Frederique Constant Redefines Everyday Elegance with the New Classics Première Collection

The styling here unashamedly emulates vintage watchmaking’s greatest classics. A typical twentieth-century font has been used for the Arabic numeral hour markers; above them glide ‘pomme’ hands that became popular in the mid-eighteenth century, while the ‘railtrack’ minute circles hark back to the Art Deco timepieces of the 1920s and their sector dials. The dial itself showcases Frederique Constant’s watchmaking expertise, with a delicately grained matte finish capturing the light on the central section and a circular sunray finish on the surrounding raised hour circle diffusing light to the markers arrayed around the dial.
Both models feature a new bracelet that adds a decidedly urban touch: a flexible five-link strap. Here too Frederique Constant demonstrates its devotion to fine watchmaking finishes, with three mirror-polished links nestled amid the two others; meanwhile the case is mirror-polished throughout, matching the similarly finished hands and hour markers. The horological pedigree of both variations is clearly visible too, thanks to a sapphire caseback that reveals the innermost workings of the automatic FC-301 calibre. The latter is a Swiss Made product through and through, developed from a highly-acclaimed La Joux-Perret base, packed with mechanical precision and boasting a power reserve of 68 hours – almost three full days.

The starting point for the FRAGMENTS collection lies in our fascination with the Japanese art of Raden: a refined technique dating back several centuries, consisting of inlaying fragments of mother-of-pearl, ivory or shell into lacquered objects to enhance their iridescent reflections and create a hypnotic sense of depth.
AWAKE offers a free and contemporary interpretation of this technique, blending different cultures and skills. In their workshops in Hanoi, master lacquerers have developed a unique method that combines natural Vietnamese Sơn Mài lacquer, renowned for its purity and brilliance, with mother-of-pearl, a universal symbol of light and elegance. Each dial is the result of a long, meticulous and entirely handmade process, demonstrating rare mastery and a true passion for the art of lacquer.

FROM SAP TO LIGHT
The creative process begins long before the first brushstroke… The lacquer used for the FRAGMENTS collection comes from the sap of the Rhus verniciflua, a tree native to northern Vietnam. It takes ten years of growth for a tree to produce just 200 ml of sap per year, harvested only in the early morning in June and July. Purified and dehydrated, this sap becomes a lacquer of incomparable transparency and brilliance, renowned for its protective properties.
Next, fragments of mother-of-pearl are selected one by one according to their color, fineness and reflections, then sprinkled delicately over the dial and adjusted one by one by hand to create a mosaic of light. The Mother-of-pearl is distinguished by its ability to capture and transform light: depending on the angle and the moment, it changes color, density and depth, evoking sometimes the calm sea, sometimes the sky at dusk.
This alchemy between organic matter and living light makes the dial a miniature landscape in constant evolution — a silent scene where time seems to stand still.
THE CREATING RITUAL: A WORK OF PATIENCE
Each dial in the FRAGMENTS collection requires nearly fifteen hours of manual work and a level of precision that only a mastered technique, repeated thousands of times, can provide.
The metal base of the dial is first prepared, then coated with a first layer of black lacquer with natural pigments, and polished to a perfect mirror finish. The mother-of-pearl fragments are then sprinkled and adjusted one by one with tweezers, according to a process that is both instinctive and skillful: the smallest ones first, to create the background, then the larger ones to create texture and relief.
Then comes the pigment phase: blue, green and pink, obtained from organic materials. These shades, sprayed on in a light veil, color the mother-of-pearl without masking its light, allowing each dial to express its personality.
Finally, around a dozen layers of pure lacquer are applied, dried, sanded and polished one by one. This is an extremely patient task, where each step reveals a new shine, sealing the fragments in an invisible case and revealing an almost infinite depth.

Rolex has chosen to introduce its very first ceramic dial on an 18 ct white gold version of the Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II. In the same material, with the same green colour and the same lustre, this Cerachrom dial and the daytime half of the green and black bezel insert echo each other perfectly.
Rolex is introducing its first-ever dial made of high-technology ceramic. This inaugural green Cerachrom component makes its debut on an Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II with winding crown on the left side of the case and date aperture at 9 o’clock, a version which additionally, this year, is presented in 18 ct white gold.
The new Cerachrom dial – created in the same way as dials in natural stone, by fitting a disc of material onto a brass plate – displays the same shade of green as the lower half of the two-colour green and black Cerachrom bezel insert that frames the watch face. This perfect tonal harmony, which remains true under all lighting conditions, is achieved by using the same type of ceramic to produce both elements.
This new version of the GMT-Master II is mounted on an Oyster bracelet equipped with an Oysterlock safety clasp.
The GMT-Master II is driven by calibre 3285, a movement at the forefront of watchmaking technology, enabling it to display the date and an additional time zone in 24-hour format, as well as the hours, minutes and seconds.
Like all Rolex watches, the Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II carries the Superlative Chronometer certification, which ensures excellent performance on the wrist.
ONE INSTRUMENT, SEVERAL TIME ZONES
Designed as a navigation aid for professionals criss-crossing the globe, the GMT-Master became the watch of choice for travellers. It has a unique and instantly recognizable design with a bidirectional rotatable bezel and a 24-hour graduated insert, which has been made available in single-colour versions as well as in various dual-colour combinations – the lower half symbolizing daytime hours and the upper signalling night-time hours. The GMT-Master, a true ‘tool watch’, has evolved continually to offer increasing technical performance. In 1982, Rolex unveiled the GMT-Master II, with a movement allowing the hour hand to be set independently of the other hands.
With traditional hour, minute and seconds hands, a triangle-tipped 24-hour hand, and a bidirectional rotatable bezel with 24-hour graduated Cerachrom insert, the GMT-Master II can display the time in two time zones simultaneously: either the local time and a reference time, or the local time and that of an alternative time zone. The date is synchronized with the local time.
HIGH-TECHNOLOGY CERAMIC
Rolex played a pioneering role in the development of special ceramics to create particular elements of its watch cases – notably monobloc bezels and monobloc bezel inserts. Not only are these materials particularly scratch resistant, their colours are also of a rare intensity and are resistant to environmental effects. In addition, thanks to their chemical composition, the high-tech ceramics are inert and cannot corrode. The brand has developed exclusive expertise and innovative manufacturing methods that grant it complete independence in the production of these ceramic components.
On the new version of the GMT-Master II, the bidirectional rotatable bezel is fitted with a two-colour, 24-hour graduated Cerachrom insert in green and black ceramic. The moulded, recessed graduations and numerals are coated with platinum via PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition). The bezel’s knurled edge offers excellent grip and can be manipulated with ease.
THE OYSTER CASE, SYMBOL OF WATERPROOFNESS
A paragon of robustness and reliability, the 40 mm Oyster case of the GMT-Master II is guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet). The middle case of the version presented is crafted from a solid block of 18 ct white gold. Its case back, edged with fine fluting, is hermetically screwed down with a special tool employed by approved watchmakers. The Triplock winding crown, fitted with a triple waterproofness system and protected by an integral crown guard, screws down securely against the case. The crystal, which features a Cyclops lens for easy reading of the date, is made of virtually scratchproof sapphire and benefits from an anti-reflective coating. The waterproof Oyster case provides optimal protection for the movement it houses.
CALIBRE 3285
The GMT-Master II is powered by calibre 3285, a movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex that was released in 2018 and introduced on the model the same year. A distillation of technology, this self-winding mechanical movement delivers outstanding performance, particularly in terms of precision, power reserve, convenience and reliability.
Calibre 3285 incorporates the patented Chronergy escapement, which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability. Made of nickel-phosphorous, this escapement is resistant to strong magnetic fields. The movement is fitted with a blue Parachrom hairspring, manufactured by Rolex in a paramagnetic alloy. The hairspring offers great stability in the face of temperature variations as well as high resistance to shocks. It is equipped with a Rolex overcoil, ensuring the calibre’s regularity in any position. The oscillator is mounted on the Rolex-designed, patented high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers, further enhancing the movement’s shock resistance.
Calibre 3285 is equipped with a self-winding system via a Perpetual rotor. Thanks to its barrel architecture and the escapement’s superior efficiency, the power reserve of this movement extends to approximately 70 hours.
OYSTER BRACELET AND OYSTERLOCK SAFETY CLASP
The GMT-Master II in 18 ct white gold with a green Cerachrom dial matched with the green and black Cerachrom bezel insert is fitted on an Oyster bracelet. Developed in the late 1930s, this three-piece link metal bracelet is known for its robustness.
The Oyster bracelet of the GMT-Master II is furnished with the Oysterlock folding safety clasp, which prevents accidental opening. It also includes the Easylink comfort extension link, developed by Rolex, that allows the wearer to easily adjust the bracelet length by approximately 5 mm. Like all Rolex watches, the Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II is covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015. From November 4 to December 10, renowned Swiss photographer Christian Coigny and Hakim El Kadiri, founder of the watch brand Elka Watch Co., are joining forces to present “Noir et Blanc” (Black and White), an exhibition celebrating the timeless aesthetic of monochrome.

When introduced in 2012, the Rendez-Vous offered women a rare combination at the time: marrying outer style and beauty with inner technical sophistication. In an era where quartz movements still dominated women’s watchmaking, Jaeger-LeCoultre quietly redefined expectations. The mechanically advanced movement that powered the first Rendez-Vous model, Calibre 967A, was developed and produced entirely in-house, specifically for the new watch.
The philosophy behind the Rendez-Vous collection can be traced back to the pioneering spirit of La Grande Maison’s founder, Antoine LeCoultre. Always forward-looking, the Maison began creating watches for women as well as men at an early stage; its feminine collections have continually captured evolving trends, and embodied women’s changing needs and desires. Since the late 19th century, when women pioneered the wearing of watches on the wrist (several decades before men were to do so), the Maison has understood the immense aesthetic and technical potential of timepieces that can also be worn as jewels and accessories. It is this philosophy that guides the Rendez-Vous collection today.
The first Rendez-Vous model in 2012 was envisaged not as a standalone but as the foundation for a full collection. A SUBTLE AESTHETIC EVOLUTION
When creating the new Rendez-Vous design, it was imperative to retain the four key aesthetic codes that define the collection: the textured guilloché dial, the ‘Floral’ numerals and hands, a complication displayed at 6 o’clock, and diamonds to express the jewellery spirit and draw the eye to the beauty of the dial.
While a total of 64 elements have been modified (including significant technical upgrades), many design changes are barely perceptible in their own right; however, taken together, they bring a notable freshness and richness to the overall aesthetic.
The new Rendez-Vous Night & Day is offered with three variations of the 34 mm case: all steel; steel with a diamond-set bezel and 18k pink gold (750/1000) with a diamond-set bezel. The new Rendez-Vous Moon, also in a 34 mm case is offered in steel or pink gold, both with a diamond-set bezel.
Emphasising the graceful allure of the collection, the redesigned case features a convex bezel, rounded sides and flattened lugs, enhancing comfort on the wrist and creating an impression of slimness.

On the dial, jewellery finishes have been subtly enhanced on all models. On the steel models with diamond hour markers, the diamonds have been slightly increased in size. On all models with gem-set bezels, the diamond size has significantly increased to further captivate the light. The tone-on-tone aesthetic and overall unity of the dial design has been enhanced: on the Night & Day steel model with non-set bezel a textured inner dial ring replaces a ring marked with dots while the other versions feature a diamond-set inner ring echoing the diamond-set bezel. The pink gold version adorns golden coloured floral numerals that match the colour of the precious metal case.

An entirely new bracelet has been designed for the collection, its exclusive lozenge-shaped links smooth, comfortable and wearing like a second skin on the wrist. The integration between bracelet and case has been improved and the bracelet can be quickly interchanged by the wearer, without the need for a special tool or technique. A second strap, in alligator leather, is included with models that are purchased with a metal bracelet. Alternatively, both the Rendez-Vous Night & Day and Rendez-Vous Moon in both steel and pink gold may be purchased with only an alligator strap.

IN-HOUSE MECHANICAL MOVEMENTS REVISITED
Complementing the aesthetic changes, both of the new Rendez-Vous models are equipped with enhanced self-winding movements. The power reserves of both calibres have been significantly increased, from 38 hours to 70 hours. The Rendez-Vous Night & Day is powered by Calibre 898 with functions of hours, minutes, seconds and a night-and-day complication, while the Rendez-Vous Moon is animated by Calibre 925, offering hours, minutes, seconds and a moon phase display, with a quick-reset moon phase adjustment button on the left case side.
