To bring together in a wristwatch a minute repeater, a split-seconds chronograph and a tourbillon regulator is a technical challenge that has rarely been met. In the Les Cabinotiers Temporis Duo Grand Complication Openface these complications benefit from Vacheron Constantin’s latest technical developments and continuous research into materials. Particular attention has also been paid to the decoration and hand-finishing of Calibre 2757 S, which comprises almost 700 components. This work is revealed through the complex sapphire dial as well as the sapphire back of the 45mm 5N pink gold (750/1000) case. This highly technical timepiece turns mechanical watchmaking into a kinetic art form that measures time.

The evolution of age-old know-how
The complications of this new Les Cabinotiers timepiece epitomise the transmission of watchmaking expertise through the generations – a core value of Vacheron Constantin. In 1819, the Maison produced a pocket watch with independent deadbeat seconds and a quarter repeater, one of the first of its kind. The watch incorporated a deadbeat seconds mechanism – a device that had been developed by various watchmakers in the late 18th century as a means of more accurately measuring very small units of time. Designed as an independent mechanism with its own gear train, it enabled the seconds hand to be stopped and restarted independently of the normal timekeeping function and is thus considered to be the forerunner of the chronograph.
The split-seconds chronograph mechanism has two coaxial hands, the second of which can be stopped to calculate an intermediate time before being restarted to catch up with the first. After the system was introduced – first with a single-hand system in 1831, then with the two-hand configuration in 1838 – Vacheron Constantin quickly incorporated these developments into its pocket chronographs.
The Maison’s chiming watches draw on an equally deep history. Minute repeaters – watches that strike the hours, quarters and minutes on demand – have been part of Vacheron Constantin’s watchmaking vocabulary for more than two centuries. The first mention of a Vacheron Constantin striking timepiece in the production records is a gold quarter-repeating pocket watch recorded in 1806.
Since then, the Maison has continued to build its expertise in striking and repeating watches. Created in 1827, the first Vacheron Constantin watch with grande and petite sonneries, is an impressive example of this savoir-faire, as are Reference 4261 dating from the early 1940s, which incorporates a minute repeater in a calibre just 3.28 mm thick, and Reference 57260 which counts a grande et petite sonnerie (the former with Westminster chimes), a minute repeater, and an alarm among its 57 complications.
A similar historic evolution applies to the tourbillon. This mechanism, which significantly enhances isochronism by mitigating the effects of gravity, is first mentioned in the Maison’s archives with an order placed in 1901 by a Parisian client for a highly complicated timepiece that was to incorporate such a regulator. Over the decades, Vacheron Constantin’s watchmakers have continued to develop the tourbillon, notably by developing technical solutions with multiple axes. The Les Cabinotiers Tourbillon Armillaire bi-axial wristwatch with a spherical hairspring and the Les Cabinotiers – The Berkley Grand Complication, featuring a triple-axis tourbillon, are outstanding examples of this expertise.
While the combination of a chronograph and a minute repeater in a movement with a tourbillon regulator has been seen in some remarkable pocket watches, it has remained rare in wristwatches. Vacheron Constantin saw this as an opportunity to create such a piece, in the tradition of the grand complication watches that have made its reputation for 270 years.
Three of Haute Horlogerie’s most emblematic complications, the chronograph, minute repeater and tourbillon are among the most difficult to create, let alone combine. Meeting the challenge, in 2022 the Maison unveiled Calibre 2757 in a single-piece edition Les Cabinotiers watch offering this rare and original combination in a single mechanism.
For the Les Cabinotiers Temporis Duo Grand Complication Openface, the watchmakers of Les Cabinotiers developed a new version of the calibre, with a spherical hairspring to further improve isochronism, and set it in a one-of-a-kind watch that reveals the beauty and complexity of the movement through an open-worked dial.
Horological mastery
The highly technical Calibre 2757 S incorporates 696 components, with the design of the movement, particularly in terms of its chronograph functions, subject to the imperative of performance. Despite its complexity, the watchmakers at Vacheron Constantin have created a movement of great finesse, barely 10.4 mm high and 33.3 mm in diameter, remaining faithful to the principles of elegance that are a signature of the Maison.
When developing the original Calibre 2757, the additional split-seconds chronograph plate was specially designed with an in-depth arrangement of its components to enhance operating efficiency. This optimisation of volumes to ensure the calibre’s thinness, was complemented by the use of new materials. Some of the wheels in the gear train have been made of titanium or electroformed in nickel-phosphorus, with a toothing profile particular to Vacheron Constantin that ensures improved penetration of the gears to prevent the second hands from shaking.
After much research, the chronograph seconds hands were made of aluminium, chosen for its rigid and ultra-light properties. Silicon, another ultra-light material that requires no lubrication, was used for one of the split-seconds levers and its insulator. These savings in component weight and friction reduce the loss of energy amplitude from the barrel. This contributes to a comfortable power reserve of 50 hours with the chronograph engaged, indicated by a display on the back of the watch.
With measurements accurate to 1/5th of a second thanks to the movement’s frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour, elapsed time is indicated on the peripheral minute track by the two central second hands, together with a 30-minute counter positioned at 2 o’clock. Because this function demands extremely high precision, Vacheron Constantin’s watchmakers opted for a construction with two column-wheels, one devoted to the chronograph and the other to the split-seconds hand.
The chronograph is controlled by a single push-piece at 2 o’clock for the basic functions (start/stop/reset) and by a push-piece at 4 o’clock for the split-seconds (stop/reset). Pressing the latter stops the second hand at an intermediate time while the first hand continues its course. When pressed again, the split-seconds hand instantly joins the first hand in the time countdown.
A centripetal regulator and spherical hairspring
The minute repeater featured in Calibre 2757 S has also benefited from technical developments at Vacheron Constantin. These include an ingenious flying strike governor. This device has two weights shaped so as to act as a brake on the governor’s rotating shaft, thus evening-out the energy released by the repeater’s spring. To achieve this, it uses opposing centrifugal and centripetal forces. When the governor spins, the centrifugal force pivots one end of the weights outwards so that the other end acts as a brake on the central shaft to bring the rotation and the strike to a steady rate.
The governor mechanism, which operates in total silence, regulates both the cadence and duration of the musical sequence so that the notes can be heard distinctly and clearly, with a complete absence of mechanical ‘background noise’. The distinctive feature of this system is its two flyweights with a shape specially designed to generate a kind of ‘motor brake’ by a centripetal force acting on the governor’s rotating shaft. This evens out the energy released by the barrel and regulated by the tourbillon.
Located at 6 o’clock, the tourbillon is fitted with a spherical hairspring, a shape that causes the spring to expand and contract concentrically, thus enhancing isochronism. The distinctive tourbillon cage is inspired by the Maltese cross, the Maison’s emblem. Held in place by a hand-bevelled bridge. the tourbillon performs one complete rotation per minute and a hand mounted on its axis indicates the small seconds.
Technical excellence enhanced by Haute Horlogerie finishes
A transparent sapphire dial is the aesthetic signature of the new Les Cabinotiers Temporis Duo Grand Complication Openface. Just 0.5 mm thick, it is distinguished by a highly complex mix of finishes: polished and frosted surfaces alternate on the counters, which are encircled by rings in 5N gold, applied by metallisation on the underside of the sapphire discs; the hour markers are treated with grey NAC and the chronograph markers are engraved and inked. The 30-minute chronograph counter hand and the two chronograph seconds hands are made of PVD-coated aluminium – their olive green colour matched by the green alligator leather strap that attaches the 45mm pink gold case to the wrist.
The sapphire dial and caseback reveal the quality of the hand-finishing on the movement components, highlighting the beauty of this kinetic artwork. Surfaces are, variously, bevelled, polished, satin-finished, grained, circular-grained, engraved and bead-blasted, creating a fascinating play of reflections and light.
Visible through the dial, the sides of the skeletonised bridges are hand-drawn and hand-bevelled and the surfaces are circled. The wheels, with their bevelled spokes, are rolled and polished, a delicate operation that requires special tools when wheels are made of titanium. The metallic colours of the moving parts contrasts with the black NAC coating on the bridges and main plate.
On the reverse side of the movement, the watchmaker has created a distinctive decoration. The surface of the blackened bridges was hollowed out then sandblasted by hand to a very fine grain and edged with a mirror-polished sink. The hand-chamfered sinks for the jewels and screws have also been mirror-polished. The beauty of the movement architecture is amplified by the contrast between the black bridges, their polished borders and the golden tones of the moving parts. The striking governor is engraved with the initials JMV, in homage to Jean-Marc Vacheron, and held by a semi-circular bridge that has been round-polished by hand – the polishing alone requiring eight hours of meticulous work.
Thanks to the meticulous attention to detail dedicated to this calibre, it took twice as long for the finishing of its components as it did to assemble and fit it into the case. As was the case for the 18th-century cabinotiers, a single watchmaker was in charge of the watch, carrying out all of the component finishing, as well as every assembly operation, right down to the adjustment and casing of the calibre. This manner of working is an eloquent testimony to Vacheron Constantin’s commitment to safeguarding the transmission of watchmaking expertise through the generations.

HIGH-TECHNOLOGY CERAMIC
Rolex played a pioneering role in the development of special ceramics to create particular elements of its watch cases – notably monobloc bezels and monobloc bezel inserts. Not only are these materials particularly scratch resistant, their colours are also of a rare intensity and are resistant to environmental effects. In addition, thanks to their chemical composition, the high-tech ceramics are inert and cannot corrode. The brand has developed exclusive expertise and innovative manufacturing methods that grant it complete independence in the production of these ceramic components.
The Cosmograph Daytona in 18 ct yellow gold with turquoise blue lacquer dial features a monobloc Cerachrom bezel in black ceramic. On the GMT-Master II in 18 ct Everose gold with tiger iron dial, the bidirectional rotatable bezel is fitted with a two-colour, 24-hour graduated Cerachrom insert in brown and black ceramic.
On these two Cerachrom components, the recessed graduations, numerals and inscriptions are moulded and then, via a PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) process, coated with a thin layer of metal – yellow gold for the tachymetric scale on the Cerachrom bezel of the Cosmograph Daytona and pink gold for the markings on the Cerachrom bezel insert of the GMT-Master II.
THE FLUTED BEZEL, A SIGNATURE FEATURE
The fluted bezel has been offered on many Classic models in the Oyster Perpetual collection since the invention of the Oyster case in 1926. Its fluting was originally used in screwing down the bezel against the middle case, thereby indirectly playing a part in waterproofness. Today, however, its role is mainly aesthetic, with each perfectly identical groove catching the light and creating myriad subtle reflections. Exclusively made in 18 ct gold or in 950 platinum, the fluted bezel is the result of the brand’s unique expertise and one of the pillars of its stylistic heritage.
The fluted bezel of the Sky-Dweller with bright green dial is fashioned from 18 ct yellow gold – the same material as its Oyster case and Jubilee bracelet.
THE OYSTER CASE, SYMBOL OF WATERPROOFNESS
A paragon of robustness, reliability and elegance, the Oyster case of the Cosmograph Daytona and GMT-Master II – both 40 mm in diameter – as well as that of the Sky-Dweller – 42 mm – is guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet). The middle case of the versions presented is crafted from a solid block of 18 ct yellow or Everose gold. Its case back, edged with fine fluting, is hermetically screwed down with a special tool employed by approved watchmakers. Both the Triplock winding crown, fitted with a triple waterproofness system and protected by an integral crown guard, and the Twinlock winding crown, with a double waterproofness system, screw down securely against the case, as do the chronograph pushers on the Cosmograph Daytona. The crystal – featuring a Cyclops lens at 3 o’clock for enhanced legibility on models with the date function – is made of virtually scratchproof sapphire and benefits from an anti-reflective coating. The waterproof Oyster case of each of the three watches provides optimal protection for the movement it houses.
CALIBRES 4131, 3285 AND 9002
The Cosmograph Daytona, GMT-Master II and Sky-Dweller are driven by self-winding mechanical movements entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. A distillation of technology, they deliver outstanding performance, particularly in terms of precision, power reserve, convenience and reliability.
The Cosmograph Daytona is equipped with calibre 4131, which enables the watch to measure intervals of time via the chronograph function, in addition to displaying the hours, minutes and seconds. Released in 2023, it was introduced on the model the same year and is exclusive to this watch. Calibre 4131 demonstrates carefully finished aesthetics, including bridges decorated with Rolex Côtes de Genève and a cut-out oscillating weight.
The GMT-Master II has been fitted with calibre 3285 since the movement’s introduction in 2018. It provides the model with the date function and an additional time zone in 24-hour format, as well as the hours, minutes and seconds.
The Sky-Dweller is powered by calibre 9002, furnishing the watch with an annual calendar – date and month – and an additional time zone in 24-hour format, together with the hours, minutes and seconds. Introduced in 2023, calibre 9002 is exclusive to this model.
All three calibres incorporate the patented Chronergy escapement, which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability. Made of nickel-phosphorous, this escapement is resistant to strong magnetic fields. These movements are fitted with a blue Parachrom hairspring, manufactured by Rolex in a paramagnetic alloy. The hairspring offers great stability in the face of temperature variations as well as high resistance to shocks. It is equipped with a Rolex overcoil, ensuring the calibre’s regularity in any position. The oscillator is mounted on the Rolex-designed, patented high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers, further enhancing the movements’ shock resistance.
Calibre 4131, calibre 3285 and calibre 9002 are equipped with a self-winding system via a Perpetual rotor. Thanks to their barrel architecture and the superior efficiency of their escapement, the power reserve of these movements extends to approximately 72 hours, 70 hours and 72 hours respectively.
OYSTERFLEX, OYSTER AND JUBILEE BRACELETS
The Cosmograph Daytona with turquoise blue lacquer dial and bright black counters is fitted on an Oysterflex bracelet. Developed by Rolex and patented, this bracelet is made up of two flexible, curved metal blades – one for each of the sections – overmoulded with high-performance black elastomer.
The GMT-Master II with dial in tiger iron is mounted on an Oyster bracelet. Developed in the late 1930s, this three-piece link metal bracelet is known for its robustness.
The Sky-Dweller with bright green dial features a Jubilee bracelet. Supple and comfortable, this five-piece link metal bracelet was specially created for the Oyster Perpetual Datejust, launched in 1945.
The Oysterflex bracelet of the Cosmograph Daytona and the Oyster bracelet of the GMT-Master II are each equipped with the Oysterlock folding safety clasp, which prevents accidental opening, while the Jubilee bracelet of the Sky-Dweller is fitted with a folding Oysterclasp.
The Oysterflex bracelet is furnished with the Rolex Glidelock extension system. Developed by the brand and patented, this inventive mechanism with a rack located under the clasp cover enables fine adjustment of the bracelet length, without the need for tools. The Rolex Glidelock on the Oysterflex has six notches of approximately 2.5 mm, allowing the length of the bracelet to be effortlessly adjusted up to some 15 mm.
The Oyster bracelet of the GMT-Master II and the Jubilee bracelet of the Sky-Dweller feature the Easylink comfort extension link, developed by the brand, which allows them to be easily lengthened by approximately 5 mm. Made of 18 ct Everose gold and 18 ct yellow gold respectively, they include patented ceramic inserts – designed by Rolex – inside the links to enhance their flexibility on the wrist and their longevity.
SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER CERTIFICATION
Like all Rolex watches, the Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona, Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II and Oyster Perpetual Sky-Dweller are covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015. This designation testifies that every watch leaving the brand’s workshops has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories according to its own criteria, following the official certification of the movements by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC). These in-house certification tests apply to the fully assembled watch, after casing the movement, guaranteeing superlative performance on the wrist in terms of precision, power reserve, waterproofness and self-winding. The precision of a Rolex Superlative Chronometer is of the order of −2 /+2 seconds per day – the rate deviation tolerated by the brand for a finished watch is significantly smaller than that accepted by COSC for official certification of the movement alone.

DIVING INTO THE PAST
The Black Bay line was conceived with the past in mind. Honouring the important designs that laid the foundation of TUDOR’s unique aesthetic is of the highest importance. While the Black Bay line has always incorporated signature elements of past TUDOR dive watches, the Black Bay 54 is perhaps the most true-to-form Black Bay to have been created thus far. The Oyster Prince Submariner reference 7922 is a formidable candidate to draw inspiration from, as it was known to have been evaluated and consequently adopted by the French and US Navies and widely used by diving professionals. The earliest iterations of the 7922 used a “small crown” and eschewed the later emblematic red triangle at 12 o’clock for a cleaner, more uniform aesthetic. The Black Bay 54 follows this tradition. In fact, the Black Bay 54 recalls a number of small design details that make a big difference. Take the hands for instance, in addition to proportional adjustments, they’re pinched at the base, the same way they appeared in 1954. The bezel edge has been redesigned as well, with a modernized take on the ergonomic pattern of the 7922. Of course, the Black Bay 54 still features thoroughly modern touches, like a subtle sand-textured dial and a “T-fit” clasp for the perfect fit. And of course, the cutting-edge Manufacture Calibre MT5400.
THE MANUFACTURE CALIBRE MT5400
The Manufacture Calibre MT5400, with which the Black Bay 54 is equipped, displays hour, minute and second functions. It has the finish typical of TUDOR Manufacture Calibres: Its rotor in tungsten monobloc is openwork and satin-brushed with sand-blasted details, and its bridges and mainplate have alternate sand-blasted, polished surfaces and laser decorations.
Its build is designed to ensure robustness and precision. To do this, the variable inertia balance wheel is maintained by a sturdy traversing bridge with a two-point anchoring. This system, together with its non-magnetic silicon hairspring, enables the Manufacture Calibre MT5400 to function within a tolerance range of 6 seconds (-2/+4) tested on a fully assembled watch.
Another notable feature is that the power reserve of the Manufacture Calibre MT5400 is “weekend-proof”; that is to say, it has a 70-hour power reserve, which enables the wearer to take the watch off on a Friday evening and put it back on again on Monday morning without having to wind it. Even if you need a weekend away, your watch does not.
5-LINK STEEL BRACELET
The Black Bay 54 is fitted with an entirely satin-brushed 5-link steel bracelet, complete with the TUDOR “T-fit” clasp equipped with a system for rapid length adjustment. Easy to use, requiring no tools and offering five positions, this practical system allows wearers to carry outa fine, instant adjustment of the total length of the bracelet along an adjustment window of 8mm. The clasp features ceramic ball bearings that ensure a smooth and secure closure in addition to adding a pleasing tactile element to the action of the clasp.
THE ESSENCE OF BLACK BAY
The Black Bay line features dials inspired by the TUDOR divers’ watches produced during the 1950s. It borrows the characteristic angular hands known to collectors as “Snowflake” from models that appeared in the brand’s 1969 catalogue. Its unprotected crown and the characteristics of its case are reminiscent of the first generations of TUDOR divers’ watches.
The Black Bay line is the result of the subtle blend of traditional aesthetics and contemporary watchmaking. THE TUDOR MANUFACTURE
Every TUDOR watch is assembled and fully tested to TUDOR’s superior standards at the new TUDOR Manufacture located in Le Locle, Switzerland. This new state-of-the-art facility, bringing together the know-how of watchmakers with the best in production management and automated testing systems, was completed in 2021 after three years of construction. Q: How is Franck Muller evolving in the Indian luxury market? A: India has become one of our strongest growth stories. After a strategic restructuring five years ago, we’ve built a solid foundation. We now operate 12 points of sale and are planning to add 3–4 more in the near term. In terms of performance, we’re second only to Rolex in this market—proof that India is not just evolving, it’s responding powerfully to what we offer.
Q: What makes the Indian market so unique for Franck Muller? A: India is emotional, responsive, and highly attuned to craft. The more we invest in this market—through design, service, or engagement—the more it gives back. It’s not transactional; it’s a relationship. That fits perfectly with how we operate.
Q: Is there a collection made specifically for India? A: Yes, and we’re very proud of it. We’re about to unveil a limited-edition collection of 108 pieces, hand-engraved, designed with Indian collectors in mind. It’s been four months in the making—just the dial alone. The collection hasn’t even been officially announced, and it’s already sold out. That says everything about India’s appetite for meaningful artistry.
Q: What sets Franck Muller apart from other Swiss luxury watchmakers? A: Our identity is instantly recognizable. We trademarked the Cintrée Curvex case over 30 years ago—an iconic shape that became our design DNA. Our numerals, dial layouts, and complications are all distinct. When someone sees a Franck Muller, they know it’s a Franck Muller. That level of visual signature is rare in watchmaking.
Q: How strong is your after-sales and service presence in India? A: Very strong—and improving each year. We have a central service hub for India with dedicated sales support and technical teams. Every purchase comes with a 3-year warranty (5 years for complications), and we aim to respond quickly to any service needs. After-sales is critical in building trust, and we take it seriously.
Q: How do you maintain long-term relationships with collectors here? A: By staying close. We host clients regularly at our boutiques—not to sell, but to connect. We invite them to view novelties, talk trends, and just engage with the brand. It’s about creating an emotional bond. Collectors aren’t just looking for rare pieces; they want dialogue, discovery, and respect.
Q: What trends are you noticing in Indian collectors’ preferences? A: A definite shift toward more refined, complicated watches—tourbillons are gaining traction. There’s also growing demand for smaller, elegant timepieces, especially in our ladies’ collections. Collectors are craving uniqueness—different dials, rare materials, new forms. The industry has been recycling the same formulas for years. That fatigue is pushing people to look beyond the usual suspects—and they’re finding us.
Q: Any notable pieces recently acquired by Indian collectors? A: The Giga Tourbillon stands out. It’s a technical marvel with a 9-day power reserve and double barrel. We sold one in India recently. There are more unique pieces, but I’d have to check our records to name specifics. Still, it shows the market’s appetite for true haute horlogerie.
Q: How is Franck Muller approaching online retail in India? A: Carefully. E-commerce in luxury requires nuance. We’re already selling our Crypto Collection online, as it caters to a digital-first audience. We’re considering expanding online offerings— especially select ladies’ models—but only through official channels. Every online sale is backed by our full warranty and service network in India. But the experience must be curated, not diluted.
Q: How important is storytelling to Franck Muller’s identity? A: It’s everything. Every collection has a narrative. Take the Sfumato dial—it captures the texture and feeling like a twilight over Amalfi rooftops. Or our new CX Mineral collection, made from Jasper, Malachite, and Lapis—stones shaped by elemental pressure over time, like the stories we tell through our watches.
Q: Can you talk more about Franck Muller’s dial expertise? A: We are arguably one of the strongest in the industry when it comes to dials. We own our dial manufacturing and specialize in techniques like guilloché, enamel, and hand engraving. It’s a huge point of pride—and a big reason our watches look and feel different.
Q: Are there any upcoming celebrity or influencer partnerships in India? A: Yes, we’re actively exploring new collaborations. We’ve had success in the past and understand how influential celebrity culture is in India. You’ll see more of that very soon.
Q: What’s your view on Indian luxury watch media? A: It’s progressing well. But more can be done on both sides. Brands need to engage more proactively, and media should continue building deep, knowledgeable coverage. Consistent communication and shared vision will elevate the whole space.

The Superocean Heritage is back – sharper, sleeker, and ready for a season of sun and surf. Breitling’s most elegant sea watch has been refined in all the right ways, balancing vintage style with breezy modern sophistication. Every detail has been fine-tuned, from the size assortment to the addition of the new B31 manufacture movement. With this refreshed design, Breitling is also rolling out a limited edition co-designed by surfing G.O.A.T. The Superocean Heritage is no ordinary sea watch – it never was. When Breitling first launched it in 1957, it took a different tack from other dive watches of the era. The Ref. 1004 (a sleek time-only piece) and Ref. 807 (the world’s first dedicated dive chronograph) weren’t just about exploring the underwater world – they were about looking good doing it. The automatic models, in 44 mm, 42 mm, and 40 mm introduce the B31 movement, Breitling’s first exclusive three-hand manufacture caliber, newly launched in March. THE FIRST MINUTE REPEATER IN THE OVERSEAS COLLECTION
HAUTE HORLOGERIE PROWESS
The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Grand Complication Openface is the outcome of a long process to meet the challenge of integrating a grand complication mechanism into an elegant case. In addition to a tourbillon and a perpetual calendar, this movement incorporates a minute repeater, a first in the collection. Generally speaking, water resistance is difficult to achieve with minute repeater calibres due to the sliding mechanism in the case-side that activates the repeater. The challenge with this model was to ensure the water-resistance of the Overseas case, while adapting its lines to Calibre 2755 QP. This required a year and a half of research and development and involved a complete redesign of the caseback to create space for the minute repeater mechanism while maintaining the slender curves characteristic of Overseas watches. With a diameter of 44.5 mm and a height of 13.1 mm, the proportions of this new Overseas case deftly balance the collection’s adventurous character with a spirit of elegance.
AN EMBLEMATIC CALIBRE
One of Vacheron Constantin’s emblematic movements, Calibre 2755 QP benefits from developments made for the Tour de l’Île watch presented in 2005 and brings together three major horological complications. With its 602 components contained within a diameter of 33.30 mm, it incorporates a perpetual calendar with date, day, month and leap-year cycle indications. In addition to this calendar mechanism, which requires no correction before 2100 – a non-leap secular year – there is a minute repeater.
To govern the cadence of the repeater mechanism, which strikes the hours, quarters and minutes on demand, the Maison’s watchmakers developed a centripetal regulator, a proprietary device that allows the hammers to be struck at the precise intervals required to obtain the correct musical sequences. Totally silent, this regulator features two centrifugal weights that act as a motor brake on the axis of rotation, smoothing the flow of energy released by the repeater spring.
In keeping with Vacheron Constantin’s attention to detail, particular attention has been paid to the aesthetics of this governing device, which is visible through the sapphire caseback. An arc-shaped bar secures the regulator; crafted in 750/1000 gold its rounded form requires a full day of meticulous hand- polishing. Beneath it, the circular-grained inertia weights are engraved with the initials of Jean-Marc Vacheron, who founded the Maison in 1755.
AN EMBLEMATIC CALIBRE
The same high standards were applied to the finishing of the tourbillon bridges, which involved rounding the convex profile as well as tapering it towards the fixing screws, then hand- polishing each bridge to a perfect shine. Their architecture was also reviewed, particularly on the reverse side, where it has been made more open and visually lighter. This allows full appreciation of the tourbillon’s ballet, which is enhanced by the relatively slow tempo of 18,000 vibrations per hour (2.5 Hz). Commensurate with the complexity of Calibre 2755 QP, the movement finishes also include mirror-polished repeater hammers, bevelled and satin-brushed bridges, circular satin-brushed wheels, and bridges decorated with Côtes de Genève.
A SPORTY AND CONTEMPORARY AESTHETIC
With its grade 5 titanium case and integrated bracelet, the Overseas Grand Complication Openface watch remains true to the spirit of the collection. A faithful recreation of the original DEFY A3648 diver’s watch from 1969, the DEFY Revival Diver brings vintage charm into the modern era with a dark, faceted 37mm micro-blasted titanium case. Staying true to the original DEFY design language, the signature fourteen-sided bezel is retained, now placed above a round unidirectional rotating bezel crafted in titanium and fitted with a yellow-tinted sapphire insert. For improved ergonomics, the screw-down crown is positioned at 4:30, just as it was on the original. After a demanding 24 hours covering 3988 km, Laurent Ferrier, François Servanin and François Trisconi crossed the finish line to take third place overall in the legendary Le Mans race. To contrast with this understated dial, the livery of this new version is entirely in 5N red gold – including the case and bracelet. Composed of multiple intertwined curves, this architecture embodies every detail of this legendary race engraved in memory. The indexes and hands in 5N red gold are enhanced with white Super-LumiNova®. At 6 o’clock, a snailed small-second dial is accented by powder grey markers. As with the entire LAURENT FERRIER collection, legibility is key. It is optimised here by the minute track, which is also defined in powder grey. The logo and central cross match. A gently sloping bevelled date aperture, highlighted by a fine coordinated transfer, is delicately positioned at 3 o’clock. As with all the models in the same collection, “Sport Auto” appears as a tone-on-tone transfer positioned between the central hands and the small seconds.

Inspired by the aerodynamics of racing cars, the design of the Sport Auto 79 is characterised by a skilful interplay of rounded curves and sinuous lines. Its case in 5N red gold measures 41.5 mm in diameter and comes with an integrated bracelet in the same material. On a tonneau-shaped case middle with rounded contours, Laurent Ferrier has subtly superimposed a bezel with softened shapes, recalling the cushion-shaped silhouette of the Square model.
Each side of the case benefits from a specific finishing treatment. The bezel features a circular satin-brushed finish, highlighted by mirror-polished sides, in contrast to the case middle with its vertical satin-brushed finish. The three-link metal bracelet follows this logic of alternation, with vertically satin-brushed surfaces enhanced by sloping mirror-polished sides. Harmoniously integrated into the case middle, the generous curvature of the iconic ball-shaped screw-down crown makes it easy to grip in order to start the automatic movement. This Sport Auto model in 5N red gold features the LF270.01 movement, an automatic calibre with a micro-rotor, which was designed, decorated and assembled in the Geneva workshops. This robust and precise motor, inspired by the micro-rotor with natural escapement, is exquisitely finished by hand and is equipped with a 950 platinum oscillating weight. This micro-rotor features a laser engraved decoration which discreetly reveals numerical nods to the 1979 race – visible only to the most discerning eye.

A great many finishing stages are carried out by hand in the heart of the LF finishing workshop. Among them, the decoration of the rotor bridge stands out for its remarkable precision: the bevelling of the corners, polishing with gentian wood and diamond paste, and the mirror-polished surface finish or “brouillage” (a scratch-brushing technique) on the main plate side. In all, it takes 2 to 3 hours to complete all the finishing stages on this component alone. This expertise is also showcased throughout the movement’s components, with their highly complex interior angles, black zinc-polished surfaces, and ruthenium satin-brushed or circular-grained finishes — all orchestrated in-house in the manufacture’s workshops.
