Hublot presents the MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon Sapphire Rainbow

The latest creation from HUBLOT and celebrated Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami is finally here – and it may well be the duo’s most eye-catching and exceptional creation to date. Introducing the MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon Sapphire Rainbow,
reimagining the artist’s iconic smiling flower as a sapphire sculpture set with colorful gemstones and fitted with HUBLOT’s first central tourbillon movement. A limited edition of only 20 pieces.

Transcending the preconceived notions of contemporary art, Takashi Murakami created his own art movement dubbed “Superflat”, extending from fine arts such as painting, sculptures and installations to more commercial media such as fashion and animation. Blurring the line between high and low arts, Murakami melds the aesthetic of the Japanese artistic tradition with contemporary art and culture. Of all his works, the most iconic is the smiling flower, which HUBLOT has sought to bring into a watchmaking context through several collaborative pieces.

The MP-15 is the symbol of a friendship in full bloom, born from a shared passion for breaking down boundaries and going beyond expectations. HUBLOT first began working with Murakami in 2021, with a shared drive of breaking down boundaries and going beyond expectations with their respective artforms. After  his eponymous Classic Fusion models and a series of NFT artworks paired with unique pieces, HUBLOT and Takashi Murakami took their partnership to the next level with the unveiling of the MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon for the Only Watch 2023 charity auction. Reimagining one of Murakami’s most emblematic motifs, the MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon took on the “smiling flower” and transfigured it from Murakami’s signature aesthetic into a wearable sculpture that seamlessly merges contemporary art, avant-garde watchmaking and exceptional gem-setting; the latter of which HUBLOT has pioneered with unexpected techniques and a mastering of the perfect rainbow effect. This requires carefully selecting gemstones that work together in a perfect transition of tones.

Meticulously crafted from a block of Sapphire crystal, the modestly sized 42mm smiling flower case features twelve petals. True to Murakami’s highly chromatic palette, the twelve petals feature polished Titanium inlays that are set with 444 colored gemstones in total, including brilliant-cut Rubies, Pink Sapphires, Amethysts, Blue Sapphires, Blue Topazes, Tsavorites and Yellow or Orange Sapphires. These stones are grouped together so that each petal is in a different vibrant color, just like the original Murakami smiling flower.

More than just an incredible feat of gem-setting however, the MP-15 features a truly revolutionary mechanical caliber. At the heart of the HUB9015 calibre is the central flying tourbillon, which can be admired through the domed sapphire crystal engraved with two twinkling eyes and a smiling mouth. A first for HUBLOT, the central tourbillon is an exceedingly rare type of complication that demands advanced engineering and reimagining how a mechanical movement is built. In the MP-15, it is animated by means of a manual-winding caliber that boasts an exceptional power reserve of 120 hours – enough to run for nearly a whole week. To make the winding experience as effortless as possible, HUBLOT has created a special rechargeable stylus that’s placed on the crown, which winds the twin barrels in 100 revolutions.

With this work of sculptural, wearable art, the notion of innovative and original watchmaking nonetheless takes center-stage. Surrounding the MP-15’s central flying tourbillon and keeping its view unobstructed, the hours and minutes are indicated by two hand tips that revolve around its periphery. The hands are actually positioned beneath the tourbillon cage, with just their tips bent upwards and outwards thanks to an intricate co-axial construction. Making the reading of time effortless and intuitive, the opening features a flange ring set with twelve baton hour markers, each continuing the color of the petal. The visual intrigue of the MP-15 is further
enhanced by the fact that most of the movement’s components have been skeletonized, which appear as if floating in a vacuum. A true feat of superlative watchmaking.

The finishing touch comes in the form of the strap, which is transparent and decorated with Takashi Murakami’s signature flower motif. Like the case, the deployant buckle is crafted in Sapphire crystal and Titanium.

An artistic endeavor that’s bound to garner the appreciation of contemporary art lovers for its audacity and discerning watch aficionados for its complexity, the MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon Sapphire Rainbow is a limited edition of 20 pieces, available to HUBLOT boutiques and authorized retailers around the world upon request.

ZENITH X PORTER PILOT COLLECTION IN KHAKI CERAMIC

ZENITH and iconic Japanese bag brand PORTER have come together for an unexpected yet totally coherent collaboration around the theme of travel. Together, the pair have reimagined two ZENITH PILOT models in khaki ceramic, along with a specially tailored bag made by PORTER exclusively for ZENITH: The PILOT Automatic and PILOT Big Date Flyback chronograph, each limited to 500 pieces.

The art of travel. The pursuit of pleasure in the journey rather than the destination. Since the earliest days of aviation, ZENITH has accompanied those who saw the open skies as a new world to explore with its specialized watches and instruments, going as far back as 1888 when ZENITH’s founder Georges-Favre Jacot saw the potential of aviation and decided to trademark “Pilote” in French, followed shortly by “Pilot”. The ZENITH PILOT collection is the brand’s longest running collection and has largely shaped the world of aviation watches. PORTER, a brand founded by Japanese manufacturer Yoshida & Co. in 1962, has become an established name both domestically in Japan and across the world, renowned for its minimal and functional yet meticulously crafted bags and accessories. Named after the traditional luggage porters found in hotels, PORTER excels in its use of high-quality materials and its attention to the smallest details to create highly coveted items, with a heavy influence from military designs. Coming together to celebrate their shared values and passion for travel was a natural union.

Relaunched in 2023 as a totally revamped line, the ZENITH PILOT collection draws inspiration from the entire span of aviation – past and present. The essential codes of durability, legibility and intuitiveness are respected in the modern reincarnation of the PILOT collection, which serves as the perfect canvas for this collaboration with PORTER. Combining a utilitarian approach with contemporary design elements, the result is unmistakably ZENITH. Now, across two limited editions, the distinctive PORTER touch is added to these modern classics.

The first piece in this collaborative limited-edition series is the PILOT Automatic PORTER Edition. The 40mm case with a distinct flat-top round bezel is crafted exclusively in a khaki ceramic, with an olive tone that recalls one of the signatures colours of PORTER’s bags. With its entirely matte finished surface, the case takes on a decidedly rugged look. The black PVD steel oversized crown, a defining feature of ZENITH PILOT watches, takes on an edgy angular form, while remaining easy to grip and operate – even with gloves on.

The textured, grooved dial recalls the corrugated metal sheets that made up the fuselage of many older aircrafts. Done in a khaki tone matching the case, the dial is signed both ZENITH and PORTER. Just for this special edition, the hour, minute and second hand are done in a bright orange tone that adds contrast and legibility to the dial while also recalling the orange interior of many PORTER bags, which in turn is inspired by the reverse side of aviation jackets for rescue visibility. The oversized luminescent Arabic numerals are fashioned in a sleek font and are applied as metal markers filled with white Super-LumiNova. At 6 o’clock above the date window with a white on khaki date wheel, the luminescent hour marker takes the form of a flat white line, recalling the artificial horizon instrument in plane. A source of pride for the Manufacture, the dial is signed “Pilot”, as ZENITH remains the first and only brand to hold the rights to mark its dials with the term.

 

Visible through the black PVD steel case back and specially emblazoned sapphire crystal with the PORTER logo, is the El Primero 3620 high-frequency manufacture movement. Its power reserve of 60 hours is reached by minds of a blackened oscillating weight that resembles an “artificial horizon” dashboard instrument, which informs the pilot of the aircraft’s orientation relative to the Earth’s horizon.

Completing the look, the PILOT Automatic PORTER Edition comes with two straps. The first, using a durable nylon fabric supplied by PORTER, is a khaki nylon strap with orange Velcro elements, with the signature PORTER stitched logo. The second is a khaki cordura-effect rubber strap with a black PVD steel folding buckle. The straps can be easily interchanged using the strap’s quick-release system, requiring no tools.

The second part of this sky-high collaboration is the PILOT Big Date Flyback PORTER Edition. In the same aesthetic as the three-hand version, the 42.5mm matte khaki ceramic case is set with black PVD pushers and crown. Equipped with the latest generation of the El Primero automatic high-frequency chronograph calibre, this version made exclusively for the PILOT model is endowed with two functions that are highly prized by aviators: the big date and the flyback function.

Designed with easy readability in mind, the textured khaki dial features orange hands for the timekeeping as well as the chronograph functions, with the chronograph’s 30-minute counter featuring alternating orange and white outlines to make it easier to distinguish between the 5-minute marks. The oversized date display with white numerals on khaki disks is operated by a cutting-edge patented compliant mechanism, which advances and stabilizes both of the Big Date’s wheels in less than 0.03 seconds. Originally conceived for aviators who wore thick sheepskin gloves, the flyback function allows the chronograph function to be reset to zero and restarted by a single push of a button, simplifying the pilot’s operations, and offering the possibility to record consecutive times without having to stop and restart.

The El Primero 3652 automatic high-frequency chronograph calibre with its “artificial horizon” rotor is visible through the display back with the rectangular PORTER logo on the underside of the sapphire crystal. Like its three-hand counterpart, the PILOT Big Date Flyback PORTER Edition comes with both a khaki nylon velcro strap by PORTER and a khaki cordura-effect rubber strap with a black PVD steel folding buckle, both fitted with a quick-release attachment.

Of course, this history-making collaboration wouldn’t be complete without a bag or accessory by the Japanese brand. Just for ZENITH and these two limited edition PILOT models, PORTER designed a new messenger bag into which the watch box is fitted. In the brand’s signature khaki colour on the outside, the interior was also developed exclusively for ZENITH in the Manufacture’s signature blue recalling the night sky. The bag is signed both PORTER and ZENITH.

The PILOT Automatic PORTER Edition and PILOT Big Date Flyback PORTER Edition are limited to 500 pieces each, available exclusively from ZENITH physical and online boutiques around the world.

CYRUS GENEVE KLEPCYS GMT ROYAL PURPLE

In 2020, Cyrus Genève launches the Klepcys GMT Retrograde Collection, featuring its first  in-house self-winding calibre, the CYR708, designed by master watchmaker Jean-François Mojon.

Characterised by a three-dimensional openworked dial, typical of the brand’s creations, this line highlights an original palm-tree shaped upper bridge of the calibre, which allows a view of the movement,  and an easy-to-read semi-arc indicating the retrograde 24-hour second time zone.

The Klepcys GMT Retrograde series, which in its first edition was rather classic in colour, later explored new colour variations.

After the Palm Green and Ocean Blue 2023 editions, which also introduced the first titanium bracelet in addition to the Cordura strap and are now also available with an alligator strap, Cyrus Genève is now offering its latest version in a completely new shade.

The Klepcys GMT Royal Purple is born, decked out in vivid purple, a colour associated with nobility and originality.

Equally noble is the art of watchmaking that Cyrus Genève, with Manufacture based in Le Locle, pursues, creating masterpieces of time in keeping with the high quality standards of Swiss watchmaking and giving them a unique and unconventional stylistic identity.

A time instrument designed to be “user-friendly” and intuitive, displaying local time and home time simultaneously, Klepcys GMT Royal Purple is a trusted companion for anyone wishing to travel for business or pleasure, and are also in search of an exclusive timepiece.

Unique aesthetic appeal

The case

The Klepcys case, with its distinctive cushion shape, is made up of no less than 26 parts.

With a diameter of 42 mm and a thickness of 13.9 mm, it is water-resistant to 10 ATM and is crafted from grade 5 polished/satin finished titanium, a material renowned for its hypoallergenic properties and lightness.

It fits also comfortably on the wrist thanks to its well thought-out ergonomic design.

An ever-present feature are the two functional crowns, engraved with the brand’s signature logo, which are surrounded by a grey rubber ring for a better grip.

While the crown at 3 o’clock winds the movement and sets the main time and the second time zone simultaneously, pressing the crown pusher at 9 o’clock moves the hand of the main time  forward by one hour each time it is pressed.

The three-dimensional bezel, applied to the central body of the case, has a square base with curved sides and corners that are enhanced by polished facets and a matt satin-finished top that frames the anti-reflective sapphire crystal.

The elongated lugs surrounding the twin crowns have a polished profile that contrasts with the satin-finished parts. This combination of finishes is repeated on the case back ring that frames the transparent porthole, which is sealed by four custom-made screws bearing the Cyrus helix symbol.

The openworked 3D dial

 In keeping with the Cyrus Genève style, each dial features a unique three-dimensional design. This adds depth and dynamism to the whole, giving it an exclusive and instantly recognisable brand look.

The original 3D structure of the dial, long a key feature of the Swiss Maison, is achieved with overlapping layers. A transparent, anti-reflective sapphire disc, with luminescent Arabic numerals indicating the main time, allows an unhindered view of the numerous elements of its automatic movement. Underneath is the star element:  the palm-shaped upper bridge of the calibre, which is decked out in Royal Purple, obtained by ALD treatment (Atomic Layer Deposition – a vacuum atomic layer deposition technique that generates a perfectly uniform and homogeneous coating, as well as providing superior protection against corrosion).  Exquisitely finished, it features circling finish with microbillé edging, alternating with opaque laser-finished matt flat rays.

Moreover this shade provide a pleasant visual contrast to the 4N gold-plated gear wheels, which the owner will be able to admire in action.

On the anthracite grey minute flange, the indices at 5-minute intervals are treated with Super-LumiNova emitting blue glow.

The 24-hour Dual Time Zone complication is  set in the centre of the display on a matt, opaline-grey arch edged in anthracite grey. The triangular-tipped retrograde hand indicates the home time thanks to luminescent even Arabic numerals mixed with dots.

At 6 o’clock, the light grey small seconds counter, decorated with a triangle motif, is adorned with the unique helix-shaped hand echoing the CYRUS logo. It is the same hue as the upper bridge, with a luminescent end that glows in the dark. It complements the dial in function and style.

The in-house calibre CYR708

The Klepcys GMT Royal Purple is powered by the in-house self-winding calibre CYR708, designed by Jean-François Mojon and that can be admired through the sapphire crystal glass porthole. Its regulating organ operates at 28.800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and  guarantees  55-hour power reserve, provided by a single winding barrel. The decoration of the bridges is refined, with hand-finished edges using the anglage technique. The NAC-treated surface is embellished with embossed rays with a brushed finish alternating with microbeaded flat rays. The combination of all these exquisite finishes contributes to pleasant lighting effects.

The openworked single-block oscillating mass  with sunray decoration is adorned with the Maison’s logo and the engraved motto “The Conquest of Innovation”. It  stands out in ALD-coating royal purple, the same colour featured on the dial .

Strap

This creation is  completed with a grey Cordura strap with stitching matching the dial colour fastened to the wrist with a customised folding clasp.

Previously available with rubber and Cordura  straps or titanium bracelet, for the first time anyone wishing to wear a Cyrus Klepcys GMT will be able to choose an alligator leather strap matching the dial colour.

THE CONCORDE FAMILY EXPANDS WITH A NEW 30MM QUARTZ VERSION

CONCORDE INTO THE MINI ERA

Launched to celebrate Pequignet’s 50th anniversary, the Concorde watch quickly became an iconic model for this French luxury watchmaker. This model is now available in a new 30mm quartz version.

Initially offered in 40mm and 36mm sizes and powered by the in-house Calibre Initial® movement, this collection is now available in a smaller 30mm format, driven by a Swiss-made ETA quartz movement.

This new “Mini Concorde” aligns with the smaller watches trend. Its graphic design perfectly suits its new proportions.

This model remains faithful to the original piece’s assertive style. It retains the signature design of this sporty-chic watch, incorporating all its codes. The cushion case, a subtle fusion of square and circle, and the signature steel mesh bracelet, seamlessly integrated into the case with triangular attachments, are all present. Its lancehead links are a subtle nod to the Obelisk of the Place de la Concorde in Paris, from which the collection takes its name.

The polished satin steel dial is available in 6 colors: gold, silver (with silver or gold hands and indices), British green, navy blue, anthracite grey, and pink.

CONCORDE GOES QUARTZ

This smaller “Mini Concorde” is the most feminine interpretation of the collection. It is the first Concorde version to feature a quartz movement. The Concorde 30mm is also the most affordable.

Concorde has become a trendy and timeless collection. It expanded earlier this year with the arrival of a jeweled version and a gold variation with a leather strap.

This latest small-diameter quartz version perfectly complements the Concorde family, the new flagship of the Pequignet Manufacture.

PEQUIGNET, ENDURING WATCHMAKING EXCELLENCE

As a French high-end watchmaking manufacture, PEQUIGNET holds the label of “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant”. The conception and production of its watches and movements take place in its workshops located in Morteau, at the heart of the French Jura. Founded in 1973 by Émile Péquignet, this watchmaking house has always created timepieces that break free from conventional codes and norms.

Independent, it became a manufacture in 2010, creating exceptional calibres such as the Calibre Royal® in 2011, followed by the manually wound Calibre Royal® in 2018, the Calibre Initial® in 2021.

In 2021, PEQUIGNET joined Enowe Excellence, an organization founded by Hugues Souparis, a former industrialist and entrepreneur committed to supporting French excellence in craftsmanship. In 2024, once again asserts its French specificity by designing a flying tourbillon, the Calibre Royal® Tourbillon, the fourth in-house movement.

Louis Moinet unveils FUEGO NUEVO: Sun’s Rebirth

This timepiece recalls the feast of the New Fire (Fuego Nuevo), a ritual that marked the rebirth of the sun and the renewal of time cycles, symbolised by the Piedra del Sol, the Sun Stone, one of the most emblematic works of Aztec art.

For the FUEGO NUEVO, the engravings on the Piedra del Sol have been reinterpreted on an ancient meteorite, reasserting the powerful connection between cosmos and the passage of time in an especially mesmerising manner.

“I have always been fascinated by ancient civilisations, especially Mesoamerican cultures and their very advanced astronomical knowledge. They saw the cosmos as more than just a collection of stars but also as a great symbol of life’s eternal cycles.
To reproduce this vision on the FUEGO NUEVO, I opted the Muonionalusta meteorite as a backdrop and laser engraving as the technique to reproduce the Aztec Sun Stone. FUEGO NUEVO: The Sun Stone times the “New Fire”

The Piedra del Sol is a monumental sculpture of Aztec civilisation. Carved during the reign of Emperor Axayacatl, it was created to commemorate the Festival of the New Fire in 1479. This sacred ritual, celebrated at the end of each 52-year cycle, marked the rebirth of the sun and the perpetuation of the cosmic cycles that gave rhythm to Aztec life.

This giant disc, which measures 3.6 metres in diameter and weighs 24 tonnes, is carved out of a block of basaltic olivine lava. It is now on display at Mexico City’s National Museum of Anthropology, where its magical aura draws crowds of amazed visitors.

Ancient meteorite and technology combined

In homage to the Piedra del Sol, the FUEGO NUEVO dial is made of a disc cut from one of the oldest meteorites discovered on Earth, the Muonionalusta. Formed 4.5 billion years ago, this meteorite reveals those famous, remarkable, geometric Widmanstätten patterns created inside the rock by millions of years of space travel.

This cosmic gem has been transformed into a work of art using modern technology. Producing the dial’s decoration required enormous precision, which could only be delivered by a laser with ultra-short pulses in the femtosecond range. It took a whopping 9,800 lines of sketches to reproduce the many references to Aztec cosmogony. Then, to add depth and relief, the dial features three levels. A ring of aventurine adds contrast around the base, giving the whole work an air of mystery. The 0.5-millimetre meteorite disc is engraved at two depths, namely 0.2 and 0.1 millimetres. The impressive three-dimensional dial perfectly represents the intersection of history, art and technology.

An horological star: the flying tourbillon

The FUEGO NUEVO is equipped with the LM135 caliber designed and developed by Louis Moinet in collaboration with Concepto. The mechanism includes a flying tourbillon with off-centre cage at six o’clock, which defies gravity in a striking and captivating way. Its hand-wound mechanism is equipped with a double barrel. This particular system, known as “volte face”, enables the two barrels to be arranged serially head to tail and therefore to discharge simultaneously, producing a 96-hour power reserve.

A noble case

This exceptional work of art is delicately framed by a 40 mm-diameter red-gold case with well-defined, flowing curves. The sapphire dome, a true feat of high-tech, reveals the fascinating details of the Sun Stone engraving. The openworked lugs perfectly underscore the integration of the bracelet.

In 1954, the Porsche 550 Spyder, driven by Hans Herrmann, clinched a class victory in this daunting race. This triumph lay the foundation of Porsche’s prowess in endurance racing and solidified its reputation for engineering superiority. The 550 Spyder, with its sleek design and advanced double overhead-cam engine, became an icon of automotive innovation and performance.

In 1962, Jack Heuer was inspired by tales of the Carrera Panamericana race’s danger and excitement, shared with him by the parents of Mexican racing legends Pedro and Ricardo Rodríguez. This fascination led him to create a chronograph named the Heuer Carrera, a name that perfectly captured the spirit of adventure, precision, and the constant pursuit of excellence. An Unstoppable Duo

Fast forward 36 years since the 1988 relaunch of the race, which is still ongoing today, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana continues this legacy of excellence and innovation. Launched for the Carrera Panamericana race, this timepiece celebrates history and the powerful partnership between TAG Heuer and Porsche, much to the delight of TAG Heuer and Porsche fans and watch aficionados.
The new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana’s design draws direct inspiration from the iconic Porsche 550 Spyder racecar. The skeleton dial, with its elaborate details, mirrors the wheels of the 550 Spyder, while the color scheme — silver, yellow, and black are directly drawn from the original vehicle’s livery. The yellow lacquered hand and subdial hands represent an extra added distinctive sporting touch in the watch.

The shimmery effect on the dial plate and subdials evokes the 550 Spyder’s bodywork, and the grained effect on the skeleton dial – whose shape is inspired by the 550’s racing wheels – symbolizes the asphalt texture of the road, adding a sporty and racing touch. Through the dial, the snail-brushed movement plate finish is visible, marrying technical savoir-faire with timekeeping beauty.

The 42mm watch’s construction features a stainless steel case with fine-brushed and polished alternating finishes, and an engraved “Spyder” logo on the side, resonant of the original font used by Porsche in the 1950s. The curved flange is adorned with the Porsche logo, and the “Panamericana” marking at six o’clock on the dial is a hint to the legendary race.

The timepiece boasts a domed sapphire Glassbox crystal paying homage to similarly domed hesalite crystal designs from the 1970s. Reengineered to have a curve that flows seamlessly over the flange, it runs along the edge of the dial, blending into the case. This innovative design offers an easy reading of the indications on the dial, perfect for any racer on the most demanding roads.

The black perforated calfskin leather strap, with a yellow lining and stitching, adds a subtle sportiness and vintage charm, further enhancing its appeal. The strap’s visible lining on the side is a novel design element that enhances the watch’s athletic aesthetic.

At the heart of this masterpiece is the TH20-09 in-house tourbillon movement, offering a 65-hour power reserve for ultimate precision. The Porsche steering wheel mass – which can be seen in all of the past TAG Heuer x Porsche watches – visible through the sapphire caseback, serves as a unique
tribute to the automotive inspiration behind this timepiece.

Limited to just 255 pieces, this edition is a nod to the number “55”, which decorated the Porsche 550 Spyder during its victorious run in the 1954 Carrera Panamericana. Each watch is individually numbered and features a special engraving “LIMITED EDITION” that highlights its exclusivity.

The luxurious packaging, crafted from lacquered wood in black with personalization in the yellow Pantone of the piece, adds an extra layer of sophistication and exclusivity to the piece.

As was the case in 2023, Porsche and TAG Heuer will again present a unique one-off Porsche car, to celebrate both marques’ relationship with the Carrera Panamericana, to be revealed during the race’s stint in Mexico City.

The independent Swiss watch brand Speake Marin is pleased to renew its participation in the second edition of the “TimeForArt” charity auction, organised by the Swiss Institute of New York for the benefit of Contemporary Art.
To mark the occasion, the Geneva-based Manufacture has created a bespoke timepiece from its “Art Series” Collection called Promenade à New York (A Walk in New York City). Speake Marin welcomes this initiative with great enthusiasm, sharing with the artistic world the same desire to explore new paths in design, technical innovation and craftsmanship in the production of its timepieces.

The painstaking study of the style, the meticulous attention to details, the state-of-the-art calibres from the in-house workshop “Le Cercle des Horlogers” in La Chaux-de-Fonds, and the excellence of the handcrafted finishes, make each Speake Marin watch a true masterpiece. Like paintings, sculptures or other works of art, they are intended to evoke strong emotions in their connoisseurs.

Inspiration

The exclusive and precious one-off Promenade à New York draws its inspiration from Christelle Rosnoblet, President and CEO of Speake Marin, and her fond memories of a long stay in New York. The precious mother-of-pearl dial of this creation becomes the blank canvas on which the flashbacks of her leisurely Sunday walks in Central Park take shape. And the mind lingers on the picturesque Gapstow Bridge, reproduced in a magnificent micro-painting by the skilful hands of the artist who has captured and enhanced the many details.

A timeless design for the case

When it comes to choosing the watch of our dreams, it is the round shape that is the most attractive and the most popular. But creating a round case with a strong personality is not an easy task. A task, however, that Speake Marin has mastered brilliantly with its now iconic Piccadilly case. The harmoniously sculpted case with its soft, sinuous lines is made of grade 5 titanium with a polished/ satin finish. A material that is renowned for its lightness and resistance to corrosion and which fits comfortably on the wrist.

42 mm in diameter, it has a brushed middle case, a flared and grooved crown for easy gripping, embellished with the Maison’s logo and geometric lugs with screws securing the taupe leather strap with orange lining fastened by a titanium pin buckle.

Water-resistant to 3 ATM, the case features an anti-reflective sapphire crystal to protect the dial and the case-back porthole that reveals the superb calibre that powers this unique watch. The case back is hand engraved with the words ‘TIME FOR ART 1/1’ to underline the event for which it was conceived and its uniqueness.

A painting or a dial?

It’s a hand painted dial!

The Promenade à New York has a unique, one-of-a-kind display. A dial that required precise and meticulous preparation to ensure an excellent end result. After the selection the finest mother-of- pearl applied on a rhodium-plated dial base, generating fascinating light reflections, a grid was drawn to define the precise proportions of each figurative element. Blue brush strokes were then applied to the rear of the mother-of-pearl disc. This was done to add depth to the scene and create the effect of water reflections in Central Park’s artificial pond.

Brushes and paints capture the impressive Gapstow Bridge in an evocative autumn landscape, where the foliage turns gold, bronze and orange, contrasting with the blue sky, the imposing skyscrapers and the sparkling reflections on the water. So many details to get lost in, painted with great care and skill, creating an exquisite micro-painting capable of arousing emotions. Now, as yesterday, we seem to be walking in the park.

A painstaking job that took about 100 hours. A precious painting that shows us the passing of time. The Promenade à New York’s functions are essential in order not to interfere with the overall vision of the micro-painting. The central hours and minutes are indicated by the distinctive steel diamond- polished and rhodium-plated hands with a heart-shaped tip for the hour hand, a tribute to the brand’s British roots.

One of Speake Marin’s best-known signatures could not be missing from the dial: the small seconds at 1:30, represented by a rhodium-plated and polished hand in the shape of the emblematic topping-tool, echoing the Maison’s logo.

A high-performance movement

Promenade à New York is powered by the in-house self-winding movement SMA03, designed and manufactured in-house by Le Cercle des Horologers in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Featuring a micro-rotor perfectly integrated into the components that contribute to the slimness of the case, has a regulating organ operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and a single barrel that guarantees a 52-hour power reserve in the unworn state.

Like all Speake Marin manufacture movements, the SMA03 calibre, comprising 147 parts, is a testament to high chronometric reliability and excellent craftsmanship. From the circular-grained mainplate to the bridges finished in Côtes de Genève and the polished bevelled profiles. The rhodium-plated topping tool above the integrated micro-rotor adds a touch of lively colour to the ensemble.

The exclusive Promenade à New York will be auctioned by Phillips Auctioneers, along with the creations of the other 24 watch brands contributing to the charity auction, at an estimate bid price between CHF 40.000 and 80.000.

The engraved geometric motif consisting of the four-pointed star, an emblem of past DEFY models from as far back as 1969, is given a new chromatic context in this special edition. Known for her monumental murals, like the one at the World Trade Center’s Oculus station, and live performances, Shantell Martin has made a mark in the art world through diverse projects. She’s held solo exhibitions at venues like the Rockefeller Center in New York City and the Vardan Gallery in Los Angeles. Free from traditional hands, this watch reads time like words on paper, making its surface an ideal space for art and time to coexist.

A QUASI-HYPNOTIC MARVEL

This exceptional watch is animated by the fourth «in-house» movement by PEQUIGNET, based on the prestigious Calibre Royal® and named the Calibre Royal® Tourbillon. .

Traditionally mounted at 6 o’clock, the flying tourbillon is designed without an upper bridge, giving the impression of a weightless cage and creating a fascinating and hypnotic visual effect. This one-minute tourbillon, equipped with a concentric balance, features a titanium cage, a material that is particularly delicate to work with for such small components.

Another technical and aesthetic advantage: PEQUIGNET flying tourbillon is visible from both the dial and the bridge side, offering a complete view of the mechanics. Built on the foundation of the Calibre Royal® with a 3Hz frequency, it retains all its features, including an impressive power reserve of at least 88 hours.

This movement is designed to be admired, visible from both the dial side and the back. Entirely hand-decorated, it reveals its high-quality finishes: beveling, Côtes de Genève, circular graining, circling, sandblasting and drawing. A true masterpiece!

The Royale Tourbillon is housed in a 44 mm rose gold case, featuring a stunning midnight blue “wave effect” dial, reminiscent of a gentle wave starting from the tourbillon at 6 o’clock and flowing up to 12 o’clock.

The rose gold indices and hands capture every bit of light to ensure perfect readability on the refined dial.

The Royale Tourbillon is fitted with a magnificent blue alligator leather strap, echoing the color of the dial.
