified and opened up, notably the plate, bridges and wheels of the gear train.

PIAGET Polo Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin – Obsidian

Ornamental stones have always been Piaget’s signature, celebrating their natural sense of mystery, strength, and vivid, intense hues. The dial emanates an emotion and intrigue. The new Piaget Polo Perpetual Calendar Obsidian has an iridescence due to the inclusions forming when the drops of mineral-rich sulfide liquid get trapped in the rock as it solidifies. Mother Nature makes these irregularities rare and every stone becomes unique. Piaget has paired this exceptional obsidian gemstone with a white gold case and a perpetual calendar, one of watchmaking’s most historic and emblematic complications. Thus giving the design an androgynous and sensuousness that is unparalleled.

The bezel carries forward Piaget’s love affair with coloured stones and is set with deep blue sapphires in mysteriously dark claws that enhance the allure of the dial. Limited to 18 collectable editions, this rare timepiece is a luxury of very few. It has an interchangeable rubber bracelet if you want to flaunt it daily.

ROGER DUBUIS – Excalibur Blacklight Spin-Stone™ Monobalancier

The fully integrated Manufacture is the birthplace of ground-breaking innovations, among them the uniquely shaped spinels named Spin-Stones™. Grading from red to blue and coated with SuperLumiNova, the stunning gems always shine in colour – by day, night, or under UV light-and give birth to the Excalibur Blacklight Spin-stone™ MB edition while taking colourful luminescence to new heights.

U-BOAT ITALO FONTANA CAPSULE 50MM T5 BK BE

REF. 8805

Seven years after the first launch, Italo Fontana brushes up this astonishing design with a new Capsule watch still drawing inspiration from the 30s bathyspheres. With a thick and domed sapphire crystal amplifying the view on the dark dial with a magnifying glass effect and sealed to the case through an external and independent bezel, the watch allows a long see-through slit with a view on the dial and running all around the watch circumference.

Limited edition to 90 pieces only, the Capsule watch features a grade 5 titanium case in 50mm size. Black dial with indexes and numbers treated in beige superluminova and the 24h indicator. Inside the watch, the precision of the Swiss movement with a Sellita SW200 automatic calibre is modified to the U-BOAT specifications, which beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a 41h power reserve.

ULYSSE NARDIN – Freak 2001

A FREAK IS BORN

Launched in 2001, the first Freak is recognised as the single most iconoclastic act of horological audacity in the history of modern watchmaking. As the first “hyperwatch” that heralded a new era, it smashed every convention known to watchmaking in its own inexorably freaky way. Featuring an ultramodern and disruptive design of the 12-hour tourbillon carrousel, it was the first timepiece ever with no crown, no dial and no hands. Movement is king. The rotation is given by the movement of the watch itself: a gear train and escapement revolve once every hour and indicate the minutes. The time is adjusted by rotating the bezel and the watch is regulated by a new miniaturised Dual Direct Escapement with the introduction for the first time ever of silicon escapement wheels. Silicon is light and elastic and has low-friction properties and high resistance. In 2001, adopting it in watchmaking was radical – and expensive. Fast-forward two decades and it is now mainstream.

The technical virtuosity of Ulysse Nardin, with a movement deconstructed to express time on its own, led a counterrevolution that has changed the face of watchmaking forever by rewriting its codes and fomenting a revolution on three fronts — design, mechanical and material. Being the first wristwatch wherein mechanics and aesthetics are virtually indistinguishable, the name Freak also pays tribute to Rolf W. Schnyder and Ludwig Oechslin, who were true geniuses and “freaks” in their own way, by revisiting the concept of a watch as if it had never existed before.

VAN CLEEF & ARPELS – Ludo Secret watch, diamonds

Van Cleef & Arpels reinterprets a Ludo watch from its patrimonial collection with new timepieces. In keeping with the Maison’s long-standing taste for mystery, the Ludo Secret watches preciously hide a dial-in guilloché white mother-of-pearl.

ZENITH- Pilot Big Date Flyback Ceramic

The new PILOT Big Date Flyback honours the aviation pioneers who dared to dream beyond the horizon. It reminds us that we can all pursue our dreams and rise to any challenge. This watch’s timeless design captures the spirit of these brave individuals who pushed boundaries and achieved greatness. It calls us all to take risks and reach our goals with passion and determination. In addition, many new functions are designed specifically for this PILOT collection.

The prominent oversized date display in the PILOT Big Date Flyback features a next-gen patented compliant mechanism that advances and stabilises both of the big date’s wheels in less than 0.03 seconds. Also, the flyback function allows the chronograph function to be reset to zero, making it easier for the PILOT’s operations and offering the possibility of recording consecutive times without stopping.

20 Days to Watches and Wonders 2022

The moment journalists, retailers and clients of the 38 exhibiting Maisons have been waiting for… Watches and Wonders Geneva will finally open its doors on 30 March 2022, for a week filled with exciting discoveries. A vast digital system has been set up to allow invited guests and the general public to follow online either live or via replay all the action of the Salon, which is already shaping up to be THE watch industry event of the year.

While the press, retailers and guests invited to the Salon can already plan their personalized program on the watchesandwonders.com platform, in Geneva the excitement is reaching a fever pitch. The set-up of the different exhibition areas is already underway to ensure that visitors can be welcomed while respecting health measures. In the surrounding manufactures and ateliers, the watchmakers are putting the final details to the new watches and jewelry collections that will be unveiled by the Maisons on March 30.

For its first physical event under the name Watches and Wonders Geneva – since last year’s event was entirely digital – the Salon will focus on major launches, previews, exceptional pieces and numerous new wonders. Aside from being featured in the Touch & Feel sessions, products will also be at the heart of discussions over many organized events, such as the Morning Show, the panel discussions and the innovative projects unveiled in the LAB.

Broadcast live from the Salon every morning at 8 am CET on the watchesandwonders.com platform and on its YouTube channel, The Morning Show will be presented this year by Olivia Chang, a renowned business journalist. She will host this first morning program with cross conversations between brand leaders and industry experts to follow the news of the Salon and decipher new trends. She will be back again at 7 pm CET on the Late Show, a new rendez-vous that will review the day’s highlights. Also broadcast live and in replay, the program will feature a different guest each day, who will be invited to share his or her favorites from the Salon. The Late Show will also offer a summary of the keynotes from the Maisons held in the Auditorium, along with highlights of the exceptional pieces being unveiled by the 38 exhibiting brands.

A daily 45-minute panel discussion, hosted by watchmaking experts and other influential personalities, will explore the issue of sustainable development in greater depth. This theme, a particularly hot topic at the moment, will be addressed from different angles, such as transparency, responsible sourcing, innovation and the circular economy. Broadcast live from the Salon at 1 pm CET on the watchesandwonders.com platform and on its YouTube channel, the program will also be available in replay.

Located in the center of the Salon, facing the Carré des Horlogers, the LAB has been designed as an ideas laboratory. This space, showcasing nearly 15 projects, will present the technological and digital innovations of the exhibiting Maisons. Highlighting eco- responsible sourcing practices, upcycling, the use of new materials, new energy sources and strategic partnerships with sustainable associations and organizations, the various initiatives will enable visitors to discover all these innovations and gain a better understanding of NFTs (Non-Fungible Token) and the world of metaverse.

Watches and Culture will also curate the ‘Time Design’ exhibition dedicated to the evolution of wristwatch design through the ages. Imagined as a journey through watchmaking creativity and illustrated by more than 100 timepieces presented in showcases designed by students of ECAL (École d’art de Lausanne), the event will also pay tribute to the work of Mr. Gérald Genta. Five pieces produced by students of the HEAD art & design school in Geneva will invite visitors to question the display of time, while an augmented reality experience will immerse the viewer in the history of a few watchmaking icons.

A broadcasting area consisting of two fully equipped studios will be available for the Maisons who wish to stay in touch with those journalists who are unable to travel to Geneva. In addition, booths equipped with a VISIODOME, a system that proved its worth last year as an optimized way of presenting products remotely, will allow the Maisons to share their latest creations with a larger audience.

Everyone is working hard to make this long-awaited edition the greatest watchmaking summit ever held in Geneva! Just 30 days to go before discovering new watches and jewelry releases, previews, major announcements, exceptional pieces and other innovations.
