Art, creativity, design, a never-ending story of renewal. An organic and cyclical process in which Ross, the radically distinct, generational artist, continues to grow his own creations. Like living materials, Dr. Samuel Ross’s creativity and thoughts are constantly shaping, reshaping, improving, imagining and reimagining things. For his next development on the Big Bang Tourbillon SR_A by Samuel Ross, Ross has brought subtle yet insightful details. Precision, clarity and choice are integrated through SR_A’s signature industrial language.
Constantly pushing new boundaries in terms of materials, fusion and aesthetics, Hublot has been loving Art for more than 10 years, working closely with daring, unconventional artists and designers to envision watches from new creative angles. The collaboration between Hublot and Ross began in 2020, in a three-year engineering process leading to an entirely new development, from case to crown, to dial, strap and bezel: the Big Bang Tourbillon SR_A by Samuel Ross. Just as with living materials, Ross’s creativity is constantly shaping, reshaping, improving his own thoughts, building on his first watch design to turn the watch case into a gray monochrome outfit to be worn on of the three rubber straps ranging from vivid green to black or white. A new iteration to which he has brought some subtle yet insightfully rethought details.
So, what’s new?
To assert its industrial look, Ross has opted to attire all the watch case components in shiny micro-blasted titanium, extending this to the clasp which also features a rough laser engraving of the Hublot logo. To enhance the overall gray monochrome look, the crown is overmolded in gray rubber, while the tourbillon bridge now appears in a neutral shade enabling the watch to be easily paired with one of the three smooth full rubber straps in black, white or the pop vibes of vivid green.
We are focused on crafting refined, minimal and expressive timepieces. SR_A, looks to expand, re-define and establish timeless icons of design, reflecting a spirit of innovation, optimism and craft. I firmly believe we need all three properties to usher in the next chapter of luxury. – Dr. SAMUEL ROSS Artist and Designer
From sculpture to wearable wrist sculpture
Applying Samuel Ross’s artistic language to Hublot watchmaking is exactly how he envisioned the sculpture that marked the start of his creative collaboration with Hublot in 2020 : encapsulating materials in aerodynamic, simple and striking shapes incorporating imprints of Nature’s sacred geometry to tell 40 years of Hublot history. Building on the perfect hexagonal pattern, Ross knows how to contrast hyper-technical with traditional elements to ensure a perfect fit with Hublot’s Art of Fusion vision. Just as in the sculpture he created for Hublot, Ross takes on the Big Bang tourbillon by playing on transparency with holes in the structure, as well as referencing the origins of Fusion by mixing rubber with manufactured metal. By juxtaposing contrasting materials, he has created a balance between the organic and the industrial, forged through innovation.
What defines the true nature of a collaboration between an artist and a brand? It is bringing together the best of two worlds while deeply respecting and building on the true nature of two visions. The Big Bang Tourbillon Samuel Ross, launched in 2022, has ticked all the boxes of a successful and genuine collaboration, yet one in which Ross had left a powerful imprint through his aesthetic, functional and purposeful take on our watch, remaining true to who we are while shedding light from a different angle. His new iteration represents the next steps of a never-ending story demonstrating how creativity and engineering must never be taken for granted in consistently pushing existing boundaries to enhance our own creations. – RICARDO GUADALUPE HUBLOT CEO
Mingling sacred and industrial, organic and synthetic influences
With the hexagonal honeycomb shape and its perfect six equal sides, Ross has chosen the dominant governing pattern in the natural world recalling the functionality of a watch. Exactly like every single object he has designed, the watch is conceived as a durable, ergonomic and incredibly lightweight object – in this case made to be wristworn. Transposing this sacred geometry of Nature into the watch, Ross envisioned titanium plates to be polished, brushed, hammered and perforated in order to create a lean and imposing silhouette inducing a sense of motion.
The Big Bang Tourbillon SR_A by Samuel Ross is driven by the accuracy and technical design of the 282-component Manufacture HUB6035 caliber beating at 3 Hz during its 72-hour power reserve. Just as the first release, this new iteration is produced in a 50-piece limited edition.
Ross’s story to date
Artist and Designer Samuel Ross has defined his perspective through the arts; painting, sculpture, furniture, industrial design and fashion in particular.
Through founding both companies A-Cold-Wall*, since 2015, and SR_A since 2019 Dr. Ross has pioneered a signature design language that has translated to immersive, radical collaborations, developing and establishing a global cult audience, through multi-year design partnerships with Beats, Nike, Timberland, Converse Dr. Martens, Mackintosh, RideCake, Absolut, Acqua Di Parma and Hublot.
Developing a new millennial perspective in luxury goods, through his latest and most refined brand SR_A , founded in the same year he was awarded the Hublot Design Prize, has naturally occurred.
This polymathic creative force was named on the Forbes “30 under 30 Europe” list in 2020, has won numerous distinctions including GQ Fashion Awards and British Fashion Awards, received the Hublot Design Prize in 2019 as well as been a finalist for both the LVMH Prize and the ANDAM Award. Alongside his creative collaboration with Hublot, he has made a lasting imprint through his take on brands including Dr Marten’s, Mercedes-Benz, Nike, and Oakley. His designs have been worn by celebrities like Lewis Hamilton, Idris Elba, Daniel Kaluuya, Lebron James, Jay Z, Swizz Beats, Nick Jonas, Sophie Turner, BTS, Central Cee. As an active artist, Ross has been exhibiting in various museums around the world (Victoria & Albert Museum, London, UK., National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh, Design Museum, London, UK, Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, TX, Denver Art Museum, Denver, CO, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX) as well as galleries with solo exhibitions (White Cube, Friedman Benda, Design Miami).
HUBLOT
Hublot is a Swiss watch manufacturer founded in 1980 and based in Nyon. For its first ever timepiece, this fundamentally disruptive company combined gold with a rubber strap in a case with a design inspired by a ship’s porthole (hublot in French). Thus, the Art of Fusion was born, blending tradition, innovation, craftsmanship, worlds and talents. It became the brand’s aesthetic and technical signature.
This identity was strengthened in 2005 with the Big Bang, which attested to an unrivalled know-how in terms of complications, manufacture movements and state-of-the-art materials. Carbon, titanium, ceramic and sapphire have been developed on this model to technical extremes.
This ground-breaking, high-quality approach to watchmaking is summed up in its philosophy ‘Be First, Unique and Different.’ It gradually led to other collections with innovative designs: Classic Fusion, Shaped Collection (Spirit of Big Bang, Square Bang) and Manufacture Pieces. These draw on high levels of craftsmanship, both in terms of the materials so dear to Hublot (such as Magic Gold, brightly-coloured ceramics and sapphires) and its manufacture movements (Unico chronograph, Meca-10 and large complications such as the Tourbillon, the Cathedral Minute Repeater and the specific Manufacture Pieces movements).
Hublot’s world extends to powerful partnerships including football. ‘Hublot Loves Football’ has become the slogan at the world’s biggest sporting events (such as the FIFA World CupTM, Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA EUROTM) and through its ambassadors. This love of football continues in art, design, music, sport, fine dining and sailing. Lastly, Hublot’s implication in joint environmental projects with SORAI and Polar Pod reflects its concern for the issues of the day.
Over 130 boutiques around the world share Hublot’s fervour and values, alongside the Hublot.com e-commerce site.
Hublot combines iconic design and craftsmanship with its Classic Fusion High Jewellery 2023 watch, a stunning piece of high jewellery with 431 dazzling baguette-cut diamonds.
The latest addition to Hublot’s High Jewellery collection of watches is a Classic Fusion High Jewellery 42 mm in white gold set with baguette-cut diamonds. It fits effortlessly into the brand’s High Jewellery collection alongside other iconic models such as the Big Bang, the Spirit of Big Bang and the Square Bang Unico, adorned with white gold, diamonds and even rainbow-coloured gemstones. The Classic Fusion High Jewellery 42mm combines iconic design with the most remarkable gem-setting techniques. This Classic Fusion, embellished with baguette-cut diamonds and enhanced with sleek lines of white gold, has become a true Hublot icon. An exceptional accolade for a timeless watch.
The highest form of sophistication is simplicity, so Hublot has chosen to go back to basics and to the very shape that epitomised its creation in 1980. The result is now one that offers an acclaimed expression of high jewellery, accentuating the timeless purity of the Classic Fusion model. What a stunning piece! Master gem-setters have brought this new Classic Fusion High Jewellery 2023 to life with no fewer than 431 baguette-cut diamonds—around 14.6 carats in total. These gemstones adorn the watch’s case, bezel, dial and clasp. On the dial alone, it took 120 hours of painstaking, meticulous work to set the 241 baguette-cut diamonds. That’s almost three weeks of full-time work! Then came the task of setting the 60 additional diamonds around the bezel.
The 42-mm case is set with 94 baguette-cut diamonds and contains the HUB1710 calibre, which is visible from the back of the watch through the sapphire glass. The self-winding movement oscillates at a frequency of 4 Hz (or 28,800 alterations per hour), offering a power reserve of no fewer than 50 hours.
Of course, watchmaking of this quality must be perfect in every detail: even the black rubber-lined alligator strap features a deployant buckle adorned with 36 baguette-cut diamonds.
All in all, it takes over 200 hours to set all the 431 diamonds that grace this exceptional piece of high jewellery, the perfect fusion of watchmaking excellence and jewellery artisanship.
“This wonderfully radiant piece celebrates and icon of the maison. The jeweller’s artistic creativity and our watchmaking expertise intertwine to create a work of art that is both a watch and a jewel!” – RICARDO GUADALUPE, HUBLOT CEO

Blue like the vast night sky and all the stars and aspirations it holds. ZENITH is now adding its signature colour to the dial of its most popular modern El Primero chronograph, the Chronomaster Sport. More than just a dial change however, the newest version of the Chronomaster Sport also takes a page from the “DeLuca” and “Rainbow” references of the 1980s and 1990s with a blue dial and polished steel bezel.
Winner of the 2021 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève “Chronograph” prize, the Chronomaster Sport is the culmination of ZENITH’s unrivaled legacy in crafting automatic high-frequency chronographs. Pushing the boundaries of high-frequency precision, it features a 1/10th of a second chronograph function, with the elapsed time graduated over 10 seconds on the bezel. Sporty, contemporary and unmistakably a ZENITH El Primero, the Chronomaster Sport now comes in an all-steel exterior with a striking blue tricolour dial.
Featuring elements inspired by the most emblematic El Primero references and even ZENITH chronograph references produced before the calibre’s introduction in 1969, the Chronomaster Sport with blue dial heavily draws inspiration from two particular El Primero references: the “DeLuca” from the late 1980s and the “Rainbow” of the early 1990s. For the first time in the Chronomaster Sport steel core collection, the engraved 1/10 th of a second bezel on top of the 41mm steel case with pump-style pushers is crafted in stainless steel instead of ceramic. With its polished surface and black filled engraved markers, it takes on a decidedly retro look, recalling those older El Primero models. The three-link steel bracelet with adjustable clasp completes the sporty-chic look.
Metallic blue with a sunburst finish, the dial of the newest Chronomaster Sport masterfully blends contrasts, textures and depths. And yet, it is not out of historical context. Both the DeLuca and Rainbow were made with blue dial options. One of the most iconic El Primero design features – the tricolour dial – is highlighted in a new context. The chronograph counters in shades of grey and blue are as outstanding as ever, with a difference in tone and finish between the blue counter and the blue dial. The date wheel has also been matched to the dial.
The latest in a long line of ZENITH chronographs that have raised the bars of performance and precision, the Chronomaster Sport is equipped with the latest version of the El Primero calibre, dubbed the El Primero 3600. With its high frequency of 5 Hz (36’000 VpH), the movement offers a true 1/10th of second indication. Its autonomy has also been rendered more efficient, with an extended power reserve of 60 hours. The sapphire display back provides an unobstructed view of the movement’s contemporary, architecture features a sleeker and more open design, revealing a blue column wheel and open rotor marked with the five-pointed star Zenith.
The Chronomaster Sport in steel with blue dial joins the core collection and is available at ZENITH boutiques as well as authorized ZENITH retailers around the world.

In 2013, Girard-Perregaux released the Constant Escapement L.M. to critical acclaim and won the ‘Aiguille D’Or’ at the GPHG (Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève) in the same year. The model included a constant force escapement, a mechanism that delivered remarkable rate stability irrespective of the available energy.
The Neo Constant Escapement is the latest evolution of the Maison’s groundbreaking approach to master energy, incorporating an array of aesthetic and technical advancements. While it took 250 years to develop the Swiss lever escapement, Girard-Perregaux perfected its Constant Escapement in just 20 years, a testament to its inventive spirit. Moreover, this new timepiece upholds Constant Girard’s original idea of showcasing the beauty of functional elements, but expressed in a contemporary way.
A new expression of fine watchmaking
The Neo Constant Escapement wholeheartedly embraces avant-garde styling, forgoing a conventional dial in order to reveal an array of components usually hidden from view. On one hand, this latest addition to the Bridges collection is ultra-modern while on the other hand it is inspired by a prize-wining pocket watch created by Constant Girard in 1867. This won a first-class prize at the Neuchâtel Observatory in the same year and its precision remained unequalled for 17 years. Moreover, this watch, subsequently housed in gold, won a gold medal at the Universal exhibition in Paris. Constant’s pocket watch famously transformed three bridges from being merely functional components into artistic elements, a design philosophy that has also been applied to the Neo Constant Escapement.
Building on the success of the Constant Escapement L.M
After several years of research, Girard-Perregaux unveiled a concept watch in 2008 that incorporated a unique silicium blade. This know-how was perfected over the years and a production version of the watch, the Constant Escapement L.M., was released in 2013. It won the prestigious prize ‘Aiguille D’Or’ at the GPHG (Grand Prix d’Horologerie de Genève) in the same year.
The Neo Constant Escapement is an evolution of this former model, incorporating several new technologies. Indeed, 30% of the patents employed on this latest model, 13 in total, are new. The new movement features fewer components than the 2013 model (266 compared with 280 parts previously), a clear example of optimisation over complexity.
Constant force
A problem that afflicts most watches is that when fully wound the force from the spring barrel, ultimately serving the regulating organ, is excessive. This potentially impairs precision and can cause harm to the movement. Conversely, as the energy within the barrel diminishes, prior to the point of total exhaustion, the regulating organ receives insufficient force that again impairs precision.
The Constant Escapement addresses such problems, providing a uniform supply of force to the regulating organ and, by default, extraordinary rate stability. Moreover, the watch is a certified chronometer (COSC), providing independent assurance of its timekeeping prowess. This is reminiscent of when the Manufacture submitted its pocket watches for chronometer testing in the 1860s and won the Neuchâtel Observatory Centenary Prize.
Product highlights
The Neo Constant Escapement proffers an array of features and attributes:
The escapement, the mechanism that controls the flow of time, is a unique design based on the elastic and bi-stable properties of a buckling silicium blade. This component delivers a linear supply of force to the balance irrespective of the available energy within the twin barrels.
The silicium escapement spring, with an ultra-fine buckling blade at its centre, is made in a laboratory setting using a technique called ‘photolithography’. This elaborate process has allowed Girard-Perregaux to create intricately shaped components not achievable using traditional milling or stamping techniques. In this instance, Girard-Perregaux has exploited the high elasticity of silicium, the only material that allows the blade to repeatedly buckle and, in so doing, serve the balance with a constant force.
The escapement spring is 120 microns thick, while the blade is a mere 14 microns wide. By comparison, a human hair is typically 50 – 90 microns in thickness.
The ultra-fine silicium blade buckles back and forth, serving the regulating organ with a uniform pulse of energy. The silicium escape spring, with its buckling blade positioned centre stage, is formed of a single piece of silicium. Beyond its functional role, this component is instantly recognisable and its symmetrical appearance resonates with Girard-Perregaux, a Maison synonymous with the Laureato’s octagonal shaped bezel and the legendary Bridges.
The Neo Constant Escapement is a certified chronometer (COSC).
The movement, the Calibre GP09200, has a linear power supply of at least 7 days, courtesy of twin barrels.
The model is housed in a 45mm case formed of Grade 5 titanium.
The dial sits beneath a sapphire crystal ‘box’, a feature that invites light to flood the display while granting lateral views of various dial elements.
Skeletonised dauphine-style hour and minute hands, featuring rhodium treatment, articulate the prevailing time and, courtesy of luminescent material, remain visible in restricted light.
A black track, positioned on the flange, is endowed with white markings and incorporates prominent, luminescent hour markers that arc outwards, seemingly floating above the main dial area.
The Neo Constant Escapement is fitted with a fabric effect rubber strap secured with a titanium triple folding buckle incorporating a micro adjustment system, allowing the wearer to fine-tune the strap for the optimum wrist fit.
The relentless quest for advancement
The Neo Constant Escapement incorporates numerous examples of the Maison’s inventive spirit, manifest with the model’s 13 patents. It incorporates fine materials, neoteric styling and ultra-refined finishing, inspired by Haute Horlogerie. The watch goes on sale in January 2024 and will be available worldwide in all authorised Girard-Perregaux retailers. However, by virtue of its protracted creation, the Neo Constant Escapement will be produced in limited quantities, conferring a notable degree of exclusivity.

A separate technical bulletin is available which provides more detailed information relating to the Neo Constant Escapement encompassing its inspiration, constant force mechanisms, the manufacturing of the silicon blade and further discussion about the design of the watch.

About Girard-Perregaux
Since 1791, Girard-Perregaux has been embracing the rhythm of ever-elusive time. Cradled in the Jura mountains in the heart of La Chaux-de-Fonds, it is a pioneer in the world of Haute Horlogerie: an independent Manufacture which has retained this status for over two centuries, successfully keeping all production in-house and passing down exceptional horological skills throughout the generations. The preservation of this savoir-faire, along with a sincere passion for beauty and for the art itself, has remained the key to Girard-Perregaux’s ability to continuously innovate.
Always seeking the perfect balance of beauty and functionality, fans of fine watchmaking will instantly recognise the house signatures, such as the iconic octagonal bezel of the Laureato and the legendary Tourbillon with ‘Three Gold Bridges’. From seeking to create industry references in timepieces to making the invisible visible through the art of precision engineering, Girard-Perregaux never ceases to change the course of time via pieces that are the first of their kind. This place at the vanguard of horological innovation is solidified by over one hundred recorded patents for original designs, like the movement of three arrow-shaped bridges, registered in the USA in 1884, as well as prizes like the ’Aiguille d’Or’ in 2013 and distinctions like the Gold Medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1889.
Rooted in its heritage, Girard-Perregaux is driven by the instinct to always look ahead, embracing new technologies, utilising state-of-the-art materials, and finding inventive ways to bring joy by reimagining iconic shapes. To this end, Girard-Perregaux has remained a human-sized Manufacture, and in 2022 became part of an independent collective of Haute Horlogerie Manufactures alongside sister Maison Ulysse Nardin.

About Carl F. Bucherer
Carl F. Bucherer has been crafting watches since 1888 and is internationally renowned for its quality, innovation and pioneering spirit. CFB is one of only a few remaining independent and founding family-owned Swiss watch manufacturers – it is now led by third-generation family member Jörg G. Bucherer. The brand’s watches continue to evolve, combining contemporary style and advanced materials with the utmost precision and outstanding functionality.
Every timepiece produced is conceptualized, developed and hand-assembled in its own facilities in Switzerland – with many watches powered by CFB’s own movements, all designed and built entirely in-house. The brand is also the market leader in peripheral technology, having patented not only a peripheral winding system but a ‘floating tourbillon’ in a peripherally supported cage and a peripherally guided minute repeater regulator.
Since the very start, CFB has adopted an international mindset and a forward-looking attitude, exploring time through the perspectives of watch aficionados everywhere. Today, it showcases its expertise, refined over generations, with a major retail presence spanning four continents. This global network continually reminds the world what remains so special about the craft of Swiss watchmaking.
