The French high watchmaking Manufacture Pequignet launches its Attitude hallmark viper’s head model, certified chronometer.
This watch is the first in the Attitude collection to receive the “hallmark viper’s head” certification, awarded by the prestigious Besançon Observatory. This distinction recognizes precision and reliability in watchmaking. Released in a limited series of 50 pieces, this remarkable new watch features an elegant and refined opaline dial.
FRENCH CHRONOMETER CERTIFICATION!
Precision enthusiasts are well acquainted with the Besançon Observatory, renowned for its expertise and excellence.
Established in 1897, it is the only French institution capable of certifying chronometer watches. More than just a mark of quality and precision, its hallmark validates a technical know-how close to perfection. This independent organization certifies watches in their entirety, including the movement.
The watches are examined over a period of fifteen days, in five positions and at three different temperatures. At the end of these tests, the candidates are awarded a “chronometric certification report.” Ultimately, the winners comply with the ISO 3159 standard, which defines the status of “balance-spring oscillator wristwatches.” As with the COSC, its Swiss counterpart, the deviation must remain between -4/+6 seconds per day.
The Besançon Observatory goes further by examining the entire watch: case, dial, and hands included. Comprehensive and rigorous, this certification takes into account the weight of the hands and the thermal expansion of the case. It guarantees optimal precision under real-life usage conditions.
7 criteria are evaluated:
• Average gait over 24 hours
• Average variation of gait across the 5 control positions
• Greatest variations in gait between the 5 control positions
• Difference in gait between horizontal and vertical positions
• Greatest variation in gait among the first 10 measurements
• Behavior at different temperatures (8°,23°,38°)
• Recovery of gait
Watches that meet these criteria receive the prestigious title of “chronometer” awarded by the Besançon Observatory. They are quite rare in the watchmaking landscape.

Great attention has been paid to the finishing touches of the Attitude, particularly its superb openworked relief oscillating mass, visible on the back of the watch. This model is equipped with a brown alligator strap.
THE “HALLMARK VIPER’S HEAD” A TRUE RECOGNITION FOR THE CALIBRE INITIAL®
Launched in 2021, the Attitude collection is powered by the Calibre Initial®, the third exceptional movement entirely designed and developed by the Manufacture in its workshops in Morteau. The Calibre Initial® has two international patents, notably for its instant date change system and its
winding mechanism. It features a central sweeping second hand and boasts a power reserve of 65 hours.
The unique tooth profile of its winding gear improves efficiency and reduces wear on its components. Its new patented date training system allows for the performance of the date disc’s passing time and enables adjustment regardless of the position of the hands. It is entirely made from components produced within an 80 km radius of Morteau and is 72% of French origin.
