In 2016, LAURENT FERRIER unveiled a demonstration of its expertise in artistic crafts and visual balance with the Galet Traveller Globe Night Blue, featuring its first interpretation of our Earth by night. Today, to mark the brand’s 15th anniversary, Laurent has chosen to give a second life to this emblematic piece. The Classic Traveller Globe Night Blue now features a brand-new enamel dial.
A REIMAGINED DIAL
The 2016 edition was distinguished by an engraved white gold dial, where the oceans were adorned with translucent blue enamel, and the continents subtly enhanced with gold glitter. In 2025, engraving gives way to the art of miniature painting, with the continents cloaked in opaque blue enamel, elevated by more intense specks of enamelled gold, lending the whole piece a more refined and minimalist aesthetic.
The centre of the dial is adorned with a convex planisphere depicting the five continents in white gold, covered with blue enamel, and surrounded by a sea rendered in deep blue enamel. Crafted using the age-old champlevé technique, the main challenge lies in executing this enamelling on a three-dimensional surface. The centre of the dial, made out of gold, is convex in shape, allowing for the reproduction of the Earth’s globe and enhancing the central motif – the five continents. The world’s city lights as seen from space at night are hand-painted with touches of enamelled gold, enhancing the contrast with the darker oceans. In addition to exceptional craftsmanship, more than five different firing stages are required to complete this central part of the dial.
Hand-finished with a circular satin-brushed surface, the outer ring or hour circle in slate grey creates the impression of plunging towards the central sphere, accentuating the illusion of a raised globe, seemingly hovering above the dial. The three-dimensional aspect of the dial is further enhanced by the drop-shaped indices, whose tips extend beyond the circle, appearing to be suspended above the globe.
AN AESTHETIC DESIGNED TO ENHANCE LEGIBILITY
The Classic Traveller Globe Night Blue has been developed to combine practicality with the refined balance and aesthetic harmony of the timepiece, ensuring clarity and performance in all circumstances. As a contemporary timepiece designed for globetrotters, it offers a distinctive interpretation of the dual time zone function.
Discreetly integrated on the left side of the case, two perfectly symmetrical oblong pushers allow the local time, displayed by the central hour hand, to be adjusted. When changing time zones, this central hour hand can be moved forwards or backwards in one-hour increments with a simple press. The upper pusher advances the hand by one hour, while the lower pusher moves it back — without altering the position of the minute hand.
Beyond the quick adjustment of local time, the date displayed in the aperture at 3 o’clock automatically changes at midnight, adapting to different time zones without requiring any further intervention. The aperture at 9 o’clock retains the reference time (home time). Additionally, with its 24-hour display, the day and night distinction is instantly clear.
A HIGHLY RELIABLE MOVEMENT
The Classic Traveller is powered by the LF 230.02 automatic calibre, incorporating the dual time zone mechanism and date function. It features an automatic winding system with unidirectional pawl-fitted micro-rotor, enhanced by a double direct-impulse natural escapement. This escapement delivers two direct impulses to the balance with each oscillation, ensuring excellent efficiency and an impressive 72-hour power reserve.
CLASSIC AND REFINED FINISHES
The decoration and finishing of the movement are executed in the spirit of traditional haute horlogerie, combining finesse and artisanal expertise. The sapphire case-back of the Classic Traveller Globe Night Blue offers a view of this exceptional craftsmanship. In addition to rhodium-plated Côtes de Genève decoration on the bridges and circular graining on the main plate, the movement features hand-bevelled edges and hand-polished screw heads. Similarly, the intricate hand-bevelled edges, particularly in the interior angles, exemplify the values of traditional watchmaking cherished by LAURENT FERRIER.
