Dakar 2024: Rebellion Timepieces reveals limited edition series

A tribute to endurance: Timekeeping crafted for the extreme

As the event’s Official Timekeeper since 2019, Rebellion Timepieces accompanies the competitors in the world’s most prestigious endurance race from start to finish. And, just like in previous editions, one-of-a-kind limited series are showcased a few hours before the 46th Dakar kicks off.

With 7,891 km of gravel-filled tracks and tons of sandy dunes, 778 drivers all categories combined, a 48-hour monster-marathon “chrono stage”… it goes without saying, the 46th Dakar programme lives up to its word! When it comes to hitting the finish line, riders will need to give it their all. From 5 to 19 January 2024, from AlUla, through Riyadh, then back to Yanbu, Rebellion Timepieces will be hellbent on recording their performances as they speed along dusty Saudi Arabian dirt-tracks and roads. As the legendary rally-raid’s Official Timekeeper for the 6th year in a row, the Swiss brand will be putting its expertise to work for the greatest adrenaline-boosting competition ever. At the end of the 12 stages, the winners will be presented with exclusive commemorative watches. For this Dakar edition, two unparalleled creations, in the shape of limited series boasting just 15 pieces, are powerfully infused with the Dakar spirit.

The Predator Chrono Dakar 2024

Incomparable, ambitious, uncompromising… in a nutshell, Rebellion-created watches with motorsport get-up-and-go! First up, the Predator Chrono Dakar 2024 conjures up the Rebel watchmakers’ undying passion for the Dakar. This piece spotlights the perfect high-tech and stylistic fusion of the race and cutting-edge watchmaking. Its exquisitely-sophisticated black DLC-dressed dial invites to take to the wheel and sprint off to adventure. Time data’s ever-so easy to read in this model’s openworked scenescape. Warm, sunny nuances echoing sandy desert hues stand out on the honeycomb-mesh design. The chronograph counters and sequential small seconds set off with dashes of red breathe life into a dynamic scenography where each component plays a leading role. The Super-LumiNova®-topped golden hands and markers heighten wearer-friendliness of the watch, imagined like a can’t-do-without instrument in the cockpit of a Dakar racer.

Carbon fibre, the must-of-all-musts in developing and fine-tuning high-performance sports prototypes cut out to conquer, flaunts first-class mechanical properties, trumps for watchmaking: lightness and incredible hardness. This multi-layer, resin-coated fabric is also armed with a weight/resistance ratio beyond compare. What’s more, this composite material, 75% lighter than steel and 10 times more resistant, accentuates a watch’s character with its highly-original striated pattern that brings out impressive design. Thanks to all its assets, carbon has become Rebellion Timepieces’ high-tech and stylistic signature by diffusing no-compromise creation into its masterpieces.

As such, the Predator Chrono Dakar 2024 dazzles with superlative manufacturing quality, centre staged through its sculptural 48 mm-diameter case, waterproof to depths of 50 metres, protected by a bezel also crafted in carbon. This state-of-the-art material’s random pattern exalts the watch’s exclusive identity. And, to underpin its sporty look even more, this edition comes complete with a Cordura® textile strap whose colour matches the tones that fashion Dakar’s desert panoramas.

All the time data, including the date, is accurately driven by a Swiss Made calibre. This self-winding movement delivers a power reserve of 48 hours when the timepiece isn’t being worn. The honeycomb-forged, twirling and whirling oscillating weight catches the eye through the iconic Dakar logo-decorated sapphire-crystal caseback.

This same vibrant colour graces the stylized markers, the date aperture and the trio of hour, minute and second hands, as well as the minute tracker running round the flange. Rebellion, when the race is the name of the game

For the 5th year in a row, the Rebel spirit hits the Dakar starting blocks with two Toyota Hilux T1+ flying high Rebellion Racing and its partners’ colours. Building on their experience gained edition after edition, two duos, aka Alexandre Pesci and Stephan Kuhni (#251), and Romain Dumas and Max Delfino (#231), once again intend to disrupt the long-held classification. Burning up the 46th Dakar tracks with passion isn’t an option.

Test-tube Time – Rebellion

Rebellion has done it yet again.

If glass tubes excite you here is what is going to blow your mind. The Weap-One biaxial Tourbillon is an ingenious creation that embeds the flying tourbillon in a neat package that turns out to be a wristwatch in a slender 25 mm diameter and 53 mm long sapphire and titanium case.

The tourbillion gyrates as if suspended on two axis while its flying tourbillion function negates the effects of gravity and manages to look splendid at the same time.

Once the mechanism is wound you have 50 hours of power reserve. Without distorting the cylindrical shape two flat titanium crowns are perfectly integrated, the left-hand one is dedicated to setting the time and the right-hand one to winding the calibre.

Two rollers at the two ends display the hours and minutes with the numerals coloured by Super-Luminova®.

The back of the watch is flat for that comfortable fit on the wrist. But overall, this looks like a vial of time on your hands.

T-500 Ultimate Racing Machine

With the T-500, performance enters a new dimension. It takes the form of a watch with an audacious design and uncompromising mechanics.

In 2010, with the T-1000 watch, Rebellion Timepieces shook up the codes and conventions of traditional watchmaking and at the same time signs its first achievement. Its sculptural titanium case (46.7×46.9×19.5mm), born under the inspired pencil of Eric Giroud, integrates a revolutionary manual winding movement. The caliber with double inclined balance has a record power reserve of 1,000 hours! Six barrels are powered in parallel via a central transmission shaft driving two chains, and discharge in series to provide linear power to the regulator. The hours and minutes are displayed in a new way using two rollers.

Rebellion Timepieces proves its ability to innovate with the T-500. Its direct affiliation with the T-1000 is unmistakable: a case with an original and stylish architecture is associated with a high-performance caliber with 450 hours of power reserve!

Under the curved sapphire crystal, an impressive mechanical display is revealed. The movement, designed by Concepto as a kinetic sculpture, adopts the same architecture as the T-1000 with its inclined balance. Assembled with 380 parts, this vertical movement, still hand-wound, is composed of six barrels that are recharged with energy using a lever. Each of them is decorated with a tire engraving that evokes the strong link between Rebellion Timepieces and motor racing. The hours and minutes are still displayed on parallel rollers.

In addition to its long autonomy, the caliber also gains in precision compared to the T-1000 thanks to the frequency of its balance which increases to 28,800 vibrations per hour.

The eloxed movement covers come in a choice of five colors: blue, red, green, orange and black. Their presence enhances the design of the rectangular case, in titanium or black DLC titanium, topped with a round sapphire crystal. For a comfortable wear, the T-500 comes with a leather or rubber strap closed by a folding clasp.

20 Days to Watches and Wonders 2022

The moment journalists, retailers and clients of the 38 exhibiting Maisons have been waiting for… Watches and Wonders Geneva will finally open its doors on 30 March 2022, for a week filled with exciting discoveries. A vast digital system has been set up to allow invited guests and the general public to follow online either live or via replay all the action of the Salon, which is already shaping up to be THE watch industry event of the year.

While the press, retailers and guests invited to the Salon can already plan their personalized program on the watchesandwonders.com platform, in Geneva the excitement is reaching a fever pitch. The set-up of the different exhibition areas is already underway to ensure that visitors can be welcomed while respecting health measures. In the surrounding manufactures and ateliers, the watchmakers are putting the final details to the new watches and jewelry collections that will be unveiled by the Maisons on March 30.

For its first physical event under the name Watches and Wonders Geneva – since last year’s event was entirely digital – the Salon will focus on major launches, previews, exceptional pieces and numerous new wonders. Aside from being featured in the Touch & Feel sessions, products will also be at the heart of discussions over many organized events, such as the Morning Show, the panel discussions and the innovative projects unveiled in the LAB.

Broadcast live from the Salon every morning at 8 am CET on the watchesandwonders.com platform and on its YouTube channel, The Morning Show will be presented this year by Olivia Chang, a renowned business journalist. She will host this first morning program with cross conversations between brand leaders and industry experts to follow the news of the Salon and decipher new trends. She will be back again at 7 pm CET on the Late Show, a new rendez-vous that will review the day’s highlights. Also broadcast live and in replay, the program will feature a different guest each day, who will be invited to share his or her favorites from the Salon. The Late Show will also offer a summary of the keynotes from the Maisons held in the Auditorium, along with highlights of the exceptional pieces being unveiled by the 38 exhibiting brands.

A daily 45-minute panel discussion, hosted by watchmaking experts and other influential personalities, will explore the issue of sustainable development in greater depth. This theme, a particularly hot topic at the moment, will be addressed from different angles, such as transparency, responsible sourcing, innovation and the circular economy. Broadcast live from the Salon at 1 pm CET on the watchesandwonders.com platform and on its YouTube channel, the program will also be available in replay.

Located in the center of the Salon, facing the Carré des Horlogers, the LAB has been designed as an ideas laboratory. This space, showcasing nearly 15 projects, will present the technological and digital innovations of the exhibiting Maisons. Highlighting eco- responsible sourcing practices, upcycling, the use of new materials, new energy sources and strategic partnerships with sustainable associations and organizations, the various initiatives will enable visitors to discover all these innovations and gain a better understanding of NFTs (Non-Fungible Token) and the world of metaverse.

Watches and Culture will also curate the ‘Time Design’ exhibition dedicated to the evolution of wristwatch design through the ages. Imagined as a journey through watchmaking creativity and illustrated by more than 100 timepieces presented in showcases designed by students of ECAL (École d’art de Lausanne), the event will also pay tribute to the work of Mr. Gérald Genta. Five pieces produced by students of the HEAD art & design school in Geneva will invite visitors to question the display of time, while an augmented reality experience will immerse the viewer in the history of a few watchmaking icons.

A broadcasting area consisting of two fully equipped studios will be available for the Maisons who wish to stay in touch with those journalists who are unable to travel to Geneva. In addition, booths equipped with a VISIODOME, a system that proved its worth last year as an optimized way of presenting products remotely, will allow the Maisons to share their latest creations with a larger audience.

Everyone is working hard to make this long-awaited edition the greatest watchmaking summit ever held in Geneva! Just 30 days to go before discovering new watches and jewelry releases, previews, major announcements, exceptional pieces and other innovations.

No compromises: Rebellion Timepieces joins Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN

Hinwil, 17 February 2022 – Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN’s quest for performance will be aided by its new partnership with Rebellion Timepieces. The Swiss luxury watch brand, with its bold designs and no-compromises approach to quality, is no stranger to racing, with motorsport being at the heart of its mission – an integral part of its DNA. Nowhere more than in motorsport, where beating the clock is a competitor’s raison d’être, precision in timekeeping is crucial.

Rebellion Timepieces’ mission continues to be, since the day of its inception, one that puts the accent on quality, independence and passion – values that also animate Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN. Both brands embody Swiss precision, turning human expertise into mechanical wonders that offer extraordinary performance at the highest level – whether in a timepiece’s movements or on a racing track. Proudly independent, both Rebellion Timepieces and Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN express their individuality as they work to challenge the status quo in their worlds.

The deal between Rebellion Timepieces and Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN will see the Swiss watchmaker’s branding appear on the team’s C42 cars, as well as on the suits of drivers, Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu, and other team assets. Frédéric Vasseur, Team Principal of Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN: “We are delighted to welcome Rebellion Timepieces to the Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN family.

Rebellion is a brand steeped in motorsport and, just like our team, one that is proudly independent: they are not afraid to go against the grain, to go where others fear and to push the boundaries of what is possible – these are all values with which we identify. Rebellion’s pursuit of excellence is not unlike our mission as we aim to beat the clock every time we head out on track.

We are excited to work with them.” Alexandre Pesci, chairman of Rebellion Corporation: “Through this partnership, Rebellion Timepieces is very happy to be associated with two prestigious players in the automotive world who share our values and passion for the motor racing : Sauber Motorsport, the historic Swiss team and Alfa Romeo F1 Team Orlen, the team that brought the first Chinese driver, Zhou Guanyu, into F1. We are happy to share this page of history with them.”

ABOUT REBELLION TIMEPIECES:

Rebellion Timepieces are born on the race track. Based in Lonay, Switzerland, on the shores of Lake Geneva, Rebellion Timepieces has made its place in the world of Swiss Haute Horlogerie. Passion, perfectionism and performance are the key values that led to the creation of the company in 2008 and that continue to guide its daily development. Sharing the same DNA as its sister company, Rebellion Racing, a racing team with a long track record of victories in endurance championships and that now competes in the Dakar Rally, all Rebellion watches are directly inspired by motorsports and each watch is created with exclusive movements and precision cases.

The company’s research and development, as well as production, is based in Switzerland, a country with very high quality standards. Since its creation and in perfect harmony with its name, Rebellion Timepieces avoids market trends, preferring to make its own way in the world of Fine Watchmaking. At the forefront of technology and material science, the brand has innovated over the years in areas such as carbon fiber, flat atomic diamond and multi-layer dials. Rebellion Timepieces is now the official timekeeper of several international competitions such as the Dakar Rally and the GT World Challenge.

ABOUT SAUBER GROUP OF COMPANIES:

For more than 50 years, the innovative Swiss company has been setting standards in the design, development and construction of race cars for various championship series, such as Formula One, DTM, and WEC. Following its own Formula One debut in 1993, Sauber Motorsport AG has established one of the few traditional and privately held teams in the sport.

The company launched a long-term partnership with Alfa Romeo in 2018 and, as it celebrates 30 years of competition in Formula One, it enters the 2022 championship under the team name Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN.
